70

Hi OZB'ers,

Today we have a sale on some brand new Samsung 51" Plasma TV's.

These TV's are brand new in the box with full warranty from Samsung Australia.

The specs can be found here: http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

These TV's have a resolution of 1024x768 and have 2 x HDMI Inputs. These are certainly not the same as high resolution 1080P panels but are perfect for second TV, a Mancave etc.

They are available for collection in our VIC & QLD stores or we can send them anywhere is Australia at extra cost!

Phone us on 1300 85 4441 if you have any questions or email us at [email protected]

    1024x768 no thanks.

Good for older rellies or someone, maybe. A lot of people buy TVs to keep up with the jones's (look how big my HDTV is!) and watching crap (1080p doesn't improve sitcoms and dramality TV).

      • Yup, sounds like my relies. But at least they sound excited to tell everyone their TV is full HD.

        • +1

Just don't ask them what "full HD" actually means, or try to make them stop using the RCA cables with it instead of HDMI.

Also good to put in the toilet for when you're taking a dump and have nothing else to do.

        • You have a big toilet.

        • I mean to put on the wall, not in the actual toilet!

    res? arrgghhhh!

These TV's are High Definition (1024x768)

please make it clearer that these are not the high def people are used to these days.

these are only 720p and not the usual 1080p that you would expect of "high def"

    • +2

      Not even 720p mate.

      • Not even 720p mate.

being that 1024x768 is a 4:3 resolution im assuming this was stated to hide the fact that the tv also only does 720p resolutions. afaik its what many tv's do, my ~5 year old 720p plasma does anyway. maybe im assuming to much.

    • you make a fair point - though I hope anyone with half a brain would realise that at 499 for a 51 incher - there must be something about them that is not topshelf…

      • +1

seeing a couple months ago i picked up a 55" led/lcd 1080p with 3d for $700 odd delivered to SA….. $500 odd for a 51" plasma (plasma = cheaper usually) is just about "normal" pricing for current tech tv imo, tho this is well below par these days.

      • +1

Not necessarily. Big W were selling 50" Sanyo full HD last year for $499.

    • +1

720p is still better than anything that 7, 9, or 10 show, which are all still stuck at 576i. Even FOX HD in the USA only broadcasts at 720p.

    • +1

      High Def = 720p
      Full High Def = 1080p

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television

Technically 1024 x 768 can be defined as "high definition" according to Wikipedia, but you certainly wouldn't see it much. Wikipedia defines it as "a native resolution on many entry-level plasma displays with non-square pixels."

    • Take a look at "High-definition display resolutions" in the article.

Ahh I see you changed your post after you found it.

      • Sorry, yeah I did! ;)

        • You make a good point Gav and not everyone would understand that. I hope I have made it clearer now in the OP so there is no confusion!

at a glace 549 from the ppl at brown box was the cheapest I could find (inc delivery to Melb) - so this seems like a pretty good price to me…

  • +2

    Awesome! 51" dedicated atari monitor!

  • I'd probably wait for a better deal. Like the LG 1080P 50" Plasma for $500

  • Was excited and thought tcc was trying to price beat bbb 51" fhd 3d smart plasma. Ok, it is just a hd plasma for $150 cheaper than a fhd 3d smart plasma.
Edit: extra for delivery from tcc compared to free delivery from bbb.

  • Perfect for:

    Kids room
    Holiday House
    House Boat

    …anyone who watches FOXTEL!

I know its not Full HD but it is a big TV at a good price from Samsung. I thought it was better value for monet but again I have been OZB'ed :)

    • +1

Huh?! A 51" TV for a kids room? When I was a "kid" I didn't even have a TV in my room at all, and when I was a teenager I had a 51cm TV. That's cm, not inches… that's around 20 inches.

      • +1

        That's cm, not inches…

        That's what he said

      • What did a 51cm cost back in your day

        • +1

          $1600.

    • +1

I thought it was better value for monet but again I have been OZB'ed :)

i wonder if you realise yet that if you had have just been more honest in your description (about the res of this tv) most (if not all) of the negative comments/debate would never have happened?

  • Sorry meant kids "play" room :)

  • -1

    How about antique or souvenir?

  • +1

The price is ok for the unit but there is no way I would buy anything less than a full HD TV these days. My recommendation would be save up a little longer and get a better TV.

  • +2

This it not so good for kid's room application. And it also not so good for set up a TV in kid's room, bed for their health!

  • Apparantly for plasmas until you hit 55 inches at normal viewing distance you can't tell the difference between HD and full hd , don't know though, I like the idea of full HD still… doesn't really make a difference to TV DVDs etc though…

    • Apparantly for plasmas until you hit 55 inches at normal viewing distance you can't tell the difference between HD and full hd

Have you ever check out the Full HD Panasonic Plasmas? So much better.
