bought a fuel injector cleaner 250ml at autobarn for $10.
This one is 350ml at $2. Great deal

    • it turns out a bottle of this cleaner only treats up to 80 litres of petrol.
the $10 one treats 250 litres of petrol

    You know what I mean

  • +1

Is it in a catalog or is it store specific

  • +6

Always wondered if these actually do anything useful (apart from letting me feel like I'm giving my car a Schmacko…)

    • +4

      Snake oil

    • More value to use vpower every now and then if your car hasn't been using it.

at $2 that's a litre of vpower there.

  • Interesting, it's been happening every x months AutoBarn had this special.
I bought few in the past few years.

  • +1

    its mainly ethanol.
ABout all it does is blend with water better better than petrol.

SO yeah once in a while it can help get moisture out of your tank. But it'll be shit untill AFTER that tank, because you're burning any crud its loosening.

all in all, mainly snake oil.

The only addative that does things is LiquiMoly Mos2, and Nulon Octane Booster. Research the addatives for more info :D

    but its STILL a bargain

    • I beg to differ. I've tried Nulon, STP, and valvoline, all snake oils. The only one that works is SEA FOAM. Try it yourself!

      • How did you managed to get some seafoam here?

        • I was lucky I found one seller sells this on ebay. But I don't think he has many left

        • subaru sell equivalent stuff for use in servicing their boxer engines (but not cheap)

I must say I remember reading an article from the american society of automotive engineers… over 15 years ago on this very topic.
Basically all the ones tested at that time were snake oil. They concluded, after testing, that to effectively clean injectors they had to be removed from the engine and cleaned in a injector cleaning machine that passed concentrated solvents under high pressure to dissolve and dislodge gum and dirt.
This kinda makes sense if you think about it, whereas these additives are extremely diluted into a full tank of petrol, I can't see any of them been effective.
You must also consider the fine in built filter on top of injectors trapping particles from ever reaching the injector nozzle. No solvent is ever going to remove. The only way to remove these is mechanically, ie ultrasonic cleaners.
I know I am referencing an old article and it is from memory, but I feel it is still applies today.

  • Hi
Does anyone have any experience of this V-Power unleaded? Does it do any good? i.e any noticeable performance
improvements etc or is it a waste of money? Thinking about trying it for my bomb of a car that currently resides in Gods waiting room.
    Any responses greatly appreciated. Cheers

  • not required if you use 95+ octane in your car.

  • You get more
Kms using 98 octane. And wen though it's more $$$ you actually save money based on price per kilometers travelled.
Source: I think it was ACA or TT

    • +1

ACA and TT are not valid sources.

Whether or not you get better mileage using higher octane fuel is dependent on the car. Some cars will get more mileage, some won't.

The best way to know is to just try two full tanks of higher octane fuel and see if your mileage improves. Try two tanks, because the first "full" tank of higher octane fuel will actually be mixed with the left over lower octane fuel that's in the tank. If you end up with better mileage, then yay. If not then don't waste your money on higher octane fuel, because your engine was not built to utilise it

I use Caltex premium 98 on a V6. Last time I had to fill with the E10 as the station ran out of the high octane stuff. The trip computer is showing worse economy than previous refills by 20-25%. Can't wait to get the %$^&% out…

  • Complete car newb.

I use unleaded 98 on a automatic. What do i use this for xd?

edit; dw im going to google it.

  • +1

A fuel injection cutoff and chrome plated rods oh yeah!!
I'll get the money! I'll kill to get the money!!!

  • Thanks guys - interesting point about the fuel economy. The car is slowly dying so I might give this fuel
a shot and see how we go. My car decided today to blast the horn every time I turned right! OMG LOL etc…
If you're in front of me tomorrow, please don't get angry! - I have a heart condition you see…

so, will this help reduce my fg xr6 turbos fuel economy of 15L/100km ?

  • +1

Yet another sub $5 bargain from the tightarse.

    Nice work!

  • When does the sale start?

  • +1

It's already been mentioned, but seafoam and subaru upper engine cleaner - both are pretty powerful.

If you want "the best" to put in your fuel tank though, go to your local Caltex petrol station (the larger ones, not the caltex/woolies caltex/safeway), and buy a bottle of Caltex Techron 5000. It's about $15, and treats a 50L tank.

I've got a Commodore with 300,000km's on the clock…. which has a 70L tank. I filled the tank and put in two bottles of Techron 5000. Then, I gave it an italian tune-up and within around 50km's I noticed a nice improvement in my engine (unlike the typical injector cleaners which doesn't seem to make any improvement).

    • +1

what's an "italian tune-up", revving it like crazy?

      • Drive and F1 like Michael Schumacher when he drove for Ferrari…

        • Yes, that's pretty much it. Or as my mechanic says… "drive it like you stole it".

Give it a good run, with some decent bursts of acceleration, with the Techron 5000 in the tank and it'll burn out the carbon a heck of a lot quicker.

Good for cleaning out the cobwebs in the engine, as the saying goes :D

    • actually, you could've just parked it somewhere where you won't be caught/fine making a nuisance… then redline (ok, maybe just under rpm-cap) it on neutral. it's going to achieve the same thing but safer. Though I admit, it's not going to be as fun..

though for most people, if they have been using crap E10/ron95 forever, that 1+ liter of vpower hit on a near empty tank will give you the same placebo 'effect' ;)

  • Great deal… much better than letting your car service centre pour it in your car and charge you $99 for it!

  • is it Aus wide special? I can not see any special on its website.

    • Rang today, special not applied in SA
