Merging cheap Telstra SIM cards to buy apps

This example is for people who want to get a 3G AFL subscription on their Ipad or similar.

Cheap AFL SUBSCRIPTION or similar

Step 1 . buy 4 cards http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/94280 ( $30 dollar sim for $10 at Woolworths )
Step 2. activate cards
Step 3. transfer all credits by calling #100# and select CreditMe2U OR use foillowing web adress to merge accounts
https://www.my.telstra.com.au/myaccount/register

You can add $10 per day at a charge of 25 cents per transfer.

Do this daily until you accumulate yout $90.

Step 4. Purchase AFL $89.99 subscription for 1 year. ( You can get 1 month for $15 )

N.B this is a good option for Telstra 3G ipads as Bigpond is unmetered

I hope this works. I did have an online chat with Telstra and have saved my transcript chat which verified the above.

  • cunning!

  • Can you please let us know when you have done this, if it worked or not.
I am keen to give it a try too!

  • I could only get 5 cards today. As my current subscription ends in May I am not certain if I will pay per month and use 3 G or pool the cards together for a 1 year subscription using home wifi ( not Telstra ) to get me through unti next year.

  • Step 2. activate cards - is there any particular plan that it needs to be activated on in order to use the CreditMe2U service or to use directly on Google Play?

  • I don't know about google play. I am going to plan to use these cards to get the AFL subscription on my ipad.

    • Can you use Telstra Money in the App store, I'd check first.

      • I believe you can only use up to $5

  • In app purchase from AFL app is all I know about. For example last year I downloaded the AFL app from itunes and then bought a $50 sim card from Telstra and used that money to pay for a 1 year subscription via an in-app purchase.

  • I used this method to try and buy the 12 month Season Pass for $89.99 - it doesn't work. There is a limit of $20 on individual purchases from the Play Store using Telstra credit. I eventually found this out after being shunted around several departments on the phone over the past week.

I had chosen the Simplicity plan so my $100 of credit was due to expire next month. Luckily they agreed to extend the expiry on my credit so I can purchase month by month.

So if you want to use Telstra Pre-Paid credit to watch live AFL on your phone then you'll need to purchase the monthly subscription ($15 / month). If the Long Life plan allows you to buy apps then this would probably be the best option.

  • I have a transcript of a telstra chat saying you can. I cant get it until Monday though as its on work computer.

  • Yeah, I spoke to several people before I spoke to someone who actually knew about the $20 limit. So it seems not many there know how it works.

  • The AFL app now only takes credit from itunes via credit card or itunes cards. I had to point out to Apple that the app itself stated that you could use sim card credit but that is no longer the case. I got an apology from Telstra and Apple and a litte something for my trouble. So this loophole is now closed.
