  • Keep up the good work!

  • Noob question. Will I be able to use this $30 onto my current pre-paid number I got with $2 sim?

    • +3

You have to activate the sim and do creditme2u

  • +4

It says $10, Save $20, 1/2 PRICE (in the catalogue)

    Maths fail…

But hooray, I only bought one last time and I missed the chance to get another.

Are these the ones you can use in the google play store?

  • +1

Been waiting for this for a while!

  • +3

Or my posts make them broke?….hahaha…..Thanks Make it so. Have a nice day

  • +3

Use these to buy Android apps (as a Telstra customer). Better than iTunes deals!

    • Can you use all $30 on apps?

      • +1

Haven't tried it myself, but I'd assume you would be able to. Obviously, any prepaid offer that provides bonus credit, eg Cap Encore: +$220 bonus credit, wouldn't be applicable apart from the raw $30 credit that the kit provides

        • When I bought the y201, it came with $10 which cannot be used for the Google play :-(

        • +1

That's because the $10 that comes with all prepaid Telstra phones are considered as BONUS credits

      • I got one last time and I have about $3 worth of credit left all I have used it for is buying android apps, so yes you can.

        • +1

Are there any instructions in the SIM starter pack for redeeming for Google Play credit?

If not, please share your step-by-step instructions?

Can you stagger multiple SIM starter pack $30 credits into one Google Play account? i.e. 14 pack of $30 = $420 credit in one Google Play account to buy expensive apps or one Nexus 4?

        • I believe the Play Store detects a Telstra sim card and gives you the choice of paying via Telstra credit or credit card

      • +5

he wasn't commenting on the breadth of apps available, he was commenting that using the credit to buy apps made the effective discount better than any XX% off iTunes cards.

        • -6

No, he said "itunes deals". Which can also refer to paid apps going free. I'm sure you've seen at least one on OzB.

Ios allows devs to have their apps go free for a while to gain momentum before reverting back to paid. You wouldn't need XX% off because they'd be free on ios.

Sure you'd only be paying 33c for a $1 app on the play store, but the very same app could have been free on iOS multiple times in the past. Not to mention updates would be quicker for some reason.

I'm not for either side, but I think it's obvious that iOS wins in terms of value hands down purely due to the mass amount of apps going free so often.

And to spn below, it's a figure of speech.

      • Why would you be sad?

As a developer for both ios and android, developing for ios is 100x ahead of android.. It's ecosystem is so much better and strong enough to make me not work a single hour for the last 3 years.

So go apple for making never to work a single hour and sleeping in all day.. (And traveling the world while passively earning money). It's literally like being on annual leave for 3 years non stop..

        • -5

Why vote this guy down? He has real life development experience whereas most of you Android clowns probably think dragging a widget on to your home-screen makes you super geeky.

        • +2

Out of curiosity, what is your app?

        • -1

plus one for that community support

    • @LolwutMikka - thank you for mentioning this! I had no idea you could now use Telstra prepaid credit to buy Android apps. I now have use for the $30 I keep accumulating each month. $360 worth of paid apps and mobile/data use/charges each year… pretty good value.

    • Pity max app value is $20, otherwise awesome!

  • +2

Awesome! I am voting just for your amazing contribution in less than a year and a half. Thanks and here is to making 500!

  • +8

Hats off to the Telstra exec getting record sales on new customers
Then 6 months later having to drop all the numbers due to no activity.

  • Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Could anyone let me know which page it is on the catalogue? I've looked through the catalogue several times, but couldn't find it, thanks.

    • +3

      page 18, bottom right

      • +2

Thanks hippocrit, I was too careless.

  • I bought one in previous deal and use it as data plan for my Nexus 7 and found it very expensive. All credit run out and about 10 days even though I just use to surf internet, I doubt whether we got 3 Gb with 30$ card or not . Anyone knoes about why I can use Bonus credit for. when I run out of main credit, the Bonus credit ($7) is shown but don't know what can I use it for

    • check the offer summary pdf. http://www.telstra.com.au/my-offer-summaries/download/docume…

      MICRO-SIM OR NANO-SIM
Your micro-SIM or nano-SIM should only be used in an approved
Apple iPad device. If you use your micro-SIM or nano-SIM in any
other device, you may be charged the standard Telstra Pre-Paid
      Mobile Broadband charges.

So if you use any other tablet rather than iPad or iPad mini, you will charged the normal rate which is ripped off. Thanks OP for sharing. but this deal is only good for iPad and iPad mini users.

      • Did you read the post? Standard, Micro and Nano available. It is not only Micro and Nano available.

        • I was responding to 'mazsupilami' about the '3 Gb with 30$' rate. That ONLY apply to iPad and iPad Mini. Regardless the sim size. For all other tablet or smart phone, you should expect 400mb per 30$.

        • thats only if telstra detects that you are not using it in an ipad. The key is to correctly activate the 3GB data plan upfront and then you can use it in any device.

      • Is this for real?

It says on that PDF that the cost per MB for a $30 recharge is 97c/MB which works out to a staggering 30.9MB !? Why do they even mention a maximum data allowance of 3GB? I must be missing something..

  • Can we use this credit to subscribe to afl live streaming on Google play store?

    • I want to know as well!

  • Congrats on your milestone, your milestone comes with a free popular deal badge. :)

  • This offer is already in BP petrol stations.

    • Can you confirm the details? Wasn't available at two BPs I went to yesterday.

  • LAST CHANCE EVER TO GO ONTO THE ENCORE PLAN BEFORE IT EXPIRES.

YOU HAVE UNTIL 28TH OF FEBRUARY.

    • +1

I had to look that up as it was the first I had heard of it.

      So I went on the Telstra site;

"You can enjoy Cap Credit, Data and Ongoing Free Talk & Text when you switch to or activate on Telstra Pre-Paid Cap Encore before 19th February 2013, for as long as you remain on this offer."

      link

      Isn't that tomorrow?

      • Oh, I could of sworn it was 28th February! Thanks!

        I got this message:

Love Encore? Free Talk&Text every night 6pm-6am on Pre-Paid Cap Encore is yours as long as you stay with us on $30+ recharge. telstra.com/recharge Optout:1800039059

Gah got beaten by 6 mins about the encore plan…shocking of me!

Does anyone know what's happening next?

      • extended untill 30 june!

    • +1

Is there any info on what their new cap offerings are going to be called? I was on the one before Encore and it was an even better deal, I was grandfathered through like it appears they are going to do again. Just curious as to what they are replacing it with.

  • And (just to spam the thread, delete it if it's inappropriate) if you need a kit to convert the size of your sim card, please feel free to grab one from me here :-)

Do these hold the micro sim in securely? the ones I bought from another seller didn't actually hold it in and I was worried it'd get stuck inside the phone.

      • They seem fairly secure to me, just tested it out with my micro sim. It's not going to fall out of it's own accord. It may pop out if forced (as there's just no room to have any kind of clipping mechanism) but it's definitely not going to fall out. I actually had to take a knife and shave my micro sim down in order for it to fit, as it still had some of the rough edges from being detached from the card it came in originally.

      • how about using a sticky tape other side? would that be thick?

        • I had thought the same thing, I can't see why it wouldn't work

      • @ Dan
        Q. Do these hold the micro sim in securely? the ones I bought from another seller didn't actually hold it in and I was worried it'd get stuck inside the phone.

        A. i bought this one (really well made - MercuryAV brand)…bit exe though @ $6.86

  • So how can Telstra tell if you are using the 3gig in a device that isn't an ipad?

    • +4

if you sleep talk and tell Telstra

    • I'm not 100% sure but I think that iThings may connect to a different APN, allowing the network to know what type of device is using it. Even if you select the 3GB plan (online or by calling), you'll find that you're automatically downgraded again once you start to use it on a non-iThing. At least that's what happened to me.

  • Congrats buddy. Thanks for all the deals.

  • Thanks for all your efforts.

  • first of all happy 400th and well done

Reading this thread has made me feel like a noob. I think I might have learnt some things but realised there is so much i don;t know so I would like some clarity on my situation please:

I have bought a fairly basic phone for my daughter so I can call her etc
I took advantage of this deal last time it was on
I chose to use the $30 credit for a long life plan (because I'd like to think that she's only going to use the phone to text me. bahahaha what an idiot!!)

    So…

    1) What kind of expiry can we expect? I imagine I can buy some now and not use it for a couple of months later
    2) when I recharge I am thinking of changing to the simplicity plan (i don't want to encourage my daughter to use the phone so much by putting her on the encore plan) because it still gives me 60, 90 or 180 days to use the credit….can I change her plan like that?
    3) can I buy one of these deals to recharge or will it be a new account?
    4) if I do a $50 recharge on the simplicity (for example) then can I either a) use one $30 card then add $20 on top, or b) use 2 of these $30 cards? If B then what happens to the extra $10 of credit?
    5) where can I find info about using these to buy android apps?

Happy if you can answer any or all of these questions. Thanks in arrears

    • +1

      Hi,
      1) Can't say for sure, but last time I got this from the Big-W deal a few months back, it had an expiry of August 2014.

      2) Yes, you can change between pre-paid plans. You can completely switch plans (e.g. Simplicity <-> Encore) 10 times a year, and while you're on Simplicity, you can control the credit expiry by recharging by the amount necessary (e.g. $30 for 60 days or $100 for 180 days.

      3) Technically, no. These are SIM card pack and will create new accounts. You could possibly ask a customer rep to do a one-off transfer of credit (I've been offered once), but I don't envisage them letting you do it constantly.

      4) Not too sure, but B) is unlikely.

      5) Not sure either, but I know for Windows Phone 8, the option to buy apps with credit is simply the default option when you are at the checkout screen.

      Hope it helps somewhat!

      • thanks.
3)I see people talk about creditme2u, i guess that this is the way to keep the same number???

But again, this is why I like the long life and the simplicity plan because I won't have to change numbers or use services like creditme2u so frequently

I think your answer to #2 is an answer to #4??? if I recharge with $30 on simplicity then add another $20 on it later then that controls the expiry (if I understand you correctly).

        Thanks again

        • For 3), just be aware credit Me2U doesn't extend your expiry date, unless you have under 14 days left, in which case it only extends your credit another 14 days.

  • -1

    Question.
Why would you get this sim? Aren't there better offers out there?
Unless you're solely getting it for the Encore deal…

    • +1

It the best deal for the light user as well, at $10 you have the following:
      1. $30 included cash value
      2. 60 days long expiry days
      3. Enjoy competitive calling and data rates by switching from long life to simplicity

      • Hmm, I feel this is only a deal if you're frequently bouncing around from different providers.
Otherwise, even as a light user, I think that Vaya's $7/month is much better value.

  • -1

Thanks Ops. Congrats on the 400th posts.

I have never been able to get these SIM packs as they are always gone by the time I get to the stores. Hopefully your early notice will help.

    • Raincheck if sold out.

      • The stores in Balmain, City & Northbridge have never accepted raincheck for Telstra SIM. How did you do it?

Anyway, it doesn't matter now as I managed to get 3 today. :)

  • To those that mentioned BP are already running this promo, can you confirm? I went to two BP service stations and they were full price.

    • +1

No, they are not running promo at BP.

      • Thanks vegemite.

  • congrats on 400 - i couldn't have left this deal to a more worthy guy :)

  • Does anyone here know if you can use these to buy the $89.99 AFL annual subscription on the ipad?

  • No you don't know, or no you can't use it for that ?

    • No,you cant use it for that.

  • Thank you for sharing

  • Just picked up one this morning!

  • Bought 2 thanks OP

  • Can you stack these together to get 90 dollars worth and then use it to buy the AFL subscription at $89.99 a season. I do not have a mobile so I am ignorant about these things. I want to get AFL on the ipad.

    • No,you cant use it for that.

  • Apparently not..told from the Telstra Shop. Unless someone knows otherwise a way of stacking these together.

  • Seems that not all stores have stock. I popped into my local Woolies at 10am and asked at the counter, and they had no stock and no idea what I was talking about ("$30 for $10? No") Had to drive to another store, but I got one.
