Pocket Wi-Fi 2 @ Crazy Johns $59

40

Been looking for a pocket wifi for a while now. Not the cheapest ever but the cheapest I can find recently. Let me know if I'm mistaken.

Yes it's a vodafone network. My plan is to use up all the data then get it unlock so I can use it overseas.

  • if you want it you might want to get it soon, I believe Crazy John's will be closing to new applications in a couple of days

  • You do realise, don't you, that in order to use the data you would have to actually be able to connect to Vodafone with it?

  • +2

We already saw "new/better" Pocket wifi Pro for $39.99. This is old tech.

    • Where? And what does the Pro do that the current one doesn't?

      • +1

The Pro version has the faster 3G speeds modes, is rated upto 21Mbps. Also has a differesnt interface and look. Was good when DSE had them for $40 a few months back.

Of course you wont get 21Mbps sprrd, but it sure is fast.

The pocket wifi 2 is being phased out, isnt it?

        • Pro will be phased out too, there is a "Pocket WiFi™ Extreme" now, but it looks like it is not yet on prepaid:

          http://shop.vodafone.com.au/broadband-details/buy-pocket-wif…

          More details"

"The Vodafone Pocket WiFi™ Extreme is a portable modem and router in one. It's compact in size and weighs just 150 grams. It includes a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 10 hours of usage. It offers convenient recharging via a plug and play USB connection. Other features include microSD capability of up to 32GB."

    • Vivid imagination…

    • viMax at least unmetered the net; whereby the LTE's wouldn't, neither soon, nor any price pt.

  • seems expensive for an oldish device locked to voda. I imagine you could pick up plenty cheaper on ebay.

At this price you'd almost be better off just buying a cheap android phone, and using its wifi hotspot feature.

Plus note that these particular devices are notoriously hard to unlock, at least they were 2 yrs ago when I looked at them. If unlocking is part of you game plan, check out if its cheaply do-able first.

    • No they are not, less than 3 bucks on eBay for a code.

But yes, this a poor value bargain, I picked up 2 from BigW when they had them at $15.80 2-3 months ago.

      • took me a few reads to understand - "no they are not" = hard to unlock

  • The good guys still have Pocket wifi pro at $49.00. Not online, saw this at their Penrith store week ago, around 5 left.
