Another Aus Post stuff up

Another Aus post stuff up.
What to do ?

Missed deliveries from Aus post to our home address usually go to any 1 of 3 nearby post offices, in suburban Melbourne. Not always to the correct one ticked on the missed parcel postcard.

The problem I have is the Mrs ordered a few things on Ebay locally from within Aus and the stupid postie has left a missed you card without the parcel number on the parcel.

The seller does not have the details of the parcel number.

I have visited the post office he has ticked on the card and visited all the others in the area too, none of them have the parcel and there is no way I can track it online because the idiot forgot to put the number on the missed delivery post card.

I could always claim a paypal / credit card refund, but don't really want to do that as it was not the sellers fault, How can the postie be held to task ? Any chance of me being able to find the missing parcel ?

Hassle Auspost some more. They must know who carded you from the rounds roster. Then they should be able to check where the parcel was returned to.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but Auspost doesn't surprise me one bit.

ask for a refund. it's the seller's role to chase up missing parcels unless you need it urgently and is willing to, because he is the poster and it's his entitlement and responsibility to get compensated by auspost

Considering it was an Aus Post stuffup, I think blaming the seller is completely unfair.

      • I agree, that's why I haven't hassled the seller, yet,

Not keeping the tracking number was a bit sloppy though :(

Maybe the seller sent you an auspost missed parcel card in the post? ;)

          the perfect crime

    Make a complaint here:

    https://contactus.auspost.com.au/app/ask/session/L3RpbWUvMTM…

Tell them exactly what has happened, they usually respond and the problem will be resolved one way or another.

    Complain immediately.

I've had trouble too. Paid to have mail redirected, but mail parcel left outside door for weeks. It even blown away and was found to the side of verandah. Also a year or so I was waiting for an item, checked tracking number and it was listed as 'carded', but we never had a card and on the day it was supposedly carded, we were home. Just didn't bother to drop off at all. Even an item delivered to wrong area. Was correctly addressed but they sent to wrong area and was waiting at a post office 15k away. I put written complaint in and service has improved? Maybe, wait and see.

Yeah same experience here, website claimed that I had been carded but I never got a card and I was home all the time. This was actually Startrack, which is a subsidiary of Auspost.

We have outstanding Auspost contractors now, but we had the 'card in the letterbox when somebody was home' previously.
We complained and the service was fixed.

Thanks for clarifying that, I was asking here to see what has worked for other people.

I have complained to Aus Post reg the exact thing you said, contractors leaving cards when someone was home, and it didn't get anywhere, they basically said the postie cannot wait to ring the bell and for you to come to the door.

So surprised it worked for you.

      • I am too. Can you clarify: Did you complain through the form that grog offered? If not what avenue did you take?

        • +1

I called the call center and complained that the postie just left a card when obviously there was someone at home.

The girl supposedly forwarded my complaint but basically said that is their usual process, they can't ring the bell and wait for everyone to come to the door.

        • WTF!

At least you get cards, I'm home usually and don't even get a card to tell me that the item they couldn't be bothered delivering may be at my local post office.

    • it's worse with things from overseas as you'll be wondering for the next 6 weeks whether your parcel is actually sitting at the post office

  • +1

I get cards all the time, the postie never attempts delivery (unless it is sign for stuff). generally they do a follow mup card a few days later if you ghaven't collected your stuff. Perhaps stick a note to your letter box, over the letter hole.

i guess I'm fortunate in that my local post office is a one person operation. The post mistress knows me. anytime I miss something she will hang on to it.

Solution is a video camera on front entrance and a sign on front gate saying 24/7 recording.
They wont dare to stuff you around with the mail then…

  • If your efforts get nowhere, then hopefully Auspost will drop off a reminder card in a few days and you can take it from there.

    • waiting for that..

  • So if I understand it properly, the item is sitting somewhere, but you can't track it because you don't have the tracking number?

Have you checked the Purchases section in eBay? They may have entered it there. If the seller uses Click and Send the tracking number automatically gets entered there

If the seller hasn't entered the tracking number in eBay, and threw away the tracking number tag/receipt, then in my opinion the seller is partly to blame. You had no control of what transpired, but the seller did have control.

    • Yes, The seller is partly to blame, No number anywhere.

I am waiting for the missed delivery card to come around the second time , hopefully this time they have a number on it.

At least you got the card though xD I normally don't get even that, and to make things worse they send the item to the depot if no ones there (it's not overly too far only about 20min drive but what's the point of paying for delivery in that case?), 100% of the time I received info on the tracker saying no one was there, someone was actually home.

They never used to ring the doorbell or leave cards until I started subscribing to the trackers with my email and sending in complaints, they knew I was watching very carefully after that.

Have you tried checking with the depot? I wouldn't put it past the driver to not know where they planned on going lol

  • Not really in the true 'ozBargain' spirit but I have a post office box for this reason: a post office box is much safer and more reliable as the item never leaves the post office.
Had a very good run since paying for one.

    • This is a reasonable sized parcel, wouldn't have fit in a post box anyway , not in the standard sized ones atleast.

      • I think he's referring to the fact that the parcel doesn't leave the post office, unlike normal home delivery.

        • They have a parcel collection window at my post office box

As a professional seller I have to say it is the sellers responsibility. They are the sender and as such are the ones who are responsible to call au post and do the foot work. If you don't receive your item soon contact the seller. If the seller doesn't reply in 48 hrs file a PayPal claim.

Don't feel bad either as the seller is warned by PayPal and what not about the importance of providing tracking and such. If they lost it that is their problem.

If any of my customers have a problem with deliveries I sort it out. Simple.

    • You can't sort out stupidity and the lack of responsibility from Aust post contractor by filing a paypal complaint,

Common sense is to let the seller know what is going on and direct your complaint to Aust post as everyone have suggested.

      • What you say is true, but I also agree with most of what Third_Gear said. It sounds as if the seller has made no effort to help the buyer. And by not reporting the tracking number to the buyer he/she has basically left the buyer with no recourse to track the goods.
When I've sold things on eBay I have always made sure the shipping has tracking (unless it's a very small cheap item), I update the tracking number in eBay's system, and I always keep the tracking number receipt until I have received positive feedback from the buyer (or until the feedback response time has passed).
If the seller advertised that the item would be shipped with tracking (or if the buyer has paid extra for tracking) then the seller has been negligent by not providing the buyer with the tracking number.
Australia Post are to blame too of course.

And with this…while I have some peoples attention. Make sure you know your address. Correct suburb and post code. You would not believe the number of people who have delivery delays because they don't get their address right. Check it in Google maps.

    • +1

I'm processing an order now and the suburb the customer gave me is:

      Brisbane, Queensland, 4170

This is my third one today I have had to check on google maps to figure out where this guy lives. So yeah - please make sure you know where you live. :)

  • If the parcel was sent via regular mail there wouldn't be any tracking details,I always for peace and mind pay a little extra and have it sent registered.

Complain to the Postal Industry Ombudsman. Enough complaints and hopefully they will do something about it!

I have lodged a paypal claim,
Hopefully it comes through, Anyone know the process ,
anything I have to do after lodging the claim ?

    Thanks,
