  • That's an awesome camera. My wife has a Nikon D3000 though, I'm assuming the bigger number means it's better…

    • Hahha, you got the wrong way around.

    • They aren't even the same brand. The 1100D and D3000 are the basic entry-level cameras for beginners.

    • Nikon D7000 is better than D3000.
      However… Nikon D300 is better than D7000.

It's a little weird but as you can see from that simple example, the bigger number doesn't mean it's better.
Also, a Canon 600D is better than a 1100D. Generally, lower the number is better in Canon's cameras.

      • Ie. D800 is a higher model compared to D90. Nikon does not follow the numbering series compared to Canon. The most consistent way to figure out which camera is better is by the size. The bigger the better.

        • Nikon D100 actually older than D90 … doh :(

      • Although a Canon 30D is worse than a Canon 60D. So confusing.

    • I say the same thing when I play golf.

It's ok. The lens included doesn't have stabilisation (non-IS, or non-VR in Nikon terms).

As a Canon shooter, I'd still recommend a Nikon D3100 w/18-55 VR over this. Full HD video, stabilised lens, etc. More expensive? Yes, but a better buy.

  • Decent price. Use the money you DON'T spend to buy a decent lens or three. Perhaps start with a cheap one like the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II for $100 or less.

As much as I dislike pimping my own deal, the K-r can be bought for a similar price and is a better camera in almost every way.

    • What's a Tampax?

  • I owned this camera before and it was alright. It has all the functions that you need and is simple to use.
It is very user-friendly, light-weight and portable.

I will comment that I upgraded out of this camera in a year of buying it simply because I pretty much love photography and enjoy taking photographs. If you already have a keen interest in taking photographs, I would possibly recommend buying a better camera.

    • What camera did you upgrade to?

      • I bet it was Canon 600D.
60D is a better one but much more expensive.

      • Haha you wouldn't guess it.

        EOS-1Ds Mk II

Family friend bought new camera (wedding photographer) and gave it to me for cheap :)

        • Sounds more like a downgrade. The newer entry level performs better than the antique 1Ds mk ii.

        • I don't think I can exactly say that for myself.

    • This one seems even cheaper..

I can't work out if that is grey stock or cabin Australia stock…. But I did spot the included shipping so I'm not sure where you got that shipping charge

    c'mon sub-$300 dslr!

  • I'm only thinking of it because my step daughter is enjoying photography at school, and her mother has the 600d. Is there any issue with swapping lens' between the two? I would assume not, but I don't want to make a $300 mistake over a false assumption.
