I returned my original one as the was screen playing up.
I also returned my original as the battery was faulty. I've heard a few manufacturing problems with the nexus 7, so I'd say that explains the number of refurbs.
A lot of them has the usb port not working properly. This manifest itself as not being able to charge unless it's shut down completely, or being able to upload stuff using USB.

It will appear not to charge nor turn on using the power button
Instead you have to Hold Power Button and Both Volume buttons for 20 seconds to show a Download Mode screen that will allow you to choose start up from the list
