What's the best Android TV stick going around at the moment?

My toddler has trashed so many HDMI cables I figured this would be cheaper in the long run. I would like to buy one of these, from within Australia if possible?

I'm not answering your question, I know, but I'm waiting on the Ouya (March for pre-orers, June for public).

It's a USD99 Android-based open-source gaming console which will also run all the usual Android (JB) stuff. XBMC will be available for it, as hopefully should the baked-in Miracast screen-sharing but that's not confirmed yet.

Nice looking controller and decent interface from the demos I've seen.

    • I saw mention of that around here, yeah, I might try and wait for it too.

    • Google Play not available, only specific apps developed for Ouya available.

  • New. Interesting addition to the Android Stick Zoo: http://www.liliputing.com/2013/02/measy-u2c-android-mini-pc-…

Now 3 months on…. so what the "BEST" & "Best Bang for Buck" right now?

    • Yesterday it was the mk808 at $24 from the DX 50% off sale or the Ditter models for about the same.
Today they are back to $45+.
There is an 809 version of the Rokkr devices but I gather it doesn't offer much different to the 808.

  • I did some digging around on this yesterday, after missing out on the DX sale. I was looking for something that works more or less out of the box, has decent WiFi and was reliable, so these are by no means the cheapest.
The two getting the best reviews are the Prohost2 ($80ish) and the Minix Neo G4 ($65ish)

Both come with remotes, which you'd have to buy separately for the cheaper ones.
I may well wait until someone has the WD TV Live on sale again, and get that instead, though, just for ease of use.

I have the mk808 along with an air mouse and a Logitech K700. I found the airmouse a bit cumbersome to use, hence the K700.
For watching movies, the device doesn't really add anything over the dumb AV player boxes, and my TV has a USB slot and supports MKV so we usually just use that.
The android is pretty good for Youtube, but how often do you want to watch Youtube vids on a TV?
The kids use it as another Minecraft client, and that is pretty cool on the big screen, but the curcor keys don't control the character, you need to click on the movement arrows as if it was a touch screen. Again, a bit cumbersome.
Other games are good for a little casual gaming and emulation.
Since it has cost me about $90 for the device, mouse and keyboard I don't think I would buy it again, for the little use it gets.
Everyone agrees it is cool though!

  • Does anyone have first hand experience with this box?

Mainly getting it for youtube/streaming but it would also be nice to be able to play 1080p smoothly over the network.
