I purchased a Verbatim 1TB external drive from Staples back in 2011, pulled out the drive and have been using it as an internal. A couple of weeks ago one of the chips on the PCB went up in flames.
I'm wondering if anyone has an identical drive they would like to sell me, so that I can try a PCB swap. You would need to check the drive's model number and PCB code. Obviously this will be easiest if you have already harvested the drive from the case, but if you haven't and are keen, feel free to do so (it's pretty easy).
