Hi Guys, (UPDATED LINK)

On the theme of Gift cards, got to thank 'aznsniper' for his post on Tandy (Woolies owned) regarding the K800i which incidentally took me to its website and I saw the banner their at bottom for this deal. There is now a direct link.

Not too bad a deal, thats a bonus $50 shopping card for making a single purchase (No set denomination) at any Woolies owned store with No Annual Fee in the first year, the rest is on the everydaymoney website, cheers

Updated the Credit Card rewards wiki, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/credit_card_rewards_compari…

It seems to fare in the middle although you would have to consistently do your grocery shopping in Woolworths/Safeway and fill your petrol at Caltex Woolworth/Safeway.

Cheers Neil, thats a great comparison tool, I don't really support credit cards but using them responsibly and with discipline can be rewarding and you can beat the big boys at their own game, cheers

  • the offer is written at tandy site only, but the link to apply or the terms and condition is not mentioning about this ! Hope they are not turning down.

Is this what we've come to - this isn't a "deal" sign on with any credit provider and they'll give you $50 (or more) in goodies.

    • +1

jason101 put your money where your mouth is and start posting, If you do your shopping at Woolies, ynot use it instead of cash and then pay it off before interest is accrued, becomes a problem when purchases are made on impulse and beyond one's means.

At the end of the day if you no-longer want it then ditch it, you still get the bonus, cheers

      • couldn't agree more nats. at the end of the day a deal is a deal… better than signing up for a CC without this sort of reward

  • Hey all im saying is any noob can walk into any bank / woolworths / credit union / myer / target / country road / harris scarfe and sign up for any number of cheesy credit cards with any number of attached freebies - this is not a special find, nor is a bargain by any sense of the word.

Sure if you want this website filled with posts about "so so" bargains give it a plus. Please note I didn't vote neg, because unless there is a scam factor I believe it discourages people from posting - but just because I don't highly praise the deal I don't think I deserve a personal attack.

I don't post on here because I don't consider any of the "bargains" I find to be noteworthy.

I mean the same with the Foxtel $50 referral posted on here nats, please dont think im having a go but Foxtel have had that since day 1 for anyone referring a friend….in fact I think it used to be more, plus both parties got the $50 - its nothing special, anything mass media promoted certainly has a place, but I had always thought this site was for niche "special" finds - Perhaps i'm wrong.

Mate your entitled to your opinion and by the way my reply to you was by no means a 'personal attack' by any stretch.

Your comment was …Is this what we’ve come to - this isn’t a “deal” sign on with any credit provider and they’ll give you $50 (or more) in goodies ..yet you still refuse to put up any (or anything at all by the looks, since you joined), your also assuming people do not find it useful, never make assumptions, there are tonnes a people outhere from all walks of life living different lives from one another, Ozbargains is a community based forum that allows each member to post their own "bargains" and each carries it's own "special" factor voted by members.

In this case you didn't find the deal attractive, ..Big deal move on, go ahead say No to $50 bucks lol cheers

      • I'm still perplexed you feel the need to critique my comment - yes lets move on.

        • don't be perplexed by any complexity ..Its all good!

    • I work for Woolies - this is a new deal and currently has an expiry date to it (however there's nothing stopping it being extended.)

You get points no matter where you shop and of course you get more at Woolies, so for that reason it's good. Later this year you'll also be able to link the credit card to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account and gain points on that.

But of course with credit cards you just have to find one that suits your needs. If you rarely shop at Woolworths owned stores, you're probably better to get another card (e.g. the NAB/Velocity card) and get rewards that you're actually going to use.

  • What about Coles Source MasterCard ? (www.source.com.au)

No annal fee at all for all card holders (including secondary others)
Get up to 4 flybuy points per $5 spend. (2500 flybuy points = $20 (use in Coles only) or exchange for items, means you spend $3125 to get $20, that is 0.64% return)
Additional 4 cents fuel voucher from the credit card (Together with Coles 4 cents voucher, it is 8 cents in total). (With $1/liter fuel, using 50 liters per week, that is 2600 liters at $2600. After discount, it is $2392)

    I still prefer BP MasterCard

Even with $79 annal fee, it has 1% return on all purchases.
    5% discount on BP petrol.

    • What about Coles Source MasterCard?

We have a Source card and it's sole purpose is to buy from Coles/Kmart to get that 4c off voucher, when we actually shop at Coles/Kmart. Less and less often now at Coles as it's just not as competitive as Aldi.

Flyer Point on the other hand is completely useless to me. I applied for it yooooonks ago when it first came out in the early 90's. I don't remember I've claimed anything from it…

      I still prefer BP MasterCard

      +1 there.

Got ~$500 cashback over the last two years — much better than any reward program (since I don't fly often).

      • I agree with you that the Source card is for the 4c. With additional 4c from the Credit card (total 8c) , it beats most of other fuel offers.

For the flybuy points, it used to be only 1 point per $5 spend. That will take ages to get 2500 points for the $20 claim. With this credit card, 4 points per $5 spend will make it easier, especially countinf with petrol use.

After all, there is no annal fee for the card and it has some kind of reward. That is $79 annal fee + $39 additional card holder fee of saving per year compare to the BP card.

  • Wow what's stopping people from signing up buying something from woolies. Getting the $50 voucher then never using the card and canceling it in like 11 months time?

    • Having cards and not using them can be bad for your credit report.

      • how?

        • Things such as late payments, bankrupcy, and unpaid debts (as in the ones debt collectors go after you) are the worst.

Having cards that you spend too little or too much (close to the limit) can be bad. Even applying for credit cards is recorded on the file. Too many might be harmful.

More info here. http://www.cclcnsw.org.au/content/view/45/61/ Probably a good time for everyone to check over the credit report.

          • @neil: That information is more important than getting a new credit card or $50 bonus. Thanks.

          • @neil: neil, you must be mistaken. credit report file will not of record for - credit card payments that were settled in full or minimum balance paid, so if you dont use the card you will not get a bill and that is same as paid the bill in full before due date.

One problem could be though, woolworths (actually hsbc) will inquire credit file and will record if they decline to issue this card, which is a bad entry on the file.

            • @mawinmawin: Hmmm..might be thinking of US credit reporting. Will have to check out my credit report.

  • WARNING: The application process requires a referral (name, address, phone number etc). I guess they call up whoever you write down and try and sell them something (or this CC)

  • Most of the credit cards have account cover insurance, policy such as Merchandise protection cover and Price protection cover. Do they have any string attached?

For instance, in the Coles Source card:

Merchandise Protection Cover: If you purchase an item for $10 or more in Australia using your card, and the item is lost, stolen or damaged in Australia within 120 days of its purchase, we will at our option:
    - pay the original purchase price
    - repair or replace the item, or
    - pay the cost of repair or replacement.
Some items such as jewellery, furs, precious metals, cash, perishable goods, 2nd hand goods, living plants animals, mobile phone, watches, cameras, vehicles, optical and medical products are not covered. (In my opinion, that still left us with computers, home appliances. But that will be covered by warranty unless it is stolen or damage not covered by warranty, such as cracked LCD)

Paid up to $1000 for each item and $4000 for each event or max $8000 for 12-months period.

Price protection cover: If you purchase an item in Australia using your card and within 24 months, the item is reduced in price by $10 or more, in the same store or in another store of the same name, we will pay the difference between the purchase price and the reduced price.
The cover also applies if you purchase the item from a mail or telephone order catalogure sent from within Australia and within 24 months, the item is reduced by $10 or more in another mail or telephone order catalogue of the same seller.

Some items such as jewellery, furs, precious metals, cash, perishable goods, 2nd hand goods, living plants animals, one-of-a-kind items, tailor made items, going out of business, closing down items, items sold as floor display discount, imperfect, 2nd hand or price matched items.

Paid up to $600 for each item. $2000 for any 12 month period.
