Looking for a Monitor for my new PC

Ok, So basically I built a PC the other day. Now I'm looking into monitors for it.

At the moment I am looking at the Dell U2412M (24" IPS)($310~ From Harris Technology) as it has good all rounder reviews for Photo Editing and Games. I know that whenever Dell deals come up people talk about other korean monitors that are basically the same but cheaper?

Do you guys have any suggestions about other monitors that would be better?
Or where i can get the Dell Cheaper? The portrait mode isn't that important for me at this point in time. (or Ever? lol)

My Video card is the Gigabyte HD 7970 OC from the other day. and can take DVI, HDMI, and two small DVI's? (i think).

16:10 ratio is prefered though am open to other ratios :D.

Thanks for your help!

  • My son just built his own computer so I asked him and he suggested the following: He was looking at Dell but decided against them because they were too expensive and their response rate was a bit high, so he bought LGIPS235-BN from PC Case Gear

If you are really set on getting a Dell screen look at this one it's a bit cheaper although unsure whether it is tilt adjustable

  • +1

DVI, HDMI, and two small DVI's? (i think).

That would be mini display port (most likely).

  • If you sit on Dell Factory outlet long enough 2412M monitors will pop up, bought one 2 weeks ago for $226.00 to my door, arrived in 36 hours from Sydney to Melbourne. This is a new monitor, not a refurb

    • how long of a wait? ive been waiting a month now.

edit: you say 2 weeks ago? oops i missed it.

  • Got the same 2412M. Built like a tank, the response time is a myth. Borderlands 2 doesn't lag. If that doesn't, nothing will. Simple. Its frequently on sale at 30% on sale. Got mine for just under 300. No HDMI, only Displayport, (apart from DVI etc) but that is irrelevant in 2013.

  • Some have reported that if you talk with a Dell consultant on their site, they will give you the 30% off prices, if you ask nicely enough (e-haggling). By most reports the 2412M is a good monitor - if you're happy to pay, I say go for it.

    • meh i tried, they werent budging.

  • -1

you are going to pay a premium for 16:10
just sayin… monitor with same specs except 1920x1080 is going to be 3/4 the price…

    • Pffft, have you ever heard of IPS? And 16:9 is super demented for actual work.

    • Just buy a 27' inch and have black bars, still get way more screen-size and cheaper for the amount would pay for 16:10

      • … and way less pixels. Most of the time the cost difference between 16:9 and 16:10 is because the 16:10 screens are build for people who are going to care about image quality.
