Archos Video Player for Android at $2.49 (Half Price)

50

Archos video player at 50% off. Not sure how good it is compared to other players but one of its advantages is hardware acceleration. The interface is pretty nice.

No idea when the deal finishes but I put it up till next Sunday.

  • The build quality of Archos gear may be variable, but one hallmark of the company has always been extensive codec support, so the app might be worth a try. I gather that it's an update or two away from being where it should be, but that it is already good.
I have several media players on most of my devices, and very occasionally only one of them will play a given file. Maybe this will end up being a geniune all-in-one solution.

  • +2

Just to share what works for me - on the N4 I uses MediaHouse(DLNA/UPNP) player to find my media server. I've tested heaps and I find it's the nicest. For the player itself, I use MX player which has a pretty nice interface and plays everything except for DTS. For DTS I installed Archos Video All Codecs Plugin.

After years of f***ing around on the WP7 and IOS, the ease of streaming on the Droid was such a relief.

    • doesn't sound very easy

      • Just install 2 apps -
UPNP app to browse media files shared on network. click on desired media to play and it'll ask which external program you want to play the file. Choose MX player if you have it installed or your favorite app. DONE.

      • True, but like so much that's tech related it's just a case of muddling around until you find things that work.
As SKiZO said, for DLNA and related, MX player is the go. For me, for general use, and for many reasons, DICE Player is the one I use most, followed in order of frequency of use by MoboPlayer, MX, BS Player and ArcMediaPro.
Occasionally, for no readily explainable reason there are certain .avi files that will only play on the BS Player, and certain mpegs that only ArcMedia will play.
I haven't mentioned VLC for Android. If it ever exits beta it'll be great, but it still has glitches that have left me waiting.
