Free eBook - Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind (The Sword of Truth #2) DRM Free

450

EDIT: The Book is DRM Free and as such can be used on any device/app. I would recommend using Calibre for managing and converting book format.

Other books in the series cost upwards of 8 bucks on iTunes and the same ebook costs USD 8.54 on Amazon. Grab one while its free as I have no clue as to how long it will last.

text to speech - let iPad read it to you. Could be a great bedtime story.

      • Does it sound like Stephen Hawking?

    • +5

I'd say your username is a bit of a misnomer. The inability to read probably precludes you from being a doctor, Mr Watson.

  • +6

Just a warning - the series is ridiculously violent etc. I remember hearing one of the books contains 22 rapes and 13 beheadings.

    • +4

Do they have any happy endings ?

    • +2

I wouldn't class these books as "ridiculously violent". There are more beheadings in a Lord of the Rings movie in the space of three hours than there are in the significantly longer time you will spend reading one book. In terms of rape - there definitely is - but they aren't gratuitous pornographic acts. It happens for a reason and it must be taken in context. The thing I love about this series is that it's meticulously planned and there is not a lot that happens that doesn't have consequences down the line.

TL;DR - Yes there is violence (and sexual violence) but it isn't gratuitous and is all within the context of the excellent story.

Awesome series and well worth reading. In my top 5 fantasy series.

    • +3

Agreed, great series. Just wondering what the other 4 are? Always looking for new fantasy series that I haven't read.

      • +5

        Game of Thrones,
Raymond E Feist's books though not technically one series,
Sara Douglass's Axis Trilogy and Wayfarer Redemption though again not technically one series
and Katharine Kerr's Devery Cycle novels.

        • +1

Read martin's and feist's books. Will check out the other you mentioned though!

        • +2

Don't forget Wheel of Time… very long, but very good (and finally finished!)

      • -3

lucky you. many of us are looking for fantasies that we haven't lived.

        Lois McMaster Bujold:
        The Curse of Chalion
        Paladin of Souls
        The Hallowed Hunt
Curse of Chalion is especially good (for me) - you should be hooked in the first ten or so pages.

I can also add David Eddings "The Belgariad" and "The Malloreon" series to the list

  • +7

Excellent. This will add to my virtual bookshelf, collecting virtual dust until I get around to reading it one day.

Seems pretty silly marketing to offer the second book in the series for free - shouldn't they offer the first book free to hook readers in for the rest of the series?

    • +2

Or offer readers the second book and basically force them to buy the first book. Whereas if they offer the first book they will only get money from those who decide to keep going.

    • +5

I would take the first and pay to read the rest if I liked it.
I'm not interested in taking the second and paying for the first.

      • +1

My point exactly! There's no way I'm paying for the first book (sight-unseen) of a massive series just because I've got the second book free.

        • Or get it considering it free and hope for a deal on the first book. :)

    • got the first book in series for free a while back on amazon for kindle.

  • is this an ebook or ibook?

    • I know it's an ebook book but as you can only read it in iBooks app on an IOS device iBook seemed more fitting.
Edit: Looked a bit deeper and realised the book is DRM free. Fixed.

  • anyone know how i can send this to my kindle ?

    • +1

Use Calibre to convert it into mobi format and then you can either email it to your kindle address to just send it via Calibre itself.
EDIT: If using Calibre use AZW format instead of mobi. Just tried it and mobi has some issues (split words at the end of the line). Might be able to solve it but who cares if there is an alternative.

      • ty

      • hi, I just installed Calibre and it doesn't produce AZW output, only AZW3 which Amazon failed to understand/convert when I sent to the Kindle email address.

Any idea ? Thanks a lot.

        • AZW3 is the one i was talking about. I haven't used kindle email yet so excuse my ignorance but could it be that you have sent the epub file instead of the AZW3 file? If not then I would suggest you to plug in your kindle and use send to device from Calibre.

  • I love this book series probably one of the better reads but just a warning the last couple of books become very boring, it's kind of like a movie franchise where they just get worse and worse but to be fair the first couple of books are awesome.
Edit: I had a look at calibre and that looks freakin awesome!

  • I listened the entire series on audio book a couple of years ago and it was great. So if your lazy like me I would recommend getting the audio book instead of the ebook.

Can someone make this available to us people who don't use iTunes (Linux user) Thx in advance.

  • Decent series but over time the books become really preachy, same themes over and over again.

  • +1

My favourite book series of all time. By a long shot.

  • +2

Agree with the others - first few books were good, got pretty boring pretty fast towards the end. Felt stretched out.

I think a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) is still the best fantasy series. Then maybe Wheel of Time (though again, the latter books got slow…)

Can I ask… how do people find these free ebooks?

    • +1

Personally I stalk the Deals & Freebies section of the moblieread forum which is where I first saw this deal posted http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26
I know a lot of kindlers use the http://www.ereaderiq.com/free/ site as it can filter genre etc.

    • +1

The same principle of crowd sourcing applies here as well. I came across this deal when I was copying my ebook wish list from ereaderiq to luzme.com. Price tracing websites like ereaderiq and luzme are good tools but are limited in the sense that you can only watch so many books. For watching deals as melmac77 has already pointed out mobileread is pretty good.

      • Cool thanks for the tips!

The series started off good, but from Faith of the Fallen, it just went downhill from there. First fantasy book to get into and I highly recommend will be Magician.

    • not The Hobbit?

or The Bible? (I wonder if the Bible has an similar law to Godwins law in Fantasy book threads)

The only thing worse than a Terry Goodkind book is a Terry Goodkind ebook.

    You can't burn an ebook.

  • Anyone know some more good wizard books?
I didn't mind L.E. Modesitt, Jr books - Saga of Recluce, I like the way they also tell the other side of the story (bad guys?)
Terry Prattchet also has good books but a lot of people don't get the jokes in it..

This one is also free on amazon but I found them quite short (The second book I read in a day)
The Circle of Sorcerers: A Mages of Bloodmyr Novel

I am also reading Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan and I am on third book now and so far it has enough to keep me interested.

    More?

    • My favorite fantasy series of all time is the black magician series by trudi Canavan - a must read for fantasy lovers (is about magic)

      • +1

Yeah read those late last year, there good.

    • Mistborn Trilogy - Brandon Sanderson
      Sorcerer's legacy - Janny Wurst
The Green Rider - Kristen Britain
      The Gift - Alison Croggon
      Sabriel - Garth Nix

      • tnx checking them out now.

        • Do you have any suggestions?

        • Best series are
          WOT - Robert Jordan
Saga of Recluce - L.E. Modesitt, Jr
The Sword of Truth -Terry Goodkind

          Good series
Coldfire Trilogy - C. S. Friedman (odd take on magic)

          Still to try
          Soldier Son - Robin Hobb

When I was younger I read Anne McCaffrey - Pern series, they are based on dragons with a good twist to the whole series but can not remember what style it was..

One i started when i was on holliday and I have not bought and finished was Janny Wurts - Cyle of fire. I only started stormwarden but it seemed interesting at the time.

For the life of me I can not remember more without looking on my ipad..
