why do I have to txt you guys… why do you need to know that I am a "trusted" customer?
Lots of people use hacked paypal accounts. A verified phone number confirms that you're the owner of the paypal account.
"Lots of people use hacked paypal accounts. A verified phone number confirms that you're the owner of the paypal account."
That's the most ill founded statement I have read this year.
i purchased using paypal and they wanted me to send drivers license/ passport/ proof of address/ txt them email of order number and like them on facebook for "verification purposes", terrible service imo, got a refund straight away.
been lurking ozbargain for years and made an account today just to say this.
As mentioned in the terms of service new customers are required to verify by receiving a text or by sending one. Suspicious orders can be asked to send an id with sensitive info blurred.
Downloading the game now.

Thanks for posting.

You're welcome.
The whole texting thing is off-putting.
Surely you do not think that you can provide better security than PayPal with a text message
Ok this is weird but there have never been complaints regarding texts from any other region besides South East Asia and Australia. Maybe you guys get charged a lot for texts or there's some sort of spamming using cellphones going on. It's a one time requirement so customers become a trusted member. This allows future transactions to be smoother and faster. Developoxstore.com doesn't spam and is on the spam free list.
Moneybookers the primary credit card processor requires a text to be received before they process the payment. Lots of payment gateways require this for a secure and safe transaction.
Paypal doesn't require this because they have a different policy. The merchant isn't covered for a fraudulent transaction on paypal unless the merchant shows delivery confirmation (for physical shipments only).
Every payment processor requires different measures to be taken by merchants to protect themselves. As long as their's internet fraud some sort of verification has to be done. Wish there was a better option but there isn't.
It makes some people cautious and we can understand that is why listings on ebay are also offered. On ebay we will never ask you for phone verification or any other verification as long as you have a 20+ feedback score.
There's tons of information on google regarding online fraud and safety.
It's a combination of things. You seem to be asking for details that are not nessicary, and the only people who do that are usually scammers who are trying to data mine you so they can steal/rip you off.
That is why you are finding resistance. It won't matter what you say, when you're asking for that much info, it looks extremely suspect.
This is pointless.
Once again the required info is already provided by the payment processor. We just need verification that a scammer isn't using that info. In other words we verify your address to protect you from identity theft and ourselves from fraudulent transaction.
Even though lots of games we sell shouldn't be sold to people under 18 and yet we don't ask for an id.
It's a great deal for those who took advantage and still are taking advantage. Data mining is not done this way, there are surveys and freebies which are used to data mine. Selling retail games at cheap prices with reduced profits will be an awful way to data mine. The previously mentioned explanation should be enough, google a little on your own and the paranoia will pass.
People are suckers for freebies and ways to earn money online scams. We don't need a database on you, it must already exist with whitepages etc. Your online behaviors are already monitored by facebook and google, we don't have much use for your personal data besides the transaction.
is this legit? seems dodgy?
