Fetch TV Free with Optus Broadband and Phone Bundle - Existing Customers Included

190

Hi All,
Just got myself a free PVR and Fetch TV through Optus. I already have the $85.00 phone and cable plan. When I checked their site I noticed that they have added an offer of free fetch TV to the plan. Rang the sales team and the guys said I qualified on my existing plan.
Something for nothing, Im a happy man.

Rare any offer being extended to existing customers these days. +1 to the deal and Optus regardless of what it is.

Mate, it could be a Rick Astley cassingle, but it's free. May as well have a play with it if you have the time…

      • +6

I wonder if the Y gen are Googling cassingle ;-)

    • I kind of agree somewhat, never got sound on my Sony tv with Fetch TV. Spent a lot of time, Call support and they start with have you connected the cable…and they send you a doc to check as if you are one of those who use CD drive as coffee cup holder.

However, in Dec it got fixed automatically (I presume after an automatic firmware upgrade). make sure you use the HDMI cable supplied by them to avoid issues with older LCD/Plasma TVs.

If these guys are anything like Telstra they will automatically reset your contract to another 24 months because of contract changes. Even if they say they aren't make sure you get the conversation identity number that relates to them saying they aren't increasing the contract. Telstra told me it wouldn't increase then later I had to stay on the phone for over an hour while they realised they had told me something else previously! I actually did this dance 3 times…

  • I left optus a month ago. Not cool how they raised the price from 79 to 85, added nothing and took away 13/1300 numbers from included value.

    • Yeah with the increase last year they increased my plan from 20mbs cable to 100mbs cable so I have been happy with the additional speed, though was annoyed when I first received the increase letter

      • They increased my price from $109 to $110 but wasn't too fussed as I couldn't find any better plan. It's still great value given its 500 GB any time, unlimited local and mobile calls to any network and free premium speed pack.

        • Just left optus because they increased my plan by $30 a month and they said 'oh your old contract just finished, so we automatically rolled you over to one of the current plans'. They did this with no warning! Also i think most people who are on the new '100mbs' are actually not even getting a fraction of that, test it for your self.

Agreed, its very rare to max out the 100Mbps on international traffic during the evenings. Best you get is 2-3MB/s. On Sunday morning I can hit 7-8MB/s.

        • good that youre still on the old plan, new plans only come with 120 and 300gb

      • I couldn't really feel the increased download speed, but could have done with faster uploads for photos. Conveniently enough, TPG uploads are faster and aren't clamped down as tightly as Optus'.

    • My cost actually went down because they took 25% off because of my mobile plan.

They changed me from an $79 plan to $85 then took 25% off to go to $63.75. More than $15 off each month plus they added in the premium speed pack.

      Now maybe even a PVR!

    • Me too. Performance was woeful in the evening. The allowable speed definitions for broadband are a bit of a joke. Fetch will probably exacerbate it. Bring on the NBN in any form from any govt.

  • OP, did they extend your contract ? i have 12 months on mine (well 10 now) and i asked for the same thing, however they told me that i would be on a 24 month contract with the meTV, still free each month but fact that im now on an extended contract i didnt take it.

  • I'm on an old plan still - $55 for 120Gb and $15 for home 'phone bundle providing 'up to' $30 worth of calls. So $70 all up. Used to be $65, but they bumped it up $5 late last year. Still tempting to move to the current plan if only to get the (possibly) faster speed, with NBN many years away from where I am. Have a Topfield so don't need the fetch tv thing…

As leyton01 mentioned, they offer a 25% discount if you have a $30 or more mobile plan as well…. figure that 25% of $85 is $21.25 so that $30 plan is effectively only costing an additional $8.75 per month….. hmmmmm….

  • tpg do unlimited phone to local, national and all mobile phones including 13 numbers and that plus adsl2+ unlimited downloads for 60 a month 6 or 18 month contract, might be jumping on that, cant get cable in my area :/

  • So, if I read above correctly, the service is 100mbs cable?

What is the average speed expected on down and up?

    • its never 100mbps but upto that speed reality is more like 50mpbs down and 1-2 mbps up

  • +1

I went the 25% bundle discount on the 500Gb plan, faster cable, free fetch and I only had my mobile on a $34 plan so just made the $30 requirement. So my cable went from $111 to $105 and I have the cable upgrade and all the free calls.
Unlimited standard local and national calls to fixed lines
    Unlimited calls to 13/1300 numbers
Unlimited standard calls to Australian mobiles

    Worth checking out if you're with them;

    • now, that is the best bargain! you can get a decent phone as well on thei $50 plan with about $27 back from your broadband!

  • Thanks "Lovemybargains"

I called up and signed up straight away. Does the data you use for fetch TV get included in the plan ?
I am on a 120GB and struggling to cope with the quota during the school holidays !

    thanks

Fetch TV downloads are excluded from your plan.

    • don't know the exact answer, but Optus don't give any sites free traffic, so probably not.

      • oops, didn't see Skinny's post

  • If you get your service, make sure you get the ethernet over power adaptor+hub for $19.99. It works a treat!

  • I re-contracted for 24 months and got the free modem but does anyone know which ADSL/router they will provide. Is it N?

  • Thanks OP - realised I'm already paying $85 per month for phone and cable internet separately so went with a bundle with the Fetch TV.
