Swap n Go BBQ bottle - 8.5kg swap $19.80 @ Masters Preston Victoria. This could be Australia wide.

OzBargainers have also previously suggested prices of $19 to $22 found at Bunnings but varies by location.

Important post with Australia Day coming up - must save those dollars to buy those lamb chops to keep Sam Kekovich happy!

  • Just picked up the Masters catelogue from the mail box Bizarrely the front page has an empty 9kg BBQ bottle for $30, so the Swap n Go deal above with gas would work out cheaper. $56.85 for bottle and gas.

  • Yup, just paid $38 for my local Woolies/Caltex servo. Dang.

standard everyday price at bunnings is $21.95. Not sure why you would ever pay more.

      • Looks like $19.80 could be the normal price at Masters. There was no sign it was a special. Is this Australia wide though?

        • interesting… wonder if bunnings will do their price match minus 10% guarantee on the masters price?

        • wife paid $22 per bottle at the same Master two weeks ago,

        • You would hope Bunnings could beat it by 10%, they are owned by Wesfarmers who own Kleenheat Gas.

      • standard everyday price at bunnings is $21.95

Thats new! Last time I looked it was thirty-odd dollars, but with "free" delivery option.

      • Caltex servo - <1 min walk
        Masters - >40 min drive

    • I paid $30 last week for the same 8.5kg Swap n Go at BOC Gas. I did not know the Swap n Go brand was sold with such a huge variance in price.

  • saw this at Morayfield (QLD) on sunday

  • Same deal at the Gregory Hills (NSW) Masters, so I'd say it's a fair chance it's their normal price at all stores (much better deal than servo swap n go!)

  • Saw it today at knoxfeild. Spewing as I swapped a 3.7 at my local foodworks for $27.95… Kinda needed it then & there though…

  • Excellent, thanks

  • I've exchanged mine at Bunnings for $18 before, I was at a different Bunnings today that had it advertised for $19.xx (Sandown, Victoria). Price seems to vary between Bunnings stores.

  • Usual price for quite a while at Bunnings or Masters is $19-22

  • Thanks OP, perfect timing.
I had forgetten about the Bunnings everyday price and the 10% price match with MASTERs

    • Yeah, agreed!!!
Once again, I'd forgotten about the 2 empty bottles in the garage!!!

i swapped over a 12 year old bottle (expired) 2 weeks ago. They didn't even check. Win :D

  • Is this the standard size for the BBQ? I pay $13 any day at my local servo. This is the one where they fill it up on the spot. Couple of places in Sydney are round the same price.

    • The fill-while-you-wait is always cheaper… Pity less and less places do this.

I don't miss doing this when I worked in a hardware store over Xmas… Half the day refilling…

    • There are 2 standard sizes the 4kg (3.7kg) and the 9kg (8.5kg). $13 would be unusually cheap for a 9kg refill, though I there are a few old school servos that are apparently doing it for around the $16-20.

  • Do these guys honour smaller cylinders like Elgas Swap & Go? Can I take my 4kg in and swap it for a 9??

    • +1

Sure can, slightly more, price in the picture at the top.

Went to the service desk at my local Bunnings, showed the lady this page on the phone, and paid $17.82.
    Thanks, ozb!

Needed a re-fill/swap so searched OzB to uncover this thread. Oxley (QLD/Brisbane) Bunnings is close to me but the nearest Masters is extra 10km outward to Springfield QLD so wasn't sure how I would go with price-match.

Turned out not an issue because they already have price on 8.5kg Kwik-Swap dropped to $19.70 - presumably to avoid price-matching.

From memory last time I went to Bunnings I paid c. $24 for a swap whereas BCF at Browns Plains charged c $20 for a fill.

This link shows $21.85 for a standard in-store swap or $36.98 for a delivered-swap - leave the empty one out for them - which I didn't know they do!

  • i work at masters preston,
$19.80 is the standard price (no discount) for 8.5kg swap
    +$30 for an empty bottle
    =$49.80 for fresh full bottle

don't bother with the smaller 3.7kg bottle you get >2x as much for literally the same price if not cheaper.

price change going out within next few days,
8.5kg swap bumping up to $21.85

    • Plus vote for the information - not the price increase. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Anyone get a good deal in Adelaide? Or should I just go to bunnings and be done with it? What is the age limit on LPG bottle to swap?

    • I believe bottles need to be less than 10 years old, however I and others have taken out of date bottles to a Swap n Go before without them checking. Good way to get an in date bottle.
