"Ikea Manstad sofa bed (Red only) $424.15 with ikea family card RRP$999"

The website shows regular price of $499. Where did you get $999 from?

Edit: Ah, I see. The red is normally $499 but the other two colours are $999. Can that be real?

  • I got it from here-

    http://www.ikea.com/au/en/store/logan/offers

    Normally $999 for red- Sale price $499 - Plus %15 off $424.15

good price. makes a great guest bed that is uncomfortable by the third day. means that guest wont overstay their welcome.

    • +1

Not unless the "guest" already sleeps in a sofa bed at home -_-.

  • That's ridiculously cheap- was considering this when it was $999 compared to the current couch I plan to buy (King Delta Storage).

    • you can't compare this to a king delta… its like comparing a Great Wall and any decent car…

having said that, at the price, it seem a bargain for an Ikea sofabed

Its like comparing a Great Wall to … a car

        • the car makes…. =/

      • Very true- it definitely looks and feels cheap relatively speaking. Given I plan to use it alot, and also to entertain, I think I'll avoid temptation and just buy the real deal. That being said for this price, if someone wants a cheap sofabed with storage compartment, it's a good price. I also don't think it's that uncomfortable if someone is only staying a night or two.

      • Would you like some asbestos with your sofa too?

  • In the Tempe store,

    http://www.ikea.com/au/en/store/tempe/offers/

The chair with the blue pad seems like a bargain $24.65 down from $129

  • no stock in tempe and most likely no stock in homebush bay drive too. =(

  • Ugh I've been looking to buy this in the beige - but the red is looking pretty good at $500 less

  • Looks like a good deal, but you'd need a degree in engineering to put the thing together!

  • There's a lot of videos on Youtube and I have to admit- it looks like it takes quite a lot of effort.

  • Why is tree such a difference in price just because of colour….? Its almost $500

    • Having said that, would you buy the red one over the other colour options?

      • +2

why not? give your guests headaches after the second day.

oh, and if you were using it, id throw a nice soft cover to make it comfy.

  • Not all stores, excludes at least Adelaide store which still shows $999.

    • IKEAs in WA&SA are managed by different company from ones in eastern shore.

  • Flat Packed?

  • +3

The original price of $500 for the red one in comparison to the other two is cheaper because of this:

"Total composition: 65% polyester, 35% cotton"

The other two are "Fabric: 100% cotton"

It is also why the red one has different "care instructions"

Therefore the red one is made of lower quality.

  • No red in stock at Logan

  • Nice post!! Suggest to change the title to RRP$499 for the Red colour. Putting RRP$999 is a bit misleading I think :)

    • To be honest I'm pretty sure RRP of this was $999 very recently because all the Manstad couches were near each other (at least in the Homebush store) when I visited about <1mth ago.

  • +2

We've had ours for 3-4 years now (beige). It was 1299 back then. It came in 3 bulk pieces. I had a difficult time assembling it alone because of weight. Also difficult to remove stains. It's not a soft couch either.

    • Thanks for the info. Is it not comfy as it is thin on foam? And how is it as a bed?

The photos make it look like thick foam/mattress, but the lid on the chase looks to be a wooden frame?

Also can you actually get a double size sheet over the base when using as a bed? Or is it all screwed together and now a movable mattress as such?

      Thanks!

      • Damn Lenovo back button next to the left arrow key meant I lost my detailed post!

Basically on the sofa component, there's a drawer at the bottom which has a little fabric handle (Not sure if it'll lasT) which when you pull, pulls out a drawer which a matress then pops UP and out of. Matress is slightly smaller as it has to fit in the drawer but gaps aren't too bad. You then remove back pillow/cushion things and it'll be big enough to be a near-double sized bed. Put a cover/sheet on it and some normal pillows and you'll be set for unexpected visitors. There are plenty of Youtube videos of the manstad couch and how it works so have a look.

IMO though you wouldn't want this as your main couch. It isn't that bad but it isn't that comfy either compared to regular couches. The bed isn't that comfy either and if you sit on it the wrong way you'll land on something hard and it is a bit uncomfortable (my gf hurt herself thinking it'd be softer when she landed). The gaps are also there so you need to lie a certain way or you'll have that feeling you get in some hotels where two single beds are next to each other and they call it a double, but when you lie in the middle you feel the gap.

Also note the chase component is a storage unit (i.e. you lift it up and it's a tank. Not as big as King Storage ones but enough to fit bedsheets and pillows in.

  • i got one in Homebush bay. there was still 1 left over when i left just before closing.
at tempe they said they were going to get another shipment of 20 on Sunday….

  • +1

It seems like they've put 3 couches that look identical at the same price to make people think they are and then dropped the price on one to make it seem like an awesome deal.

    • Probably had them at $999 then decided they needed a cheaper option so destined one in a less popular colour with cheaper fabric (I.e. not 100% cotton like the other colours) in order to hit a price point…….though I'm certain the actual cost of all three units is fairly low.

Still, I'm tempted so I can get rid of the spare bed and just have this when guests stay

  • Bagged one, just what I was after. Thanks OP

    • Where from?

So I called Homebush Bay and asked if I can pay for one because apparently they were getting more stock and they said no.

I then called back and asked them to check all stores. The lady on the line said she called Tempe who had 4 left in stock and she confirmed it with the warehouse. I got to the store 30mins later and went to buy one. The guy said none left… As I talked to him another couple was sitting there also a bit annoyed that the stock was showing online at Tempe and they got there with their trailer and they blew them off too.

The warehouse guy checked the system and it said "4 reserved". I told him that it was strange they were reserved because when I tried to reserve one they told me they don't reserve these. I asked him to check the physical stock and lo and behold - 2 physical stock left.

I thought great! One for me and one for the couple who drove far to get one. The guys said he needs to update the system before we can buy it - so I went and had breakfast while I waited. I also went to go and test it out. There was a display and just as I went to go look at it - the manager came to take it away because "There are none left in stock and we shouldn't have it on display if we can't sell it" - after which I told him "Well it's funny because you have 2 in stock but your system has an issue and I managed to buy one anyway"

I was pretty happy about being able to get it and tested it out before they took it away.

Came back to pay and the guy said "actually sorry those 2 they aren't available anymore." I asked for the manager. Manager came out and said "Yeah those were reserved for other customers" at which point I asked "What the hell you guys told me these can't be reserved" and he said they were reserved until they are paid for upon collection (which still doesn't make sense).

So in the end - I said to him "What about that display?" and he said that it wasn't sold when I was testing it out - but that he sold it while I waited for my new one to be prepared by the warehouse guy through the system…

So all in all a gigantic waste of time and for the manager to hear my story about the couch I just purchased and how I was just testing it out before I collected it only to be sniped on the display model - super disappointing…

that is shitty, personally I would of asked for a free meal as compensation or something. Also I wouldn't of trusted the guy to hold it for you until you paid for it.

    • It's just like calling a bank. If you don't get the answer that you want, call again to speak to another person.

    haha f**k your couch!
