$438 HP CQ45 14in Laptop 1.8GHz 6GB RAM 120GB SSD | $548 6GB RAM 240GB SSD

110

Our 6 Month Anniversary is coming up in 10 days. So we have decided to start releasing some of the deals a little earlier as a thank you to all of the Ozbargainers who have supported us over the last 6 months! AND from now until the end our Anniversary promotion on the 21st of Jan we will be throwing in a bonus voucher with every order over $100. They will range from $5-$50 and be distributed randomly as we fulfill each order. Our way of saying thanks for helping Flingshot get to where we are today so quickly!

As always any issues email us [email protected]

Also if a MOD would be so kind as to fix the caps for us, we ran out of them in the title apparently ;)

UPDATE: Due to feedback we have dropped the price across the board on these models.

  • Is celeron CPU too old now. Intel Celeron Dual Core B830 1.8GHz

Doesn't really seem like a good bargain, no usb 3 + crap processor….

    • +2

No USB 3 is definitely a downside, but the CPU combined with the SSD will certainly be faster than many more expensive machines.

      • +1

The lack of usb3 is a major down flaw considering the SSD is tiny and everyone will be running external HDDs. I just can't find the value in it considering you can buy non sale 3rd gen i3-i5 from msy etc for around that price range.

        • Agreed, just did a bit more looking, HP i3 = $399, HP i5 = $499 (very basic models). Add $100 for the SSD…

Still not going to neg this deal, because at least this company is including the SSDs by default and that is a trend that needs setting.

    • Yup, alternatively for $398 + $99 for 120GB SSD, and you end up with a spare 500gb HDD you could put in an external enclosure.

Same CPU (Celeron B830), bonus 8gb ram (total 10gb), 1xUSB3.0 port

      http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/pscbxa-00q004-bonus-tota…

But surely there are deals for i3 laptops around this price (last week for example http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89566), and SSD sales happen very very often…

Of course if you build a machine yourself you are going to save some money, whether it is worth it will depend on the time involved and the price difference. Then there are people who just don't feel comfortable doing it themselves, and there are actually a lot of those people on OZB we have found.

Hmmm, in its defense, it has a modern (low end) processor, decent ram, and an SSD, which are becoming very important in laptops these days. So it will have adequate performance for a low end laptop… buuuut its a Compaq, and about $50-100 over-priced in my opinion.

    • +2

Though, its nice to see a company pushing low end laptops with SSDs. Not many people seem to be doing this, so props to flingshot for that!

      • +4

We really can't in good conscience sell a machine these days without an SSD. The difference is just too big, especially since many of the newer low end machines support SATA 6GB/s.

Unless you need a ton of storage AND portability it just doesn't make sense to compromise.

        • +3

It's actually quite difficult to fill a laptop drive, unless you deliberately put a heap of music/videos on it..

I use my laptop primarily for work, which involves a lot of ISO download, tech software, etc, and I've only just gone over 128GB after 6 months .. and it's got a 600GB drive. Doubt I'll fill it any time soon!

Besides, a laptop is a very poor place to keep all of your important information - most likely item to be stolen, from anywhere.

If this was available in pink and $299 delivered I would have been all over this deal.

  • I have an Asus laptop X43U with similar spec (AMD E350 instead of Intel Celeron), I put in the SSD HDD and added more RAM myself. Works out to be around $388. So essentially I think this deal has the potential to be at least $50 less.

    • Just curious what the breakdown was in regards to the components?

      120GB SSD?
      4GB RAM?

What was the initial price of the laptop?

      • Asus X43U laptop, 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, HDMI, Radeon HD 6310M - $288 delivered

        Kingston 4GB DDR3 Laptop RAM, PC-10600, 1333MHz So-Dimm - $21.5 delivered

Samsung 120GB SSD from MSY - $90 pickup

Total: $399.5 (so it wasn't $388, but I did end up with an extra 320GB HDD)

    • Would cost at least $50 to assemble so can't see any difference in value.

      • Granted my time is not free, probably took me 30 minutes to pick up and swap out the hhd, another 15 minutes to order and install the RAM. But remember that the vendor is getting everything at everywholesale price whereas I paid retail.

        • Don't forget the time to install windows + drivers on the hard drive. Thats the major hassle with swapping out an hdd for an ssd.

        • true but I did this at work, during lunch hours of course lol.

  • Waiting for 15" laptop deal on flingshot anniversary.

  • Hi Flingshot.

I've supported your awesome site since its conception.

    however i'd like a deal on a Asus S400CA :) i5 or i3 it doesnt matter. :)

The good guys have the ASUS S400CA-CA012H for $864.

    make my day :)

  • Now that the price has been dropped, this deal should be doing better… but for some reason it is not showing up on the first page of deals on either the home page or the computing page :/

    • I think it got buried initially by not hitting the front page.

      • Different & better deal to make to home page please :)
