    • I'm guessing they're bulk billing the procedure so no out of pocket for that, but you pay for the consultation which is technically a different item number than the procedure.

Pack of rubber bands is $3.49 on Amazon.

    Just saying.

    • 😹

      • 🐏

    • Your hands are also free.

      Just saying

    • double duty for haemorrhoids removal too…

    • +1

And how much for the axe?

    • Bulk billed means free, the rubber bands would be more expensive. This is OzBargain, I am not buying Bezos another yacht if I can avoid it.

      • Though you correctly state bulk billed means free, you’ve not done your calcs in the context of this deal.

I’ll spot you a rubber band.

        • Damned consultation fees. Fair, bring on the rubber bands.

    • Take the whole lot off, you think?

For anyone unsure of how the "Scalpel Free" method works, here is a quick vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnIGmG9uv3A

      Or this…

      Probably no less painful.

He brings the “vas” up… and rubs the lotion on the “vas”.

      • +7

sounds pretty professional…. but if no scalpel is involved, is the initial keyhole done with an ozito drill, or upmarket with the ryobi?

        • +4

Only an eighth of an inch hole in the scrotum, it probably just occurs spontaneously upon entering the “office”.

I had it done back in the bad old days when they used a samurai sword. Bag of peas on the couch for a day or two and back in the saddle before you could say, “That’s not really bulk-billing.”

    Speaking from experience lol

Used to do scalpel free in the play ground. Swift kick to the balls.

Didn't save me, missus tried valiantly to leap off but it turned out to be the happiest accident, another beautiful daughter (2 in June). An absolute blessing.

This comment is so wholesome 😌🥰

          • @tenpercent: So out of character, I know I know 🙄😂

            • +5

@Ham Dragon: I appreciate your wholesomeness. I'm expecting my first this year (daughter) and there is too much negativity in offhand comments I see online. Nice to see your comment for some balance.

              • +2

@EBC: The joke was on me, I'm prone to acerbic remarks & being a bit of an (profanity). Anyway, that's great to hear about your daughter, being a parent is next level, equal parts terror/amazement/fulfilment/despair + many more emotions, not in that order. It sort of feels like you have arrived at your manifest destiny, pretty cool. I cannot recommend the free Triple P Parenting resource enough. It will keep you grounded in moments of frustration & WTF. Good luck mate!

  • Is this a good deal? What's an average price? It will be my turn soon

    • +5

It’s pretty cheap - I personally went with Doctor Dick Beatty mainly because he has a funny name and you get a fun little commemorative stubby cooler with every snip. $460 after rebate currently.

      • "with every snip".. How many snips do you need?

      • Sage advice. That’s how I choose my medical procedures too :p

        • He had good reviews too - I guess there’s that too

      • I hear Doctor Hans Bigge is pretty good too

      • +1

Thanks for the link to Dr Dick - -Beatty!
His information is really good and well presented.
Even if you do choose someone else, read his stuff first!

    • Definitely do your own research based on your area, I found plenty of useful Reddit posts for Perth. I personally was willing to pay more for more assurance rather than going through some dodgy looking place which pays a lot for advertising- although saying that I actually got mine for free, I just needed a GP referral (which was bulk billed).I got mine through MSI, they've got clinics all over Aus I think.

And as everyone else on Reddit said, it's been one of the best things I've ever done 😎 just make sure to stay in bed for a few days after

    • Dr Nick?

  • So $295 plus (out of pocket) $212?

    • +2

      Hello,

The fees for consultation at the time of booking is $295 which includes the out of pocket. Not additional.

The procedure is medicare rebated and bulk billed at this stage (until the available appointments are filled).

      Thank you

  • Why in Queensland?

    • +4

Fewer in-breds gotta be a good thing.

      Victorian men all became women

Coz they are doing it only on kings

    • The amount of medical services available in QLD has not kept up with the demand and is worse than even other states…
They had a lot of growth in QLD a few years ago and the infrastructure and services has not been able to catch up.
"Yes, Queensland faces a significant shortage of medical services, particularly in GP and mental health care,
which appears to be worse than in many other parts of Australia,
with some areas experiencing critical shortages and long wait times."

Don't waste your time. Vasectomies do not work. I got a vasectomy so that I’d never have children anymore. Got home and the little bastards were still there.

    • You've got it wrong! After they reach 18 you don't have children anymore. The correct term becomes live in dependants.
Look on the bright side… in your old age when you need a bit of help, you don't need to ask the kids if you can move in!

      • +2

Just posted nonsense for my own lulz. They are brilliant. All parents think that but I was childless at age 40. I didn't think I was missing anything. Now all my kids are aged between 12 and 7. Really different experience being an old father. I guess it's all I know so I don't know what it's like for the average family. Guess it's always felt like the young families in the park are more "normal" and my story is somewhat more "unique". I think of the times I've had just the eldest with me somewhere and someone has asked me "oh, is this your only/first grandchild" 😂🤣🥹

  • FYI any SGOQ employees can access up to a week of reproductive leave when undergoing this procedure, you just need a GP (helps if you know one personally) who will sign off on the leave.

    • reproductive leave

But this seems counter-intuitive to that…

      • +1

Reproductive health…women can use it for endo issues & blokes for anything related to the sausage & taters.

        • Can you take time off for practice?

    • +2

      Hi

Yes you are right. SGOQ employees do get 10 days of reproductive leave and we issue a specific formatted letter to support that leave request. Patients need to ask for this letter when they come to have their procedure. We are aware of this requirement and support our patients for this request.

Thanks for bringing this info to the discussion.
