[eBay Plus] Flashforge Adventurer 5M 3D Printer $327.20 (Was $549) Delivered @ Flashforge 3D PRO eBay

490
APL20

It's back! But looks like it's only for the ebay plus members.

I bought this from the last deal and couldn't be happier. Printed well straight out of the box after just a few minutes set up. Of course being a chronic tinkerer I had to install the Klippermod firmware which is so easy it isn't funny, and it can be just as easily undone. This guy's video walks you through it

Grab some rolls of Jayo PLA and PETG and if you want the enclosure kit and Robert's your mother brother.

  • Doesn't look like the pro model. Might want to correct the title

That’s the name of the store

        🤣

    • Good one. April fools day was 3 days ago.

    • Might want to learn how to read before you make comments!

Ouch - you guys are savage! Honest mistake…

  • Can this print chickens ?

  • +1

    Same question. This or bambulab

    • +1

      Bambu probably (but pricier)

    • +5

I was on the verge of buying a bambu prior to buying this a few weeks ago. I've got no regrets at all. This thing prints fast and it prints well. The support appears to be good from the few people on the Flashforge subreddit and discord channels I have seen, there are of course always people who blow up and have a bad time, but my experience has been very positive.

Good luck in making your decision. You can't lose either way really. Unless you want AMS, but then, this printer wouldn't even be a consideration if that were the case.

    • +1

bambu a1 or a1 mini for sure. At a different tier of support and level than all the other stuff

    • Bambu Lab A1 or mini.

      • If I can only have one printer, I'll choose the A1.
+ Larger bed: you can print bigger/longer or fit more parts for a project on the bed.
+ Large touchscreen: easier to use
+ Max bed temperature on A1 is 100 degrees compared to A1 mini 's 80 degree.

However, the A1 is nearly $170 more expensive than the A1 mini ($499 vs $329 atm, or ~52% more expensive).
Also, the A1 mini is very portable. You can even print a handle to carry it around easily.

I'd get a Bambu Labs printer. I got the A1 Mini for personal use, but found myself needing to print stuff for my classes at school. The machine has been a monster without any faults or downtime at all. Swapping filaments between TPU, PLA, and PETG it does it all; no clogs, blockages, no issues. Wet filaments, no problems.

I doubted it as it was cantilevered but boy was I wrong. That shit is the DJI of 3D printers.

      • That's impressive. I think I'm sold

      • If you were to get it again. A1 or a1mini?

        • +2

As for me, I only print small things such as:

          1. Jewellery (as a project for year 7s)
          2. Robot parts such as arm levers, grippers, sensor mounts, etc.
          3. Plastic clips and pin replacements that have broken off from mowers/trimmers.
          4. Enclosures for Arduino boards.

Because of this, I'd get the A1 mini again because the print bed is plenty big in size.

If you were printing say models such as a Terminator head, or Thor's hammer then you'd definitely get an even bigger one than the A1. But yeh, you can't go wrong with a Bambu Labs printer.

          • @Bignudge: Thanks. Very helpful

@SS625: Last thing, try your best to buy directly from Amazon AU. Warranty is non existant, but return + refund is pretty much guaranteed… even like 2 years later.

          • @Bignudge: How's that going with printing H&K MP5?

    • +7

Just make sure you google some of the Bambu lab issues before you buy one.
Like their recent forced firmware update issue, there making even local print jobs go through their cloud overseas issue, their locking out 3rd party alternative software issue (lots of people like to use things like orcaslicer or klipper… They are open source but really good)… Those are customer relevant issues.
Then there is also their historic intellectual property theft issues, and their lack of repair / user support compared to some other brands.
Bang for buck and performance, they are top tier though.

I bought this printer from last deal, couldn't be happier, it just print straight out from the box. been printing non-stop for amost a month now. If anyone was thinking about getting into hobby without breaking the bank, this is it. i have no experience about 3d printing but have great success with this printer.

  • I want to get this for my 7 year old son. Worth it? He's loves this kind of stuff. Happy to spend up to 500.

    • +3

I don't want to put you off, but I guess it depends on what you want him to get out of it. Keep in mind it will be you who has to learn how to setup and use the printer, fix bugs, unclog nozzles, adjust and replace parts, diagnose issues, etc. 3D printing is still very much a hobby and needs a lot of time and patience. Your 7y.o. will learn a lot and enjoy taking different 3D printed toys to school for show&tell…

In my experience, beyond the first couple of weeks of excitement I found only one of my two boys had much ongoing interest in 3D printing, and he is 9yo

    • And just be aware that the nozzle gets up to 230+c … Really hot. And it's exposed.

Also got this printer from last deal. Print quality is really good out of the box. However, I have had issues when printing the enclosure where the printer would completely freeze half way through. Turning the printer off and on again and attempting to resume through the prompt fails. It has only happened on long prints 8+ hours. The first time I lost the print and 100+ grams of filament. The second time it failed, the print was still on the bed before I did research and managed to manually recover by starting a new print, but removing the g code for the already printed layers (again, auto recovery failed for me).

Just something to be aware of if it happens to you. It appears as though Flashforge firmware is of quite poor quality, as various other firmware issues have come up when researching the issue I was having. I suspect the freezing issue has something to do with WiFi, as I had printed by uploading the prints over WiFi through OrcaSlicer where they failed. For the rest of the enclosure, I disabled WiFi and manually uploaded the prints via USB and didn't have any further issues, even with long 8+ hour prints.

I havent tried the Klipper mod as it appears the Flashforge hardware is quite low spec in terms of memory (128MB) and is prone to running out of memory with the mod. Seems you can get around this by running low spec. Related to the freezing issue? Unsure. Printer logs are also locked behind a password that only support has access to…

I'll also add for potential buyers. The non-pro model requires turning on/off the machine from the back using a switch which I found incredibly annoying. A solution I did was to use a smart plug to control on/off from my phone and leave the printer in the on position.

      • +1

Whilst the PRO version does have a power button on the front, the fans continue to run after switching the unit off using the front button. forcing you to still use the on/off switch on the back

        • I imagine it will run the fans till the print head cools down , shutting off the fans immediately after a print can cause clogging, I usually wait till it hit 30c before shutting down.

    • I havent tried the Klipper mod as it appears the Flashforge hardware is quite low spec in terms of memory (128MB) and is prone to running out of memory with the mod. Seems you can get around this by running low spec.

There is a guppy screen version of the klippermod for the 5M which solves the memory issue. I installed that version.

  • Mine is still in the box. 4am impulse buys don't always check for available bench space first. Next weekend hopefully I'll find out how good it is.

    • You would need to be there every step of the way to assist

    • I'm with you. Mines still in the box

  • Bed size?

    • Details are one click away.

  • I bought one just over two hours ago.. I tried to post the deal but it said Flashforge 3d pro was banned as a seller by ozbargain..

Fantastic printer! Now I'll have two!!

  • Bought this from one of the previous deals. Has printed flawlessly everything I've thrown at it. Stock firmware with official OrcaSlicer. The only downside being that I haven't had to troubleshoot yet!

  • +2

I got this from the last sale, it's a great unit at this price.
I'm 150h in, had to make a few tweaks in OrcaSlicer to get Silk PLA+ to come out nice but otherwise, no issues with the default settings for PLA/PLA+ and PETG. No issues with printing the enclosure either. The factory firmware although limited, does everything you need it to.
I did try KlipperMod but something funky happens to the Z-offset even after calibrating so reverted.
The only annoyance is the fan is always on, and can be quite loud.

    • Where'd you buy the enclosure kit from?

I ordered off a seller on AliExpress who was just dodgy, wanted me to cancel it as they claimed it was out of stock but has been relisted for 2x the price plus ~$40 delivery. Amazon is also out of stock as well by the time I saw the message from the seller who put in a fake tracking number to the order.

      • Same, I had originally bought it from AliExpress, I got a message to cancel it but it still got marked as shipped and I was provided with a tracking number that belonged to someone else. Got the order refunded and reordered on Amazon when it was available.

        • Thanks for the reply. Printed all the parts that I need thinking the order was on it's way and now I need to wait till it's back in stock at Amazon 😂

  • got one from last deal, is great.. must convince myself I don't need another

  • How's the integration with Home Assistant? Looks like there is a HACS plugin - https://github.com/kruzhkov/hass-flashforge-adventurer-5 - any issues using it?

  • Sooo tempted but my wife has strictly forbidden me lol but i so need 2 printer's

  • Got one in the last deal. It's a lot of fun.

  • Sorry if this is a bad question, I'm looking to get into 3D printing.

Comparing the Neptune 4 Pro (Recent OzBargain for ~$343) vs this Flashforge Adventurer 5M for $328.

Below is what AI comparison had to say but wondering real thoughts people have.

"The Flashforge Adventurer 5M boasts faster printing speeds and a Core-XY structure for enhanced stability, which might appeal to beginners or those prioritizing speed and precision.

If you're looking for versatility and advanced features, the Neptune 4 Pro is the better choice. However, if speed and ease of use are your priorities, the Flashforge Adventurer 5M might be more suitable."

    Appreciate the feedback.

    • +1

get the 5. As much as I love Elegoo for their great support, core XY is better here.

I have the 5, a Neptune 3 max and Elegoo Centauri Carbon. Currently trying to sell the 3 max as the two core XY's are just so much better.

Edit: better because it takes up less space, print quality is great, speeds are great, unit is more stable, has the option to be enclosed allowing for more filament options, can easily get a camera add-on.

      • Legend! Appreciate the response

  • Got this in the last deal. After 8h of use I sent it back. Nozzle started dragging along the bed causing the prints to detach and end up with a big birds nest of filament. After a few back and forth troubleshoot emails with Flashforge support, we went through z offset, bed calibration and a myriad of other things, they wanted me to essentially remove the whole belt system of the printer to re calibrate that. At which point I refused and sent it back for a refund. It’s a great printer while it was working and excellent value for the price, but I think I’ll just get the Bambu. Can’t fault the Flashforge support or return service though, they are very helpful.

  • I got this in the last sale, I can say as a beginner who has been wanting to get into 3d printers for quite a while it has been fantastic. Printed nearly every day since I've got it, only one failed print and that was my fault for not using supports on a piece that needed it.
I printed the enclosure and added the panel kit, bought a camera and have a light on the way. Although none of that is necessary.
For those who like to tinker a little without having to tinker if you don't want to or those who just want to inbox and print on the cheap, this is a great way to get into the hobby.

  • Adding to the positive comments, got one in last deal, still not sure I entirely need a 3d printer but for sure wouldn’t be able to justify the cost of other similar printers, this one is great for the money tho. I have had no problems with this.

  • I haven't looked in to 3D printing lately, but this one's specs say it has auto-levelling, which is a very good thing. I have a 3D printer I got a few years ago, but needs manual levelling done after each print. An annoying process.

  • I built an Hypercube 300x300 10 years ago which has had numerous upgrades over the years and found that I rarely need such a large bed so snapped one of these up and will put mine up for sale , should break even as long as it prints as good as the Hypercube.
