Why are we closing down?

We have some bittersweet news to share with you all. After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the Macadamia Nut Hut.

What started as a small, family-run business has grown into something beyond what we ever expected, mostly thanks to ozBargainers incredible support. We are so grateful for your loyalty over the years, and we’re truly honoured that you enjoyed our products.

As we’ve grown, we faced challenges that made it difficult to maintain the stock levels needed to continuously provide the nuts that you all loved. After partnering with a processor/packer to help us meet demand, we’ve come to realise that, unfortunately, it was harder than anticipated to keep up with the standards we’ve always held dear.

To mark the end of this chapter, we’re holding a closing down SALE on all of our remaining stock. If you’ve been waiting to grab some of your favourite Macadamia Nut products, now is the time!

We want to express our deepest thanks for your support throughout the years. It’s been an incredible journey, and we are so grateful for every customer, friend and supporter we’ve met along the way.

Thank you for being a part of the Macadamia Nut Hut family.

Warmly,
The Macadamia Nut Hut Team

  • $36 dollars a kilo for macadamia nuts… Where is the deal?
I would not even mention the price of Macadamia oil, it is not competitive at all.

PS I guess therein lies a hint of why you close down.

    • +17

If you check out previous deals, you'll know that those who have bought them know how good their macadamias are compared to what you get from supermarkets etc. They' also sell many flavoured varieties which requires extra work and care. I won't be the only one that's sad to hear that they're closing down.

      • +9

I never buy flavoured nuts so would not be able to argue with you in that area. However, pure raw or roasted nuts…
Macadamia: I have tried different varieties from multiple sources, unless they are stale or rancid which does not happen a lot, I struggle to tell the difference, correct me if I am wrong but I think there may only been one species of macadamia in AU.
Almonds: often a big difference, thus I tend to buy from nut shops. But the current batch in coles (unlike woolworths) is actually great.

        • -1

I actually find the Woolworths Macadamias Kernels Raw 400g Pack tastes fresher. I only eat raw and non-roast.

        • If you're in Sydney, I recommend Harris Farm almonds. They're on sale at least once a month which brings them down to $12/kg. Consistent quality and way better than Coles and Woolies. I can't comment on Coles' current batch, but I've always found them almost inedible. It's like they're coated in dirt.

        • don't think. Find out facts.
          Macadamia integrifolia (Queensland Nut):
This is the most common species grown commercially and is known for its smooth-shelled nuts. It's native to the rainforests of southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales.

          Macadamia tetraphylla (Rough-shelled Macadamia):
This species is also commercially grown and is known for its rough-shelled nuts. It is native to the rainforests of northeastern New South Wales and southeastern Queensland.

          Macadamia ternifolia (Gympie Nut):
This species is found in southeastern Queensland and is known for its unique nut shape and flavor.

          Macadamia jansenii (Bulberin Nut):
This is a rare and endangered species, found in a small area of central Queensland.

          • @id: Leave this mentor tone for your kids mate. I can search online too. What I meant was that I could not feel any difference in any of the nuts taste regardless where I bought them.
You'll readily find Macadamia integrifolia and, to a lesser extent, Macadamia tetraphylla nuts in stores, I do not know where to buy these separately, they are often mixed. The other two are impossible to find in stores.

            M. integrifolia is the dominant species in commercial production and is more widely recognized.
            M. tetraphylla is also grown commercially and contributes to the overall macadamia nut supply, but its distinct characteristics are less well-known to the average consumer.

            • @Musiclover: Yes. U asked for it. You have been corrected by google..also you might learn something from the ops website regarding reasons for their price. If you are bothered by price get the Chinese macadamia, with your standards U won't find a difference in tastes.

              • @id: Where can you get Chinese Macadamia in Australia? I have never seen them anywhere.

      • So wheres the DEAL? The closing down deal?

    • +2

      Where do you find cheaper?

      • Online, sometimes brick and mortar stores.

        • +3

Link to cheaper, equal quality macadamias online please?

          • -3

@solidice: As I pointed out above, ALL macadamia in Australia are equal quality. It is not almonds where you get variance. The only difference could be if you are unlucky enough to get any which are past due date.

      • +6

nuts about life have it for cheaper

        • Free shipping?

          • +2

@Jklaro: If your order's over $100 there's a coupon code floating around here that'll give it.

            • @kotposter: Its $1 less if ordering 1kg but no free shipping unless i spend $100. This is good if you dont want 3kg

          • @Jklaro: free pick up for me

        • +2

Don't waste your money with nuts about life. Speaking from past experiences.

          • +1

@ChanS: Great business, ordered around 20 times from them, every time great experience. ($100+ orders each time)

    • +2

These are not $10/kg peanuts. Macadamias have always been expensive.

    • -1

If it's a lie, it's going to be the last lie. Who knows.

    • +10

A small business is closing down and taken the time to post the deal.

If the price doesn't suit perhaps you should consider how difficult it is to run a small business in Australia. The more of these small businesses that close down means less competition and the stronger the large corporations get.

I've placed a final order and wish Macnut Hut all the best.

      • -1

Unfortunately, the nature of the capitalism is such that the small businesses will lose every single time to big ones. At the same time, nut business is pretty niche so I guess it is possible to keep such business afloat for some time. All I pointed to is that you can sort of see why some similar little businesses are thriving and some go out of business in this particular case, the price is in the subject.
You make is sound like a charity - support little business because it is more vulnerable… This is not logical, it is not a non for profit organization.

        • running cost and supply is variable! There is not a standard for everybody to operate on. Its not always a b&w perspective! Especially with the current world situation - eg. floods in qld, etc etc.

    • +2

This must be the ozbargain community: first comment to a closing down local business is to trash them further. Then it gets +4.

Wonder why I still frequent these comments sections sometimes.

      • -1

I wonder, why is it closing down? Must have been just unlucky…

Normally any negative comment towards a deal in any shape or form gets downvoted away, this is not a typical reaction.

  • +2

    Sad news indeed :(

Put in my order for the last time it seems

    • :(

  • +5

Sorry to hear that you've had to close down. We (and family and friends) have really enjoyed your fresh and delicious macadamia nuts

    • So glad to hear that!

  • +6

TBF, macadamia nuts aren't cheap like peanuts, they always over $30kg and also depending size. Haven't said that, being a closing down sale I expect may be priced $15 for 500g with still $50 for free ship, with that, instead of buying 1.5kg, people most likely will buy 2 kg helping the owner to sell their remaining stock quickier and for customer $30/kg is good enough if quality are good. I would buy if $30/kg

  • +2

Thank you for the offer. We are sorry to hear about your closure. I have ordered two bags of lime pepper and one pack of roasted nuts. We have always enjoyed your products, which stand out from the rest. We wish you all the best.

    Best regards,
    Daniel L.

    • +1

Thank you Daniel! Very kind words.

  • +3

So sorry to hear the news. It's sad that an affordable good quality macadamia nuts company is going… One less competition
    🥲

  • First time customer. The irony.

  • Y'all were my faves, will miss you 🥺💔

    • :( thank you for the kind words!

  • Macadamia and cashew which is harder to process?

    • +1

Cashews by far, it HAS to be done by hand because the cashew apple is supremely delicate.

      • Last time I read Vietnam started to invest in machinery to reduce the labour. Not sure how it has been done so far.

  • Only four items left that can be purchased…

    • Were 5 a while ago

Edit: Now 3, raw is only option left.

    • +2

It's been a busy morning, ozB has cleaned us out of the flavoured Macadamia nuts, but plenty of raw Macadamias are still available.

  • I want chocolate coated where that at?

  • I was just on the check out but the hickory now oos :( guess its not the time

  • Who is the delivery provider?

    • AusPost

  • Can anyone confirm if this is cheaper than aldi?'s?

  • Sorry to see you go. Can the raw just be mixed with some salts and flavours to create your flavoured ones?

    • You can certainly have a go! They are great in cooking too. Check our website for a few recipes.

  • Just ordered 3 bags, thank you for providing excellent quantity nuts. Wishing you all the best for the future.

    • Many thanks!

  • -1

Just tried to order, but seems I can only add 2 bags to my cart, which doesn't reach $50 for the free shipping. I wanted to get 4 bags, oh well. Sorry, can't pay $12 for the postage for 2 bags.

    • We are down to the last pack. OzB has cleared out our entire stock again. You're welcome to try our Honey or Macadamia Oil to get free postage.

  • Sorry to hear you go, guys. I've bought a few orders from yourselves over the years. They've been tasty and great gifts for others.
All the best in your future endeavours

    • Thank you!

  • +1

Loved your plain and chocolate covered macadamias a number of times - always very good quality. Really sad to hear you’re closing, wishing you so the best for your next endeavours!

  • Oh no, out of stock

Guess this sale served its purpose

  • This is very sad to hear 🥺 Years ago a friend gifted me the honey roasted macadamia nuts and I've been hooked ever since. My family and friends also love them. I'm glad I still have four packets left and will savour them 🥲

  • So sad to see them pack up! These guys grow and process their own Macadamia nuts! Top notch quality.
