Citizen Zenshin CA4610-85Z Titanium Eco-Drive Chronograph $599 ($574 w/ Signup Bonus) Delivered @ Starbuy

330

This is the first time we've seen a Zenshin featured on OzBargain. It's definitely got a lot of Speedtimer vibes going on, but with a titanium case & bracelet and sapphire crystal it's definitely punching well above the Speedy's class. I'm liking the patterning of the orange dial which seems to help the legibility but, as always, they've had to squeeze in the date at 4:30 (hey, it's a Japanese watch manufacturer after all…we'd be surprised if it was omitted).

RRP is $1099 but street pricing seems to be hovering around the low $800 range, so $599 is pretty darn sharp IMO. Add the $25 signup bonus and you'll get a ripper deal.

There's 40+ in stock at time of posting but I reckon these are going to rocket out the door once people notice.

  • Dang, if only was the white

    • +2

I agree the white is pretty sharp but the silver & white hands compromise the legibility. I'm finding as I get older this is becoming more & more important to me.

      • Thank you for your fine insight.

cant go wrong with classic Speedtimer

      • +1

Yes better choice for most people.
The citizen is nice but integrated bracelets are a bit of a fad and restrictive. The speedtimers are absolute strap monsters 👍.

    • Hmm a titanium panda? For $500 bargain!

  • Dang, if only my wrist was thicker! Otherwise this too big for me

    • Maybe see if you can try them on somewhere?
I'm not sure really, but I agree a 40mm version would be better. Integrated bracelets tend to wear a bit big too with the end link design but you may get away with it if they drop down vertically.

I sold a prx 40mm as they felt too big.

    • If you like the style but aren't necessarily wanting a chrono there's some 39mm 3-handers available in the same colourways. See here(starbuy.com.au) for the range at SB. If Deepak or one of his staff are monitoring this page then perhaps there could be a companion deal soon??

      • I’m waiting for the green/turqoise AW0130-85M to go on sale.

I should go and try one on in the meantime.

  • Good price for what it is: a tough, light, accurate, interesting-looking watch that'll last many years. If the looks speak to you, go for it.

This integrated bracelet era isn't for me, but I'm warming a bit to Citizen on the whole.

Eco-drive, titanium and sapphire with leather strap. Was $199 recently — they sold out:

      • Nice. 42mm seems very big for a field style watch but yeah.

        • 38-39mm is good 😊
Depends if you got massive arms tho.

          • @G-rig: Yes, suitable for big units

    • +1

Agree - changing straps is half the fun of having a watch.

  • Absolute steal for this price.

  • For a moment i got excited. Wish they had the automatic version of this watch, the non chronograph

    • Like this(amazon.com.au)? Not sure if those are officially sold in AU.

  • If this were a sunburst with generic endlinks it would be a killer. Alas, its sandpaper dial texture and integrated bracelet don't hit the versatility level I am after for what would be my singular chronograph.

  • +2

IMO the date window just ruins the dial symmetry.

Who buys this these days? You can have smart watches with a classic face or get cheaper classic watches

    • +8

Not to throw shade at you for asking a genuine question but it's one of those things where if you have to ask then you probably don't get it. The wristwatch appreciation and collecting community is quite strong.

I'll have a go at a sincere answer from my personal perspective. There aren't many accessories that blokes can wear that are beauty for beauty's sake. Something pretty, intricate, nice to behold, and with an interesting story. Not that I like neckties but they used to be a common flourish of decorative colour and detail, but now only worn regularly by people in some fairly specific lines of work. Cufflinks and tie pins are worn by most guys twice a year at most.

So for anyone disappointed by the loss of beautiful little things a regular man can put on and enjoy each day, fancy watches offer a haven. Something decorative but not eccentric, with huge scope for collecting and connecting with a community. And watches let blokes cosplay as 1950s fighter pilots or 1960s rescue divers, so it gives some nice blokey cover for also cultivating a passion for something that is wearable art. Someone's uncommon watch can serve as an icebreaker between two guys who mightn't be easy conversationalists.

Personally I'm torn between the supreme logic of my $30 digital Casio and the unnecessary, fiddly beauty of my collectable mechanical watch. Today I'm wearing the pretty one and it makes me smile when I look at it.

    • @Raj09 Just scroll past, not sure if you comment on every watch thread however not everyone wants a smart watch.

Ps. I wear a Fitbit as well on other arm but it's minimal and battery lasts a week. Best of both worlds.

  • Wonder if this deal will ever come back

    • +1

Nah those were sold, was talking to Deepak back then.
      Used would be the go.

  • "Case Diameter: 45.5mm" I have a 43mm citizen chrono & its too big. Citizen is going against the trend to smaller watches.
