love the idea of these…dont love how long it will take to break these in to be comfortable… unless the new ones these days are easier?

    • +5

      break in is still brutal

      • +1

        ah beans.

        • +3

Highly recommend coating the inside with a few treatments of vaseline and a little k-y (that's what she said).

I realise that sounds like a joke, but seriously, best way to break in docs. From a flat-footed daily DM wearer since the early 90s.

    • Yeh I received mine yesterday and have been wearing them around the house to break them in before wearing them out.
Will take a little while I think, leather is quite stiff.

      • +2

i got a pair some years ago - and for me the heel was prob the worst part to try and wear in, i ended up selling them on market place.. now wondering if i should try again lol

        • +2

Scored cheaper pair on catch few months ago part of a 50% last sizes deal ‘combs’ new model so much softer no break ins needed

          • @iGrouch: I got the Combs Crazy Horse leather ones and only worn twice so far. Still a while to break in I think

        • Likewise got a pair as a present recently and while I was excited I haven't gone through with breaking them in after copping massive blisters the first couple of times

          • @Horacio: My cheap $75 pair is black not crazy horse brown so could be reason it feels different, read any 1460 especially smooth apparently takes longest soften.

    • +3

These do not take long to break in at all, not like the ones they sold 30 years ago. Back in the day we would spray WD-40 or equivalent in the heel and that would work a treat.

    • Buy second hand on fb marketplace. I got a pair for $50, broken in, plenty of life left.

    • +1

Reminds me of the 90s.. a massive pain to get off quickly after a drunken night out

The vegan leather ones don't need really any breaking in.

    • +1

Pair them with these deal, and it shall be easier

No pain, no gain, Jimothy old boy.

      • +1

Well I am a bit of a masochist

        • +1

          And I'm a bit of a sadist. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • +1

There is no gain anyway (except if you want to look like a rompa stompa).

The vegan leather ones don't need break in and pretty much just as good.

        • Vegan leather should be cheaper though? Less cost to manufacture. I also wonder about longevity. Old school thinking is to always buy leather shoes. All my non leather ones have worn out much more quickly. For kids shoes this is even more important.

          • @0 0 0: They are often on sale for less, just keep an eye out.

The soles will wear out at the same rate (and exactly the same), I had some 3 hole shoes and the quality and longevity was fine. Maybe go and look at them and try both on.

Yeah leather shoes/belt/briefcase is a very old way of thinking. Not sustainable or ethical.

Guess you can buy leather shoes for school uniforms but kids will outgrow them quickly anyway and these days comfort is more important (as well as relaxed uniforms).

Yes. The 90s lesbian goth look is finally within reach.

I was tempted to take the plunge at the discount price, but unfortunately, no discount on US13.

Any girls who wear these can just pm your phone number .

    • +2

      They are unisex boots, right?

      • +1

        yes

      • Yes my apprentice
        they’re from the dark side..

  • +2

    UK12 will be $246 ?? WTF

    • +1

Means Catch has sold out but a 3rd party seller has them available

  • Looks like no returns if they don't fit?

    • +18

      Yeh that’s the Catch

    • Will probably be OOS until I leave work and go try them in a physical store lol

  • +1

Are they hard to put on and take off? Guessing I have to unlace every time?

    • +11

Yes, these are indeed "grown up shoes". No velcro here.

    • Yes.

    • Definitely no forgiveness in the structure and lace up, you really need to commit if you want to wear these.

    • Yes, I have a pair. As I've mentioned below there are too many holes. Major inconvenience when having to remove them. Also, the laces always untangle from the knot, so it's annoying having to tie them up multiple times during the day. Would not recommend.

Many consumers aren't aware that the original Dr. Martens factory in Northamptonshire, England—often referred to as the "Made in England" line—still produces boots using traditional methods and higher-grade materials. Compared to mass-produced Dr. Martens made overseas, the UK-made versions typically offer superior craftsmanship, longer-lasting soles, and finer leather quality. While they come at a higher price point, the difference in durability and construction makes them a better long-term investment for those who value quality and heritage.

      chatgpt ahh comment

    • That’s crazy .. for an extra $100 more than Chinese RRP it’s a no brainer to buy Made in England when paying full price.

  • +4

My final pair of Doc Martins was a pair of boot which lasted all of 6 months before the sole cracked ! DR Martin has moved to China and all his stuff is sub par now.

    • I bought a pair in 2017, and have worn them most days since. They're still going strong.

So it's possible to get a good pair, but like most things outsourced, it may be a bit of a lottery.

      • Same here. Got mine a couple years ago and still wearing them almost every day. Very happy with how long they've lasted!

    • +8

if you want a better quality version of Docs, try Solovair. Made in England. They used to make Dr Martens under license.

      • And there is zero break in! The most comfortable boots i've owned from the box.

  • +1

    docs are trash now.
I have an old pair that are getting worn out. i bought a pair last year, and absolute trash quality. lasted maybe 4 months.
going to try to resole and refinish my old pair.

    • going to try to resole

      is that even possible?

      • "try" lol
i don't know, but i will try this weekend. my old used pair is better then the new garbage they sell now.

  • -1

Don't forget to pair this with a skirt and purple hair gents

  • They look heavy

  • +1

Dr Martens, Dr Martens, Dr Martens boots, Oh!
Dr Martens, Dr Martens, Dr Martens boots.

  • -1

Perfect for your next Green's political party event.

    • I've never understood why the brown pants wearing types were drawn to a shoe favoured by skinheads & natsoc larpers, worst of all made with pride in the heart of the colonial empire.

I was looking for some background on docs and stumbled across this(reddit.com), at first I thought it was a very clever troll but it's legit…my sides left the building

      • +2

the skinhead subculture split into both left and right political factions in the 1980s.

        • Think the neonazi thing is an overthink, by some. I was there in the mid 70's and skinheads took it on but all dead heads have to wear something, doesn't worry me. Wearing Doc's since the mid 70's, Elvis Costello probably made them a thing in the punk era, still love the Doc's :)

      • Triggering Romper Stomper memories for me. Need tough shoes to fight back

    • 1000 upvotes, but only if they are in vegan leather i.e. non-biodegradable Plastic.

  • Too many shoelace holes.

  • +1

Probably been said before but the OG manufacturer (NPS Solovair) still make a very similar boot handcrafted in England and Goodyear welted. They are over $200 more expensive than the DMs though, but I think this is still value for money based on the quality and how long the shoe will last you.

    https://uk.nps-solovair.com/collections/boots/products/s8-55…

    • Wow they look the same

      • +1

This manufacturer is who all those old dr marten praises were for. Yellow stitching is copy righted so that speaks volumes about the quality of the current dr martens when the main selling point is its look

        • +1

Made in England were the best quality ones..

  • No, no, no , no… must have the yellow stitch and ribbed edge.

    • +1

Disagree, better off with the higher quality product

  • Dr Klaus Märtens German doctor. Poms are very good at stealing legit or illegit. See Stuff the poms Stole(iview.abc.net.au)
Buy Solovair, instead of this now-crap.

  • -3

They don't sell them in real men sizes unfortunately

  • -2

Never understood the appeal with these

    • Yeah get something comfortable for your feet.
Punks and gothics still like them, most of those depressed adolescents wearing all black like them too.

  • +1

Damn. Order from 28 March just got cancelled and refunded.
