Using a Landline with Spintel 5g Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway Modem

Has anyone using Spintel 5g with their Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway Modem been able to successfully use their landline phone? The modem has a telephone jack, Spintel cannot confirm if the landline will work with their modem. I'm currently with Aussie NBN & my landline works well with the Aussie modem. I'd like to try 5G as it would cost less each month than my current NBN plan but I want to keep my landline phone.

  • Aussie BB charge a premium. Change to a cheaper nbn ISP and VoIP supplier.

How much are you paying for nbn?

Do you have nbn FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB, HFC or fixed wireless?

  • HFC 100/20 $95

  • Bit confused about your question, do you want to find out if Spintel supports VOIP?

    • Yes Spintel can't confirm if their 5g plans support voip. I spoke to sales & tech support. Their modem has a telephone jack.

      • Ask for model number and google it to see if its capable of VoIP?

Or buy your own viop plugin as most routers don't support VoIP these days.

        • The Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway Modem instructions state "The FastMile 5G Gateway 3 supports voice service through its telephone (TEL) port.
You can connect a device that has a cable with an RJ11 connector to the FastMile
5G Gateway 3 TEL port on supported units.
Connect the cable with an RJ11 connector to the FastMile 5G Gateway 3 TEL port
on the side of the unit and connect the other end of the cable to your device"

  • Even if the modem is capable of providing a VoIP service via the "TEL" port (and it isn't blocked in firmware), the VoIP provider may well block the VoIP service from their servers as the IP address from the 4G/5G service is foreign/blocked (common VoIP fraud security measure).

Also worth investigating - some 4G/5G modem's don't use VoIP to provide the 'TEL' service - they use the standard mobile voice service - so in this case, you can use a 'normal' mobile voice service/plan/SIM to make and receive calls (assuming not blocked in firmware), albeit to/from an 04 number.
