For those non-campers that are just curious what this does: A pure sine wave inverter will allow you to establish a dependable, high-quality power source anytime and anywhere. These handy gadgets take the DC electricity supplied by a battery or other DC source and transform it into the AC power required by your caravan, camper, RV, boat, or home

    • Why is it cheap compared a brand like victron? Is it brand tax or is victron significantly better

      • +1

Victron is seen as being an increase in quality. If you want to pay for a bit more quality than Kings, then Renogy is what I'd recommend. If you want the best of the best, then REDARC it is, but it'll hurt your wallet. Victron is a bit too middle-of-the-market for me.

If you're camping, just go for Kings. If you rely on it a bit, maybe pay for Renogy. If money is no object or it's mission critical for business and you can't have any downtime, that's the only way I could look at REDARC.

        • +1

Just a quick tip on the Renogy stuff, it's significantly cheaper in the DC Home app under Finds.
That said, I've long had a suspicion that Renogy Australasia simply repackages RTMd equipment as new, particularly their eBay 'sales'.
Nothing definite that I can point at, but I've bought enough of their equipment to have those suspicions.

        • Thanks for the response, very informative

      • One is significantly better and would last years continuously running. Inverters can make very annoying noises, especially cheap ones.

        • Thank you

        • Whilst yes, noise can be an issue, I guess it depends on where you are using it. My older Kings 3000W inverter just has a noisy fan but I don't hear it when driving since it is the canopy. When stopped, yes you do hear it but it isn't annoying or anything. It just sounds like a desktop computer. If you had it in a caravan, yeah, might be annoying. When the canopy is open and ventilation is good, its fan doesn't come on very much unless under a huge load.

      • Victrons quality is better and pretty more all their hardware has bluetooth monitoring plus Cerbo connections for a main control (similar to what REDARC offers).

My view is, if you are using something all the time and doing a trip around Aus, you would spend extra on Victron or REDARC, personally I would do Victron. If you are doing it for every now and then for the weekend away, Kings is fine and if you choose the right product, you often get good warranties with Kings.

  • would this have been handy during QLD Cyclone Alfred ?

Assuming i could just plug this into the cigarette lighter socket (or battery terminal) of my EV car. It was fully charged but it didn't have a 240v outlet for me to plug my home appliances into during the 5 days of no power due to the cyclone.

    • Maybe consider getting a v2l adapter if your ev supports

    • Usually cant pull 3000W from your cigarette adapter… It would have to be V2L supported EV.

That means if its a Tesla you're outta luck.

      • +4

"Usually" is an understatement. 3000W at 12v is 250a which is (checks notes) a metric shit-tonne.
Most cigarette adapters are rated to 10a at best (120W), and that is often for the entire circuit.

Definitely going to need that V2L support for anything 'factory'.

    • Yes, I had the 1500W during a 10 day outage. Kept all my electronics charged and the fridge running. I sold that vehicle though. This 3000W, in my new vehicle, will allow me to cook more and even use the washing machine.

As @Jimothy Wongingtons said, V2L would make a lot more sense if your EV supports it, though. What model do you have? I might be able to point you in the right direction.

    • Youll need to connect to battery directly or even a bigger battery, cigarette lighters are usually ~300w maximum

  • Not sure to pull the trigger. Got 1200/2400 pure sine. Only thing cannot run coffee or portable aircon. This should be fine if rating correct.

    • I bought this 3000w recently and have only tested it, setup a vacuum cleaner with power passthrough with a D13 drill running and a sandwich toaster . All of that was ~2500W-3000.
      Ran fine.

      • +1

Sounds promising. Arghhh. Do i need it though as first world problems just to be able to run portable aircon and coffee machine. Would be good with especially portable aircon. Could use it in the shed using solar. Got 300ah batteries and 500w solar. So should take edge of at daytime a few hours if there

    • +1

Plenty of thermoblock espresso machines run under 1200w, hitting 2000w only briefly and there are camping portable air cons that pull max 700w. The kickass one does 400w from memory.

  • I paid $282.19 for the equivalent Renogy one. I woulda snapped this up instead if it was for sale at the time

    • +1

Where'd you get that deal from? I got their 3000W (liked the UPS function it has over the others) but was about $50 more than your price.

      • +2

got it on ebay during their 20% (or 22% for ebay plus) sale

  • +2

I know this might be obvious but if you're actually going to use this at its rated output (3kW), you're looking at 250 amps (!!) of draw.
For comparison, the Kings 100ah lithium battery can only sustain 100 amps. You'd want three in parallel to run this.

Personally at these power levels I'd go with a 24V system.

    • True, but even if you do have only one 100Ah battery, that can still peak up to 400A. A lot of appliances only draw <1500W consistently but spike up to 3000W, which is where this can come in handy. Or, as you said, more batteries, e.g. in a caravan.

      • +1

Depends on the battery technology, but the Kings 100Ah lithium peaks at 200A.

        • +1

          You're right, I must've been tired when I wrote 400A

  • +2

And people pay $700+ for ~1000w ones in a fancy box…

    • +1

Because they advertise on a 4x4 youtube channel….

  • I've got the older model and its been rock solid. I haven't used it for powering big hug things, but its been good for powering Starlink (via a UPS), Mini PC plus other things like charging batteries and other devices whilst on the go. I have used the kettle every now.

I had it running on a 100Ah AGM and it wasn't that good, I make it 200Ah AGM in Parrall and it was heaps better.

I am upgrading my system to complete Victron and a 300Ah Kings, more for a nerdy element and some business R&D. With the extra/spare equipment, I might add it into my Caravan, but not sure yet.

  • Expired. In a way good for me lol. Was gonna go for a drive today and grab one.

    • Wait a few days, it'll drop again. I waited a few days and got the 300Ah Battery Deal.

      • +1

Yeah they usually do a circle. Don't really need one though. Got a 1200w already. Just this would be great to be able to run portable aircon if power goes. Got 3 100ah lifepo4 in parallell so should've worked. 1200/2400 too weak for when compressor kicks in. At least would be able to run few hours.

Kings drops regularly, but syncing the Kings price drops with decent eBay codes can be a bit trickier.

        • Kings drops regularly

          I know, I run PriceWatcher 😉

but syncing the Kings price drops with decent eBay codes can be a bit trickier.

100%, couldn't agree more. Its eBay wide, hard to know what works for what products but you can get some ripper deals when you know what works.

  • +1

These are back again. Just ordered one. eBay and code worked.

    • So much for "in a good way", eh? 😉

      • Haha, yeah. Gosh they are big suckers. Gonna try it on portable aircon shortly.

        • +2

Worked fine. Success. Installed it in the shed now and extension lead to inside if power goes.
This worked using one 100ah lifepo4. The draw was around 800-900w and no problem. Fan didn't even kick in. Had it on half hour. Now it's hooked up to 300ah (parallell) and 500w solar to top up a bit during the day.
