Wotif Flights Seat Selection

Has anyone ever booked flights through wotif.com and seat selection is not available and has be purchased separately through the airline?

I am looking at flying with Thai Airways and the tickets say that seats can be purchased separately through Thai Airways after purchasing the tickets through Wotif, but I'm worried that it won't be possible as I have rung the actual airline and they said you can't purchase seats separately and I will be assigned one randomly on check in. Wotif insists that seats can be purchased through Thai Airways after purchasing the tickets through Wotif.

So I don't know who to believe.

I'm travelling with my family and would like the security of knowing that we would be seated all together.

The price difference between purchasing through Wotif and through Thai Airways directly is more than $2000.

Chargeback if this is a lie.

I don't speak from specific experience for your example, In most cases, you can enter in your booking reference number that Wotif will provide you into the Manage booking section of Thai Airways website and select your seat there. That's how it usually how the process works when you book flights with third partis.

    • I agree similar experience with Expedia + Air India booking, use booking reference number to manage booking

I would save yourself the hassle and just book direct with the airline - if something changes with your flights, you're better off not having a third party that ends up in a circular blame game.

Sounds suspicious. Is Wotif the travel agent, or is it through someone else?

    • It is directly through Wotif.

It's common to get significant discounts through online travel agents.

      • And it's common for no-name travel agents to be difficult to work with…

        • Fortunately for OP, Expedia, owner of Wotif, is not a no-name travel agent. With a market cap of US$22B, it is worth more than Coles.

  • I'm travelling with my family

It's okay… you will all arrive at the same place at the same time.

    • My family…meaning three young kids.

  • I have never booked air tickets through Wotif and this is a long shot, but any chance they tell you what class/category the tickets are before you purchase? If so, you might be able to confirm on the Thai Airways website or airline forums what that category actually includes.

Has anyone ever booked flights through wotif.com

    Not me.

  • If worst comes to worst, you'll be allocated seats together at check-in so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

However, once you get the PNR, plug that into Thai's site and you should be able to select seats from there (they only charge for 'preferred' seating.

Note though that Thai's planes are generally 3-3-3 so at least one child will be on their own unless there are two adults travelling.

Not if seats have already been allocated.

  • I can't speak for Wotif, but I recently purchased Thai tickets via booking.com. Certainly was then able to select seats (for free) after booking via the Thai website.
