  • Can vouch for these, have two installed:

Though faults are never great, the warranty is great, i had one rear camera 'die' - they sent out a new camera and cable. Ended up being a damaged cable.

  • Have not had to buy a dash cam in a while, is this the new favourite budget option? I used to go with the A129.

    • you used to have A129 and then it broke and haven't used it?

      • Where did I say it broke?

        • you said "used to go" so just assuming it broke or you changed it coz it sounds like you dont have it anymore else you would've said "I still have my A129" ?

@prankster: Oh I just have a lot of cars, have not bought one in a while so haven't needed to keep an eye on the market, but new daily driver arrived a few months ago and I am due to put one into that.

Trying the codes, keeps saying can't meet the minimum? Wanting the front/rear cam only - no kits

    • +1

I had a similar problem too.
Later the system worked when I applied only AUAS20 because it's not above a certain amount. In other words, you need to be above a certain amount for the other code AUAS40 to work

  • Nevermind. Didn't have enough. Added 2 filters

  • If anyone needs a recommendation for dash cam to install, i can refer you to the guy i used.
He is in sydney and he does this as a side gig, does it for $150 and i've referred lots of people from ozB to him (found him on ozB from someone so yeah lol)

    • $150 is a new dash cam already lol. People might as well learn how to install a dash, than pay the service of what's essentially a new dash cam.

      • +1

yes but because i'm getting the hardwire kit installed etc - Im happy to pay someone that does this over than me trying to do it FYI
yes people can learn to do it by themselves thats fine, it'll save paying someone to do it but others might not be comfortable doing it and i'm just referring someone because I think other people would try to rip you off and charge you more than $150

        • Dashcam installation is definitely not hard and DIY-able, just takes time if you're comfotable - but paying someone doesn't necessarily mean its done properly either, you should verify their installation method. Installing the hardwire kit is quite straightforward, but it's moreso how the wires are ran throughout the car, that ensures you or your passengers safety - I've seen so many examples of Sydney installers (and youtube tutorials) who simply tuck the wires in the door seals and across the a-pillars, which is quick but not the proper way.

@idd: What is the proper way?

Will he do after-market 360 panaroma cams too?
The subtle ones with camera under the side mirrors.

      example. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005576547361.html

When travelling in Malaysia about 2 years ago, many cars had those installed instead of just Front/Back.

      • not sure, dm me and i can give you contact number and you ask him? - i expect 360 might cost more for install but no harm in asking

With Dashcams, it's the one device you have to go 'Toyota mode' in thinking. You stay away from 'the latest and greatest with more and more new features'. With Dashcams because it is an ultra critical item for which you bought it (It has to be 100% functional 100% of the time) thus you want to buy a model that was released 12 months ago and has had time to be rigorously tested by the dashcam community and all issues have been ironed out. Even Viofo's new models come with a ton of FW updates and also 'silent' hardware revisions in the first 12 months of release as they start getting feedback from 10's of thousands of early adopters to quickly fix buggy issues. This Viofo A229 Plus model has been given the green light by the dashcam community to be rock solid, it is roughly around 15 months old now which is exactly what you want.

  • Thanks OP - finally pulled the trigger and got the 2CH with hardwire kit and lenses

  • There are too many listings for this camera on the website. How do you guys click through cashrewards and choose the right listing? Is there a easy way?

  • I have an old VIOFO for a few years - not sure which model but I assume A129.

Can the hard kit for A229 plus be used for mine ?
Family has the A229 kit but doesn’t want to hardwire it .

    Thanks

    • +2

No, A229 uses USB-C, A129 uses mini USB.

      • Thanks ! Luckily checked before hiring someone to wire it

  • Anyone know what SD card you get if you just choose the option on the AliExpress listing?

Under the type of camera you want it has options of different sizes of SD card but doesn't say what brand/type

Edit - it's there in the description. Seems to be the Viofo branded card.

    • The Viofo branded cards are possibly rebranded SanDisk Max Endurance cards.

Because it is the only card they recommend. Viofo doesn't make memory cards, so they have to test a bunch of cards and then get someone to manufacture to the same specifications. So makes sense to partner with SanDisk.

It's such a guarded secret, no body knows for sure, at least not discussed online, or no body cares.

Any installer recommendations in or around Brisbane?

The AUAS40 discount code has been used too many times now and will no longer work. The AUAS20 code still works.

  • +2

save 40 only to be hit with equal amount gst

    • Crazy right! Does the Australian government even see any of that?

      • Geeweez that's a rabbit hole you'll never come out of once you start looking into it

  • I have this. My ONLY gripe is that it'll randomly think that it has detected an impact and will save the video. Makes me wonder if it will save a video if I do have an accident.

    • That's been on my mind 😄.

  • which is the best cashback platform for this?

  • thanks, OP!

I paid AU$256.71 (USD$160.7) for the set with front + rear + hardwire kit using code CASHRE5.

    • Did you pay in AUD or USD?

      • USD. I'm using Up bank

  • How do you get the A$263 price? Im getting hit with gst which brings mine to 279. Im trying to get the 2k + rear + hw kit.

  • Is there a feature/schedule to turn on parking mode, like only weekdays or between x to x hours? Or some sort of geolocation? Wife parks in public car park during weekdays for around 9 hours. I just want the parking mode during that time. At home it's in garage and hardly used for 2 days so don't want to drain the battery.

How do you guys manage something like this.

  • I have this dashcam with the hardwire kit and it has developed a screen flickering issue. After googling, it seems that there are others experiencing the same issue. Here is one reddit thread I found https://www.reddit.com/r/VIOFO/comments/1d1ufzh/a229_plus_sc…

I bought it from Viofo Australia website and have contacted support. They have replied with the following troubleshooting steps:
    - Please use the original car charger to power the dash cam
    - Please unplug the rear cable from the main unit and test the front cam without the rear cam
    - Please advise what SD card you are using. Please turn off the dash cam to remove the SD card first and then power it on again to see if the issue still persists without the SD card
    - Please hard reset the cam via the reset hole on the side of the cam

The issue is intermittent so just trying to work through those steps.

Otherwise, it seems to still function and I can still access the settings through the app. Just can't do anything on the dashcam itself while the screen is flickering.

    • Mine is having similar problem plus connection issue with the rear camera. Lots of issues for this particular model. Got the Pro for the other car no issues at all.
