Small number of reviews but most not that good. https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/safewill

    • OMG, thanks for sharing Kizashi, the reviews are terrible. I will avoid the drama with these guys.

      • Most of the bad reviews has to do with customer service and paying money for the service. But this is free so don't expect customer service.

        • How about wanting to charge for a service that was supposed to be free, see:

"Received an email to say that my $15 had not gone through along with a request to update my payment details. I did not provide any details as the service I was lead to believe I was testing a free service. "

          and another:

"Stay Clear – Sent me an email to say that my $15 had not gone through along with a request to update my payment details. I did not provide any details as the service was supposed to be free."

    • You were very kind with your observation.

Basically, all the reviews are poor, apart from the very first review that is looks very sock-puppetish and in complete contrast to every other review, awards 5 stars.

    FREE WILLS WEEK (March 17-31)

    That's a fortnight.

  • During free wills weeks, are there other free will services apart from this one?

I got an offer of this though my Super fund with these guys. Pretty good service and easy to navigate website but please be aware that there are fees - such as a subscription fee if you want to be able to change your will anytime, otherwise there is a different fee to make a one off adjustment if your circumstances change. There are also a bunch of add on options too, all of which attract a fee.

Obviously a lawyer would charge you too - but once you take these other fees into consideration it's not as such a good of a deal as it sounds.. certainly not 'free'.

    • It looks like we need a royal commission into legal firms now.

I highly recommend using Gruber & Fisk. Helen was very passionate and caring.

    • +1

      Pretty sure Gruber got cancelled/fired

      • Was last seen falling from Nakatomi Plaza at high speed. Out of those two I'd go with 'fired'.

    • Not sure how Matt Murdock feels about this

    • Excellent office and staff there also

I did this a year ago and it all looks fine (I have a straight forward one). I had forgotten that there is a $15 per year fee if you want to keep the ability to modify it. You can cancel that any time and you still have the will, but if you subsequently want to be able to modify it, then it costs $80.

They will also offer you discounts on extra services which may be worthwhile, but they aren't bad spammers. All up I got maybe half a dozen emails.

  • John Stuart Mill approves!

There is free will after all.

  • My parents did their wills via an online service. I thought it didnt sound correct so took them to get legal advice. - The Lawyer pointed out several sections where the wording was so bad that it left it completely contestable and effectively disinherited some of the family.

    • +2

Every will is contestable no matter what you put in it.

SafeWill are great for basic wills, I've used their service and helped others use it. Not sure its worth paying for it, but in any given year when they offer it for free you can use it and keep that will for a number of years or until your circumstances change.

You can either pay to update it after the first year or just create a new account when they offer it for free again, or consider paying for a different service at that time.

isn't it bad luck to talk about death?

    • +2

It might be… but it is definitely bad luck to die without a will.
