Does anyone have any issues installing Win7 x48 on this machine? I am not new at putting together a PC or installing Win7 but I tried installing it 7 times without success. It failed at various stages with different errors. Its either BSODs or randomly robooting/restarting. I ran memtest for 12 hours and passed without errors. I ran chkdsk and HDD seems ok. I rang Vision Tech and they offered to install the OS for me (for a fee I think) but I live quite far from them. So does anyone who bought this machine experience the same?

Have you tried changing between AHCI and IDE mode in the BIOS to see if that might be an issue?
Tried both. AHCI is actually snappier than IDE.
I think your problem is you're trying to install version Win7 x48 which doesn't exist.
Are you try to do x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit)? Maybe the processor/MB/RAM doesn't do 64-bit?
Me bad, its Win7 for 32bit.
What media are you using to install win7? i would start off with changing what media you are using to install it with (ie if its a USB key, use another key or use a disc) If thats no good, i would memtest/change out the ram, its a common thing for BSOD's to be ram related when doing OS installs.
I used 3 different DVDs and ran memtest for about 10hours 13 passes with no errors. I am going to run WD's disk diagnostic dos tool tonite to see if the HDD is faulty.
Three original discs or three burned from an ISO? If the latter, compare the MD5/SHA1 hash on the ISO with something like md5summer, against what's posted online; and then use a verify function (such as ImgBurn's) when burning.
It's probably not that, because it'd be too easy, but gotta rule it out :)
I always do a hash check and all 3 from different sources.
Ran WD native low level diagnostic and all checked out ok. I am running out of options.
Use 64-bit. 32 is obsolete. Everyone really should use 64-bit and have 8GB RAM. This isn't 1995. The disc might be damaged.
Exactly. 32gb of RAM here. There's pretty much no limit to it's usefulness. Even 32bit programs can mostly be registry changed to use 4 gb of RAM.
Web browser coders are complacent to 64bit though.
Complacent? Me no understand. Did you intend another word?
+1 on try new install media.
Borrow a 64bit disk and use your 32bit key to register.
I am giving up. Will send it back to VisionTech for testing :-(
Exact same thing happened to me…twice. Its their ram. Its faulty.
If you have the H67M motherboard, do not install PCI drivers. That screws everything up too
My mobo is ECS H61H2-M17. I took it back to VisionTech for testing.
I ran memtest for more than 10hours and RAM seems fine.
I did the same thing. Its not a perfect test- try changing the ram. I had to change it twice with them- then bought a new one from a different store and things were perfect
Thanks for the heads-up. I will wait for their feedback and see what is what.
You are right about the RAM. It is faulty and they replaced it. Weird that I ran the latest memtest86+ v4.2 for half a day and all checked out ok.
OP, how about a BIOS update? Download the BIOS using another computer and then use the Flash bios using USB stick feature found in UEFI.
Here is the listing
http://www.ecs.com.tw/extra/windows_8_support/intel_win8_bio…I didn't check if there is a latest BIOS because I wouldn't have updated it even if there is a newer one. Should be able to install Win7 with stock BIOS and avoiding risk of bricking the BIOS in case I need to return the machine.
All resolved. VisionTech replaced the faulty memory and the machine has been running fine for over 24 hours. Happy customer.
You should have built one yourself. What errors and what stages did it fail?
