Hi guys and gals,
I've purchased a second hand bull bar and a new fitting kit, I'm having it installed by a professional workshop.
Is this something I need to let my insurance company know about?
Thanks!

I doubt the OP sought the approval of their airbags
Not for their bull bar, either.
will there be enough space in the back of the ute for for the bulls? won't you need a liquor licence as well?
Bull bars have air bags?
Itβs an ARB bull bar and fitting kit specifically designed for my model ute.
When you take out insurance, they ask you about any 3rd party, after market accessories. If you add something later, suggest checking clauses in your insurance PDS for guidance on how to proceed.
What happens if your bull bar falls off, gets stuck on an overturned root when poaching staghorns from protected areas, some muppet unsuccessfully tries to steal it leaving it half on/half off - causing damage to the main part of the Ute?
Still covered by insurance even though bull bar caused damage to car as opposed to a non helmet wearing motorcyclists or vision impaired person on a zebra crossing?
My aftermarket surf ski racks aren't covered if they do any of that even when I specified them. Specifically excluded salt water damage too from where water drains out of bunghole over windscreen.
Check your PDS. Mine says if I make a misrepresentation or fail to advise of any changes they can cancel my policy.
Thanks, will do ππ»
do I need to let my insurance company know?
ask them…
JV , "you've done it again".
Where the hell have you been hiding βοΈ
π€£
Is JV a them /they now ?
Yes, you should let them know because the vehicle has been modified and may void your insurance if you do not declare it then having an accident.
Just like adding a canopy, you should let them know.
If you want the bullbar covered, tell your insurance company.
If there is an possibility that the insurance company could say the damage you want them to repair was caused because the bullbar was fitted, and would not have occurred if it wasn't, tell your insurance company.
If the bull bar could be a factor in injuring a pedestrian I'd probably tell them now so you can say later you already told them.
Your comprehensive car insurance does not cover personal injury to pedestrians so that is irrelevant advice.
But the marks and dents you leave on that pedestrian as you mow them down with your bull bar are usually quite condemning because they're easy to identify and match.
Short answer: yes. Slightly longer answer: contact your insurer and ask them if it needs noting on the policy.
You should let them know, yes. Most insurers state in the PDS by entering into a contract with them; you must advise if any non-standard accessories or factory options are added to the vehicle during the term of the policy, if not already mentioned to them at the time.
Not only will this ensure a smoother process at claims time but by not telling them you may not be able to claim at all if the contract is void. It also means the value of what your vehicle is insured for would be more accurate and therefore replaced or paid out.
A good question for…… Your Insurance Company.
i laugh when i see holden and ford utes with bull bars it looks so weird all that weight over the nose and nothing over the back its funny as, bull bars really should be on 4wd and on outback cars… not really for a sytleside ute. hope your ready for the laughs at your ute, anyways yes inc it on your insurance asap
Where does it say the OPs ute is not a 4WD?
he said ute… utes are the sedan shaped low front car with a tray in back, you know holden and ford utes… anything high up jacked up is a 4wd.
this is a ute https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Ute and these are 4wd https://tinyurl.com/kz2x5ua3
@geekcohen: i dont know when people started calling huge large jacked up cars utes… they are 4wd with a tray, a ute is a single cabin 2/3 seats style side with a tray or flat tray like the ford and holden one tonners.
It's a 4WD you pedantic Prima Donna lol
see someone else agrees
Before and after pics or it didn't happen.
Yes, because I feel the need to justify myself to some dork on the internet lol
Are you going to put a winch on it? How about those holes to put fishing rods in?
Best use yet though, some big ass swivel led lumens spotlights so it's so much more fun for the Boy Scouts when playing spotlight at jamboree.
I'd like to do a winch, but I'll have to wait for a good deal to come up on Facebook Marketplace.
My main reason for getting it is that I like to go out on long trips through the outback regularly, and I'm concerned about hitting a roo (or some other animal) and it disabling the vehicle.
Lights sounds like a good thing to do in not too long from now.
I'm concerned about hitting a roo (or some other animal) and it disabling the vehicle.
Yep, been there and done that and it was only 8am in the morning! It did result in disabling mine. Didn't have it for 3 very long months. I regret not getting a Bullbar when I first bought it because it wouldn't have done hardly a thing. Definitely will be getting on the next 4WD ute. I have since installed a Shuroo which as a bit of a pre-caution.
Holy shit. That's the exact type of scenario I'm trying to avoid. I've been lucky for a while, but I'm not relying on luck any more.
Glad you turned out okay.
@dna level c: Yeah, I have travelled that road so many times over the 10 years and never had an issue. The ute did well and it was like a speed bump, but with all the sensors, it was not drivable, and it then wouldn't start (found out the battery exploded on impact).
So I am okay, just was not ideal without it for 3 months. But yes, a bullbar most likely would've avoided the whole thing.
Was travelling back from out West in an old landcruiser.hit a roo. He got caught up in the front grill and there he stayed, for nights and days, and he cooked.
Had to keep driving like that until we came to a town with a water tap.
Jeez that smelled bad.
Glad it's still well before lunch time, that sounds awful
If you want it covered in the event of an accident then yes as it's an aftermarket accessory.
If you don't want it repaired/replaced in the event of an accident then no.
Is it an airbag approved bull bar for your car?
