Reliable ANC Bluetooth Headphones for My Son on The Spectrum (ASD+ADHD)

Looking for a pair of bluetooth headphones for my son after his last pair failed at the 13 month mark even though he only used them once a week for a few hours on average. (They were the typical cheapo ones he got as a prise from the school colour run fundraiser)

Personally I use Sony WH1000XM4's and find them fantastic, but probably a little to expensive to buy him a pair

I've gotten a $150 Prezzee gift card which I'm happy to use for getting him a pair, i just dont know what there is at that price point that is actually decent from both an anc perspective as well as a build quality perspective

but probably a little to expensive to buy him a pair

but not too expensive for you ???

    • You don't have kids? We love them, but tech does not last as long. When you have to amortise over a much shorter period, the equation changes.

that said, I regret buying Sony - they are not discernibly better than the cheap ones I got for the kids.

I bought my son some Anker Soundcore Q20i and he loves them. Seem pretty well built for the money. There's heaps of models on sale at Amazon at the moment, so just take your pick depending on how much you want to spend i guess.

+1 for the options on Amazon. Especially SoundPeats, 70% of the Sony at less than 30% of the price.

    Have a look at RTings

Their mid-range recommendation Q45 is currently $160, but I can see it drops down to $150 regularly if you can wait a few days/weeks.

Or just browse through all the reviews at the bottom and focus on the ratings that matter to your son.
Most people on the spectrum really care more about the "feel"/comfort of the headphones than the actual performance - perhaps just take him to a few stores and try them out in person.

In Australia we have strong consumer protection laws, if the headphones break within the first couple years you can try to get them replaced. Amazon is usually pretty good with replacements/refunds, same with JB Hifi.

Anker is good - others suggested the Q20 but there is a slightly upgraded Q30 which is also worth looking at, or the Q45 which is currently at $160 (although not sure if you can get that price using Prezzee)

another highly rated one is the 1MORE SonoFlow Active Noise

Between those options you should be fine.

  • My kids used to go through headsets weekly to monthly (cheap Kmart / Target / Amazon ones) :/

The Anker Soundcores have lasted 6 months already and are often on sale!

  • Just picked up a pair of UGREEN HiTune Max5C for about $50aud on AliExpress and they have been great. Had them only about 2 months so far, but quality is excellent for the price, great battery life. Definitely worth a look, similar to the Anker Soundcore ones mentioned but cheaper.

  • Nothing Ear

    • these all seem to be earbuds…. am i missing something?

      • Sorry, I got it wrong. Didn’t register the part about headphones.

  • Anker Soundcore.

Not the best ANC, but still good value.

  • Soundcore or 1More.

those are the best budget performing ANC headphones.

both posted on ozb regularly, but Soundcore now not so often, 1More is now posted more regularly.

    • forgot to add,

overall Soundcore has better ANC, 1More has better sound quality.

      • Thanks, ANC is the priority
