Blackout yesterday, popped one in each room and after 4 hours they were down to 3/4 bars.

    Handy light.
Also magnetic so if you have a garden shed you can bang it on the roof.

USB powered devices are real handy during blackouts 👍

They are battery powered, with a usb connector for recharging… are you hoping for some sort of nuclear powered torches?

Power banks will power USB devices and very handy in blackouts.

          There's a reason why I don't say "battery powered devices", Mr. I-came-here-to-argue-about-semantics.

How many electrical/electronic devices do you own that comes with user-replaceable batteries around the house? And how practical is it to hunt for and replace batteries during a blackout?

I don't even keep spare batteries around anymore because I power most of my emergency devices through USB with powerbanks, hence "USB powered devices".

          • @anonym: But for emergencies or blackouts i think battery powered is better? What if your powerbank run out…

            • @CyberMurning: Are you saying that batteries will never run out during an emergency or blackout?

              • @anonym: But you can buy a lot of them… but no electricity no charging..

                • @CyberMurning: A lot of them indeed. If you intend to rely on batteries you'd need a stock of AAs, AAAs, and maybe a number of other batteries with proprietary connectors / form factors, etc…

And you'd still need to have power banks anyway to charge your mobile phone and maybe power your laptop / gaming handheld / mini PC through USB, because guess what? They don't usually come with user replaceable batteries anymore.

I carry multiple power banks and I cycle through them regularly to ensure there is always some charge available in case of emergencies.

@anonym: Sorry, it seems we are actually in agreement. What you said seemed so obvious that I thought it went without saying, and thus I (and others it seems) assumed you were being sarcastic, and/or hadn't realised the torches had batteries.

Nice torch. Small, sturdy, and well made. Lasts quite a while on the lowest setting. Good for camping and blackouts, as well as for blinding people who forget it's on the highest setting when turning it back on.

  • Bought one last time around - mainly stays above my workbench but easily transportable.
