Beijing Capital Air Return: Nanking Ex MEL $397/SYD $422, Beijing Ex MEL $443, Xi'an $452, Ex SYD $431 [Mar-Jun] @ BTF

Half the price of many other airlines, this is one of the cheapest ways of getting to China I've ever seen. Add in more city examples below (and others) and you're in to win.

Flights are with Beijing Capital Airlines, whose parent company is the more well known Hainan Airlines. On some dates slightly cheaper flights will actually show up as they're partly on Hainan Airlines, so if you see that, it's arguably even better!

Can also see some solid hotel discounts.

Not a huge array of dates, mostly in March but seeing some up to and including June.

Summary of Examples:
Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Beijing (18 Mar - 30 Jun) from $443 return

  • is this a full service airline?

    • +1

Yes, but I would say it's on the borderline between full service and discount airline. My mother and sister flew 4 legs with them in the last three weeks from Europe.

They provide hot food, but only twice during a 8-10h flight, not much of snacks in-between.
All (or most) entertainment onboard is in Chinese.
Some itineraries require to collect and re-checkin bags during the layover.
However, they provided a complimentary airport hotel for a 17h stop in Qingdao after we emailed them.

I would definitely fly with them if the price was right. :-)

That's standard isn't it to provide hot food twice in 8-10 hrs flight.

        • +1

          Looks like you are correct!

      • sir, you are looking for the buffet airline.

      • However, they provided a complimentary airport hotel for a 17h stop in Qingdao after we emailed them.

If you don't ask, you don't get free airport hotel stay?

What wording did you use in your email?

        • +2

Likely, you won't get anything if you don't ask. For me this has been the case with other STPC hotels I've booked (Emirates & Air China).

To request the hotel, we sent the email to: [email protected]

          Dear Beijing Capital Airlines
We are travelling with your airline to Sydney and on the way back there is a 18 hours layover in Qingdao.
Could you please let me know if a complimentary hotel can be provided by your airline for this layover? That would be very appreciated by us.
*** flights' and passengers' details here plus the booking number and ticket numbers ***

Then they asked for my mobile phone number and a few hours later the hotel emailed me a PDF with the booking.
There was no food provided by the hotel but that's OK.

Note that the flights were booked through a third-party agency, and we didn't involve the agency into this.

  • there's a cheaper airline than Hainan!?

    • they are owned by Hainan lol
