I purchased a newer version of this backpack (the Inateck 42L) last August after looking at the comments of this deal, and it has served me well for the past 6 months. Build quality is extremely solid - been using it to carry loads of up to 15kg on a weekly basis and it has yet to show any signs of wear and tear.

Noticed a double discount on the Inateck 40L (discount + coupon) and thought someone might be interested. Price matches previous ATL per Camelx3.

42L one also has discount. About $83.

Is 40L better or 42L version?

    • +11

      40L is 1.6kg and the 42L is 1.1kg

The 40L says its waterproof whilst the 42L is only water resistant, I have the 42L and its does get soaked in rain (so even water resistant is stretching it).
As mostly carry on will be restricted to 7kg on most LCC airlines, I'll rather have the lighter bag

      • The 40L is NOT waterproof by itself, but it comes with a waterproof rain cover to protect the bag.
Now I don't know if the 42L bag has a waterproof rain cover as well, but I might consider buying the 42L if it has the rain cover.

I have both. They are both really good quality. 42L is much better for travel. There is only 1 compartment but it is deeper and allows you to put more in. There is also a back pocket that can fit a large laptop. 40L has 2 sections. They are both shallow and isnt good for travel. Both bags are too big to use as a regular office/laptop bag.

  • Good backpack. Used it for a few short one bag trips. Structure is a bit soft and the support straps don't provide much weight bearing, so your shoulders take most of the weight. Other than that it's great. Holds lots of weight, has decent extra storage pockets including a great hidden passport pocket.

Only reason I stopped using it is 'cause I upgraded to the Tomtoc 40L.

  • I have the 42L as well. It's a great bag and fits a deceptively large amount due to opening completely as a single compartment.

Other bags with lots of sub compartments and pockets sacrifice a lot of usable space.

It's also a lot lighter than comparably priced carry-on suitcases.

up to 15kg… it has yet to show any signs of wear and tear.

The bag maybe okay but your back hip and knee will show wear and tear earlier than average people…

Is this good for office use?

    • Do you need to carry 40L worth of stuff to the office?

Might be a bit big for a daily. 40L to me is a weekend/overnight travel bag. I go 20L for office/daily carry.

      • Use the Tomtoc T66 as my EDC because sometimes I stop at the supermarket on the way home or need to picked a pack of extra large puppy pads, or a couple of routers. Can use the compression straps when your only carrying a bit. Probably overkill and I've just ordered a 20l bag to see how that goes…

  • For those shopping around, I have the Tomtoc backpack linked in the post OP referred to and I love it. So far I’ve taken it on two one-bag trips to four different countries and it’s been great.
I also use it as my daily work bag in Aus. It has a laptop compartment and I can tie down the compression straps if I’m not carrying much else to make it more compact. I often use it to carry groceries on the way home from the train station as well.

    Is Inateck a good brand?

    • I have a different version of the travel backpack and I’m very happy with the quality of the bag. It’s built well.

FYI if you are under 1.8m this bag looks huge on your back, it's shape is very rectangular and sticks out quite a bit

Spend extra $45 and get the Tomtoc?

    • I have the tomtoc and it's great. It's been on sale at around 80-90 in the past.

    • Any particular model/size of the Tomtoc you would recommend? Thanks.

I've had the Tomtoc sling bag for a few years now and it's been fantastic, goes with me everywhere including several overseas trips and fits everything I need for a day out - gopro/wallet/phone etc..

      • There's the “old" T66 and the "new" T67 available on Amazon. Pretty much the same bag with a few new changes. I have the T66 and given the "uogrades“ I think I still prefer this model to the new model.

  • I used this on a 3.5 month trip through Europe staying in hostels. Did me fine travelling light, would recommend

  • bag volume calculations are mess in this space, actual dimensions peg this at 33.6L for what it's worth

The tomtoc has been tested to be 35L~

    • They've just released the successor to the T66, the T67 and even though they have the same measurements the new one is listed as 38 litres…

  • Aer TP3 or nothing bruv

  • new to the backpack scene, is this good for day to day travel like for uni or work on public transport?
Mainly holding laptop, chargers, water, umbrella, stationery.
    Any recommendations?

    • I would just get one of those cheap Dell backpacks that get listed here for that. This is too big

  • Excellent bag for travel and work trips.

  • Thanks OP, picked up the 42L. I already have thr tomtoc which has been flawless. Have kids that are growing so it'll be good for dad / son trips 👍

This one or Caribee which is on sale in Anaconda? https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/packs-bags/tra…

    • I've had one of these for years and it's been a great companion for cheap carry-on only air travel, but its pretty shapeless and not very comfortable or ergonomic to wear as a backpack.

ive also got an osprey porter 46 which is far better overall than the caribee but also quite a bit more $$$

  • Not showing a coupon for me

  • Coupon no longer showing.

  • Cheers! Got the 42L version instead.
