No compressions straps which is a bit of a red flag for me… If you only half fill it (intending to return with more stuff say), your stuff will be "tumbling around".

    • yes from photos that is cheapo type of shoulder straps

    • +2

It's got compartments, so if you were doing a half fill, you'd fill just 1 or 2 of the 3 main areas.

    • Sorry dumb question, what are compression straps?

      • +1

The two horizontal straps up front are compression straps. Tighten to compress/reduce free air allowing for a more compact bag and to keep things from jostling around.

        • Cool, I've never had a bag with those! Appreciate the link too.

I would highly recommend this bag, I have had this bag for over 18months now and still in very good condition, I use it for travelling all the time and not once have I ever been asked about the size or any problem when fitting it in the overhead apartment (even when completely full).

    • +2

      I second this.

Max size for overhead and fits heaps.

Great for suburban travel, not ideal for more extreme outdoor backpacking.

      It is very light too.

Was far cheaper than the osprey and looks better imo.

Only downside if you get this REALLY heavy, which you should for carry on, then it does 'bulge'.

  • I am looking for a travel backpack for Uk trip coming up. Was also comparing with Inateck 42L Travel Backpack, Carry on Luggage 22x14x9 Airline Approved Extra Large Cabin Luggage Backpack for women men Fit 15.6 Inch Laptop Notebooks for Weekender which was $129.99 and now $83.19. I dont own any of it would like some opinion which one is better :) please

I had both of these in my hands at one point (i recommend buying both and returning on via amazon). From memory The Inateck feels much more rigid and solid, had more space however lacked a quick-access laptop pouch. The Caribee felt a lot cheaper, felt softer and zips were smaller. Neither of the bags had good shoulder straps.
I absolutely think both of them are great value though. I also tried the Tomtoc 40L which had some good features. In the end I purchased a used Peak Design 45L. I think any of these bags would have done the job though, and last plenty of trips.

      • Most important question is here my friend… how do you rate Peak Design 45L over all the 4?

        • +2

It wins in every aspect except price and weight. I couldn't decide between all of the above (plus Caribee Skymaster 40 and Osprey Farpoint 40L and some others I had looked at in store/online but never had in my hands). I chose the Peak Design 45L because I was sick of agonizing over the decision, the price was worth it for that reason alone. I paid $300. It might help that I paid a lot for it, but now I definitely own a bag that i absolutely love, rather than a bag i'm meh about.

I'm sure an Osprey would be more comfortable once fully loaded though, i was carrying around 12-15kg at times and the shoulder straps were very uncomfortable at those weights (and with the bag jammed full). I've recently considered doing some 2 day overnight hikes and thought the Osprey would have come in handy there… (as much as I love bags, I don't like to own too many things).

    • BTW, i thought the quick access pouch for laptop was absolutely necessary, but on my 7 week europe trip i hardly even used my ipad. Definitely didn't need a quick access pouch since I had packing cubes in the main area anyway.

  • I've been looking at the expandable Mark Ryden ones on AliExpress. Anyone got one and have any feedback?

  • check osprey it last long too and good straps

    • +1

It is 3-4 times the price

      • oh sorry. i had one maybe 8 years ago bought $150 but its just 30L and still fine now

        • Yeah during covid they were only $160 but now the price jack has made the 40L one like $300.

          • @CalmLemons: sorry i just check my google drive i scanned the invoice.
i remember i was price matching with other store and they approved.
            22/08/2014 - $75.
            osprey comet 30L red
and the bag is still looks like 80% new now

@CyberMurning: bro that is 10 years ago.

I'll give you a bag for that price fi you can get me a house with a decade old price…

  • thanks op. bought but have not used an inateck 42L which is light but feels damn solid. buying this one and looking forward to testing both out

  • What's the difference between a carry-on backpack and a normal backpack?

    • carry-on backpack is basically like the same size as a rolling carry-on.
it also opens up fully like a suitcase, instead of a 1/2 zip regular backpack where you have to shove everything from the top only. you can fit a lot in the carry on backpack.

  • Have been using this for 2 years now. Great bag.

    Bought it $109.90 back then.

Scanned and emailed myself the receipt because it has 3 years warranty. Havent had to use it yet

  • i have an amazon basic one for many years, its absolutely fantastic.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01J24H87C/ref=twister_B0BJTL2M…

it has been on many trips and still going strong.

  • Very happy with my tomtoc, use as a daily driver for when im on short trips and overseas

    • Which one did you get?
