Ampol Energy Feedback as an Electricity Supplier

Looking for feedback on Ampol Energy as an electricity only retailer. Currently on peak with controlled load and a smart meter and 4kW solar. I’m not interested in the fuel discount card at all.

Their Powering On plan seems way better than the AGL Seniors Saver plan I’m currently on, but is it too good to true and a bait and switch scheme or a good plan with crappy customer service support and website for usage monitoring.

  • I am guessing you are in NSW? Looks like they only "service" NSW at the moment. Wouldn't take my VIC post code.

  • I just moved across to them but haven't had a bill or have had to call them. Everything seems ok to start.

    Everything is done through an app and has really limited functionality.

    I'm in QLD and been with them a few months. No complaints with the service, but the app has very limited data. All you can do is see your most recent bill, nothing else, not even usage statstics.

    i switched to them a while ago. way cheaper than AGL, single rate so no TOU or peak demand rubbish. fine so far. no dashboard or usage, you just get a bill each month.

    i saw in the news that electricity prices are expected to increase significantly

  • Will be cheaper then the big 3 but the rates you are seeing now will not be the rates for much longer, NSW price change will occur July so make sure to check around after July and see if rates are still competitive.

    • Will keep an eye on it but imagine it will affect all plans on renewal.

        current bill was $119 for the month with AGL, if it was with Ampol it would've been $71.
        more like a family meal saving per month

    Switched from AGL to Ampol start of Feb. Got my first bill that is due and there's no way to pay via Visa/MC in the app. You can set up direct debit and pay via card but not on an adhoc basis.

    Don't seem to be able to log into the website either - get an error to contact their team.

    My opinion is the app is pretty much geared towards petrol - there's a tab for Energy/Electricity which simply has your bill info on it (amount/date due) and an option to set up direct debit (again, you can't actually pay via the app). The payment options are Direct Debit, Cheque/Money Order, Visa/MC/Amex (by calling up), BPAY and in store at Aus Post.

    Its a bit annoying, the rates were much better for me than anything else on offer (Endeavour Energy distributer)_
