Buying TV, Appliances - Wait for EOFY?

Hi, currently building and need to start looking into getting some things for the new place, were due in around August.

Wanting to get

  • 2x Samsung "The Frame" TVs
  • Couple of soundbars like the Samsung Ultra slims (example - these were on sale last week for $599 and now back to $999 :-|)
  • 1x Hisense U7 100" TV
  • 1x Fridge (not sure on model yet)
  • Washer and Dryer (Maybe LG washtower)

Have been to some of the local shops that have been giving mixed opinions,

  • Some say to buy TVs now to get 2024 runout deals, others say just wait to EOFY
  • Almost all say to wait to EOFY for appliances (washer, dryer, fridge)

Thoughts based off your experience in previous years etc?

I can't wait for the next black Friday, for obvious reasons we need to have most of these items at least when we move in.

Don't buy, duh. Buy aus only, but given how much we produce..

      Makes no sense?

    • I didn't realise we produced TVs…

Besides westinghouse ovens, I didn't think anything was made in Australia anymore in terms of large appliances.

        Nahh. None of those.
We just dig dirt out of the ground and send it overseas.

  • Have you checked Costco yet?

    • Not a member of costco unfortunately though could sign up

      • 😲

        • Judging by the comments its sounding like i need to go sign up :)

    Samsung "The Frame" TVs

They were on sale last month.

Regardless of sales, remember to factor in stock availability and warranty period.

As someone who has recently renovated, some things can wait until you're in. Even a washing machine (unless you're getting some weird built in thing).

Fridge, not so much. But stock levels vary. Depending on brand too. HN tends to carry more on site/local stock.

No point wasting 3-6 months warranty in a box only to discover a problem later which you have difficulty resolving (time lapse, wrong size etc)

      Very good point.
Best time to buy is when you need and will use the items

And who needs 3 big TVs all at once?
besides, if Op is moving into a "new-build" there is no guarantee it will be ready in August.
Could run 3 to 6 months late.

And where is OP going to store everything?

And why does OP need new everything?
Typically older white and brown goods last longer than the new lightweight models do.

  • In the background of Uncle Sam having a Tarif war with the entire world, I would likely sit tight and wait for as long as possible because we are not in the turbulence yet. So no I cannot imagine prices going up whist our government isn’t dragging us into retaliation tariffs

  • Do you have access to TGG commercial or JB commercial?

    • Yeah, TGC Commercial though not seeing many great prices on there atm

      • You need to buy when you think you have a great price. You will never get the best price, because…LIFE

I just bought a fridge. Did research, set up searches on sites like this one, and checked manually twice a week on the googles. Then bought when I saw a nice saving. You seem to have settled on the models you want. Just buy when the stars align.

Samsung "The Frame" TVs are overrated. I wouldn't buy one again.

buy now 100%, some TV runout sales are nuts and EOFY sales are never better and stocks always worse.
just walk into a retailer (scary, i know) with best online prices of what you want and give a salesperson your time of day, any salesperson seeing your shopping list will beg to take the sale. don’t shove the online prices in the salesperson’s face as he’ll just match, let him do the pricing.

  • Where do you see the AUD in the next 6 months?.
I see it lower than it's 3rd word country status it is at already, and lower than todays average 62 cents USD.
Meaning TVs are going to cost more.
I'd love to be wrong on this answer.

    • Yes, word is that supplier will be putting up prices if they haven't already, as our dollar is so low. All large electrical and white goods will be affected if not countless more products.

We bought appliances early when renovating and of course completion took longer than estimated. The only problem with buying early was the warranty on a dishwasher which gave problems just out of the warranty period and even though we explained it hadn’t been installed until 3 months after purchase there was no way we could get it repaired under warranty.

Bought my appliances (oven, dishwasher, dryer, range hood and induction cooktop) as a bundle from the good guys about six months before the end of the house build. Decent bulk discount, they kept the stock until the day ineeded it delivered, and the warranties began on delivery. Would absolutely do it again.

    • E&S also have this service where you can buy all the appliances ect and they deliver the day you need
