Legend has it that if you take all of jv's bold texts, they make up a cryptic message.

Don't think you going to find anything better for $77, that's for sure

    • When on sale via AliExpress, the HIFIMAN HE400SE go for little more, but supply might be winding down for a new model.

      • The HE400SE looks good on specs but u gonna need an DAC to carry it, otherwise the SHP is better with 3.5mm

        • A little bit of extra current out of a $20 dongle these days. The 9500 has a lot of bass distortion for an open back, much like the rest of Phillips' offerings.

But as I said earlier, I suspect this has been made EoL and an update is in the offing, much like how most of the higher end now has unveiled variants (though I wouldn't expect such an expensive design at this price point).

@jasswolf: I have HiFiMan HE-X4s or whatever the Drop model are/were, the Phillips have more bass. HiFiMan better staging. Neither of them need an amplifier (but I do have one)

            • @Laserface: Elevated bass levels, but yeah it does come with distortion; this is the acoustic drawback of an open back design.

  • These are a good choice in the $70 - $100 USD range already, so at $48 these are great if you do not have any somewhat Hi-Fi headphones or you just want to get started!

Apparently these are great with the v moda boompro mic as a gaming headset.

  • Image 6 shows an iPhone and talks about ‘direct push’

    Are these Bluetooth as well?

hifi precision stereo, i am assuming this has weak bass?

      They're open headphones, so yes

  • I'm pretty clueless when it comes to audio - used USB gaming headphones most of my life. Would I see a noticible improvement in these over the top of the line Razer headphones as far as sound quality?

Also would I need anything else to drive these? Or can I wack them straight into the integrated soundcard on my motherboard?

      No

Or can I wack them straight into the integrated soundcard on my motherboard?

The green 3.5mm plug on the back of your motherboard.

IMO don't waste your money if you have the Razer

      It is 1am.
      Your parents are sleeping.
You want to watch some PrOn.
      You are welcome.

On open back headphones? Surely not…

Me being single and with HD6XX, looking around nervously

        • Less risk than a real speaker.

        • yeah I don't think they know that open back sucks.

especially at night when your cave brain becomes super sensitive to sounds. hearing someone with open back headphones playing sounds like someone left a clock radio on.

and well for corn idk the noise probably won't be that obvious when you have people moaning on Kiss FM during the day. but probably won't stop some one barging in and trying to find the source of noise.

It's a bargain, there needs not purpose… This is the way…

      Headphones don't need room correction.
You can't lug a class D amp to the backyard
      Superior imaging and precision
      Lower cost of entry

Everyone lives alone at home and can crank music at reference levels with no complaints right?

      • Ok. I was just curious, because I was considering buying some audiophile headphones like this in the past and was wondering if I would actually use them.

        • If you don't know why you'd want to use headphones, why would you want to buy headphones?

    • Hmm, so this is why tradies blast their portable speaker on the train 🤔

    • What???

The money you'd have to spend to get speakers at the same quality as headphones is crazy

These are great in the $50-100 price range. The next upgrade from Philips is Fidelio X2HR (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/X2HR%20type%3Aozbde…) for around $120-150 when on sale

I brought these last sale, highly recommended, they are so light and being open-back you can listen to them for hours and sound so spacious.

  • Very good for casual gaming as its light weight and open back. Downside is the earpad and loose fit. If u can upgrade the earpad to a more solid one, the fit will be tighter. Very good headphone all around for the price. Open back for me is both pros and cons. Plus, u need to buy a 3.5cable with boom mic for in-game communication.

  • Have one already, bought another. no reason at all.

  • Got these years ago and have been my TV headphones when the missus is napping on the couch. I got a big head so they don't feel loose to me and it being pretty light - I could use them for hours on a gaming session.

Been using them while playing God of War Ragnarok on PS5 and the soundstage is pretty good, can hear stuff from behind you and what not. And having a 3.5 jack, I stick on a Bluetooth receiver on the side and use it wirelessly. Sounds wayyy better than plugging it into the PS5 controller but that's a given.

these are ancient headphones. googled and it says 2013 release.

I doubt they still sell 12 years later and philips probably doesn't them anymore. probably very good copies. (I say very good because china market does a very good job of fakes, to the point they actually sound the same as the real thing)

Like Logitech and Razer, Philip sell a lot of the same models for years and well over 10 years for some. Philips have a massive catalogue of products in China compared to the rest of us.

      • -1

        Logitech and Razer really?

I get Logitech spam and they release a couple new products every month. admittedly haven't gotten a new product announcement email in about 2-3 months now, but right after everyone forgot about covid they were coming every month with 2 to 3 new models.

I think I do agree though Logitech does make some good tech designed to last. such as the new Keys to go 2 that uses coin battery and years of battery life.

I know about a few bluetooth speakers from philips that don't sell in Australia but a lot of their recent product range seems to be more average consumer stuff, not wired headphones anymore.
