Its a pity that no other store will have same exact model to compare with prices. They probably same thing, but just titled differently from store to store so they can set max price

That's exactly what it is. Mattresses are the biggest scam with their pricing because they do exactly that. Never have the same "model" mattress at 2 difference stores for comparison. Even though they might be the exact same mattress, they name them differently for each store and put the mark ups through the roof as there is no way to compare pricing on them.

Many years ago I worked at Sleepmaker, and yep they were all pretty much the same. Only difference for stores were fabric and perhaps stitch pattern, other differences were only between premium and budget where there would be different foams used or a different innerspring.

I worked as a Customer service manager at the Sealy factory in Queensland and can agree with what you said, minor variations of the same thing going to different stores.

      • Its probably the time for Government to set rule as they set for private health insurance, especially during election time

Markups are huge, got a queen direct from the factory a few years back (before they apply the Sealy branding) for $500, same one was selling for $5k+ in the shops. Tried to buy another a year or two late and they no longer sold them out the factory, probably got stopped by Sealy.

      Which factory ?

    I used to spend thousands.
Then went to ikea : $300-400. 1/10th the price

    • Is the one at Ikea good? I am looking for a really firm one?

      • +2

Just a FYI that back in the day the IKEA sizes were different from the standard Australian sizes, so you might want a new frame as well. But that was years and years ago so maybe they've changed it so it just matches the local region now.

          Standard sizes now

@dangerdanger: IKEA don't do a King Single though. Apparently it's an Australian thing?

            • @yamumma: Yep. Lost my mind living overseas when I had a King Single bed and could not for the life of me find anything that fit that locally (or on US amazon etc).

    • I tried Ikea one, but seems to soft and I don't think it will last long, especially with what they called "body indentation" and not "sagging". For me both are same thing, just a jargon to avoid warranty claim.

  • Just got my Sealy from Costco. Online included delivery otherwise was $100 cheaper at the warehouse. Comparable mattress or I dare say even identical, is $180 dearer at Myer with this sale.

  • Used to work with someone who used to work in their finance. I was told all the models were pretty much the same. The biggest difference was just marketing.

If you look often enough, you will find that this is not a deal. All mattress stores have 50% off sales at least once a month if not more.

    • I own full latex bed and first few years was fine until is started to sag/body indentation. Required to be at least 25 mm to claim warranty. During sales, the sales person said no need to rotate the bed and it will last for 25 years. Right, it was only sales tone.
My king bed is so heavy and to rotate it, requires a high amount of energy and few people. Time to change with spring bed.

    • The only "disadvantage" is that these type of mattress may lack "edge support", so consider this when you are trying them/buying them.
If you can't sit upright on the edge (to get in/out of bed), you may need to consider this or having a handrail etc.,..

i've never heard of such an issue before - have you encountered this much with latex mattresses?

definitely should always try mattresses before buying if possible

  • I don't own or have any personal experience of "Origin Mattress", but it seems to get recommendations from Choice magazine. Also a heap of other "awards".
Sleeping Duck has latex inserts that can be removed or added to change firmness.
Hospital Mattresses are essentially all foam (or gel or special pumped air movement type) and are designed to reduce the likelihood of pressure point wounds/pressure injuries.
They are also impervious to liquids/spillage.
Some elderly people with very poor skin, which can easily tear. This then leads to ulcers etc,.
Having lower back pain/pain in other joint areas is quite a different issue.
If you are not stuck in bed for extended periods of time, exercise and seeing exercise physios is likely the treatment for this common problem.

These prices seem to be the same as any if the other never-ending "mattress sales"

Sealy have 50% off at all their resellers. Its advertised on their site. If you go in store at most places, you can get them to throw in extras like matress protectors or discounted pillows
