  • Any review? Thinking of getting one for the kids room

Seriously pay the extra for a split unless you really need it portable

      • +7

might be a fair bet that most folks looking at one of these is renting

      • $499 vs $3500 for similar kw split system including installation. Obviously split system is Better but at aprice. Weight it up I guess

        • $3500? cost me 2k installed through bunnings for a split system which was around 3.5kw. 3.5k would be quite the rip off.

    • the only review was for the 4.1 KW: "This product has made our upstairs loft area far more livable. It’s a little noisy, but all powerful portables are… Because our loft is open to the floor below, (no doors to close and keep the cool air contained to one area) - the unit doesn’t get the upper floor as cool as I’d like it on really hot days - but in a contained space, I can tell this powerful guy would work a treat. It’s freezing walking by it."

    • Main issues with portable are they vibrate and are so noisy there's no chance you can sleep with one anywhere within 100km of you.. Other issue is if you live in a high humidity place (QLD) expect to be emptying the water tank every 10 minutes when it stops working. You can get around that by kinda constructing something for yourself (i have done this before) but you are still stuck with the huge amount of noise and vibration from any of these units. So it's totally incomparable to a split system, to say a split system is a billion times better would be an understatement.

      • There is no question split system better.. The real question is are you able to install it… Pleanty of people living in apartments with very strict bylaw..and most new apartments don't even have balcony near the room that don't have pre installed AC…

We don't even start talking with renter here….

reckon y have a bit of outrage redundancy there listing no auto-louvre and then listing no auto-louvre twice more

      • +1

And the horrors of only having a 'program timer', and another 'timer', but not a weekly timer!

  • Anyone know the size by chance ?

  • I just went to Bing Lee to order. No stock at hand.
The guy at Burwood NSW offered me $479

These things are absolute crap. If you're a renter renting from a slumlord who won't install a split system, you're better off getting a box air conditioner that goes through your window or one of those skinny air conditioners that clips onto the front of your window sill if you have security screens and can't shove a box air conditioner through your window.

You see tonnes of these on Facebook Marketplace selling for next to nothing and for good reason.

Obligatory Technology Connections video explaining why these are crap:

Do you have a link to an example of what is preferred?

  • Aren't these useless unless you connect the ducting to a window so you can blow all the hot air outside? You are better off getting a window air conditioner.

    • Same as a split system is useless unless you put the external part outside.

They are inefficient as they suck in warm outside air to replace the air they expel. Also noisy as the compressor is inside.

      • Difference is the hose is inside the house. Heat thru that radiates regardless of the hot air getting expelled outside.

  • I wanted something more efficient than a portable air conditioner but not permanent like a split system. Portable air conditioners only has one exhaust which means it will use the cool air inside the room to exhaust outside making it terribly inefficient.

I ended up picking up the Kogan 3kW inverter reverse cycle vertical window air conditioner. It's a bit quieter than a portable one and was a lot more easier to install than expected (user instructions made it looked hard). It uses the air from outside for intake and exhaust of the compressor. It's able to cool down my office which is about ~20m2. I haven't had to empty the condensation water yet as it uses the water for evaporation purposes to make the unit slightly more efficient.

    • kogan branded or just sold by kogan?
