The Comfort Craftsman is a harder-wearing take on our classic 1960s boot, with the same signature chisel square toe, Goodyear welt, and elastic sides. Updated for comfort and ease of daily wear, this boot has a comfort innersole and durable rubber sole, which holds up well against wet weather conditions and can be replaced easily, giving this style a longer life cycle.

The Comfort Craftsman is crafted by hand in our Adelaide workshop, from a single piece of Yearling leather. As with all of our leather boots, it's constructed by our skilled craftspeople, using over 80 time-honored techniques and processes.

By that time, items will be sold out lol

  • whats the difference between this and dynamic flex? I thought they were the same thing lol

    • The sole changes which will then affect how it fits as well

Dynamic Flex is in my opinion the most comfortable of the options, however its also the option that wears faster.

I forget the names but essentially each boot comes in 3 varients:

Fully Leather Sole (meant for horse riding)
Fully Rubber Sole (Longest wearing, least comfortable)
Dynamic Flex (Leather/Rubber combo sole) - Most Comfortable

    • i own all 3: dynamic flex, comfort, and leather.

dynamic flex is best used if you have orthopaedic insoles. this had too much arch support for me, and i have a regular arch. I just got them because this was my first pair and they were cheap, my gateway drug, lol. i hate these the most until i put in some expensive orthotics. now i can wear these all day, these are my 2nd choice.

comfort craftsman is the most comfortable and longest wearing. i wear this most of the time, and this is my 1st choice. these just fit perfect.

leather i wear for important meetings, formal events, etc… i definitely don't want to wear these all day or often, my last choice.

  • Look into some videos on the quality degradation of these boots over the last few years if interested in buying. They are more on par with the $150 boots from Myer now and just rely on the brand name to exploit people who don't do the research.

These sorts of comments pop up in every thread.

The truth is no, the quality is not on par with a $150 boot. They more in line with a $400 boot, then with the 'Made in Australia' tax and the 'heritage brand' tax on top. Would I pay $700rrp, probably not, are they a good deal for a hand-made boot with top tier customer service, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything similar.

        But reddit told me

      • Agreed. I'm not a huge RM's fan as I just don't love the shape of their lasts, but they are worlds beyond what you can get for $150 at myer (which is generally garbage).

Idk about $150 boots at Myer, but I can confirm that these $150 boots from The Iconic are at par from comfort, style, quality and long term experience https://www.theiconic.com.au/gaucho-1307624.html?utm_source=…

@doodlejones: IMO, not sure how the linked boots match on style. There is a stich under the gusset on each side (multiple hides) and the grain is so large I can see it in a web photo.

RM Williams also don't last for me. I need to resole them at least annually when I daily drive. They also aren't that comfortable for me. I prefer to walk in 5kg work boots over RM Williams.

RM Williams are great for a look, if that's what you are going for. But mine are retired.

If you want to impress, you'd be better off buying dress shoes for that money not a Chelsea.

            • @Pussqunt: Exactly these boots are heavy as f and far from walking on clouds!

          • @doodlejones: I'm happy they work for you, but those boots use cement constructed soles, and are manufactured in China with untraced leather.

While there is nothing specifically wrong with any of those things, they are all designed to reduce cost to the detriment of quality. Not to mention that they are un-repairable and will have to be replaced when the sole wears through.

Fine for a cheaper boot, but not the same as a hand constructed, goodyear welted boot.

          • @doodlejones: Those boots are very different on construction, no mention of what grade of leather etc, unless in saying "genuine Tumbled Leather" they mean it is "Genuine Leather" which has been tumbled, in which case it is a low grade of leather.

Maybe they work well over time, but they are definitely a far cheaper boot in regards construction (and likely leather sourcing), which is what you are paying for.The sole is glued rather than a proper goodyear welt, and overall not a comparable product.

Not saying RM's are worth what they charge these days, but they are definitely worth a lot more than those Julius Marlow's linked.

If anyone was selling brand new goodyear welted boots made from a decent quality hide for $150, they would be all over ozbargain as it would be a steal.

I would advise you do some research before commenting. I really wanted a pair and did a fair bit of due diligence first. I was disgusted by what I found. Nowhere near $400 worth.

I agree - my sole cracked and fell apart. I had to pay $190 to get them resoled. After 2.5 years.

I should have just bought Hush Puppies Chelsea for $150…

      • No wonder they don't state warranty on their website….

    • Look into those videos and you'll see people have not been comparing like for like. Eg comparing Dynamic Flex with Comfort Craftsman.

That isn't to say the quality has or hasn't decreased. Just that I think I know which video you are referring to (potentially this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5QX2_5jvtY) and he compared different shoes to the one he did last time.

Remember that these youtubers get more clicks with clickbait headlines.

There is a reason every man and his dog in a suit is wearing these in the CBDs around Australia; they are comfortable to stand around in all day.

    • RM Williams are decent.

    • rmw is the australian standard, it would be like allen edmonds in america.

  • Mostly liberals and trompets' choice. If liberals win the upcoming election thanks to trompets they would triplet the sale of these boots, otherwise caput!
