OnePass - I Have a Love-Hate Relationship with It

Is it just me, or do others find OnePass to be very good at times, and dismal at other times?

Good example: Had to place a tiny $5 order with Target for delivery, as the local Target did not have stock. Saved $9 freight according to the order confirmation (probably not true, but even if I saved $3 freight, it is still good).

Dismal example: Trying to place an order for delivery with Bunnings. Local store had no stock, so it forces me to select another store that does have stock - fair enough. After selecting the store with stock, it simply says delivery not available, choose another store. Choosing another store with stock shows the same message. Phoned Bunnings and got passed around to many different staff members, who simply do not know. It is a lawn mower wheel worth $15 - definitely not over the weight limit. So my order is stuck in a loop, and no one knows what to do. It states free delivery is available, but I cannot complete the order.

I have had other successes and failures. The failures are most frustrating. The attitude seems to be if the checkout is successful you will get the product, but until then, you won't know (even if you read all the OnePass terms and conditions, there is still an element of hit and miss).

Constructive comments welcomed.

Trying to place an order for delivery with Bunnings. Local store had no stock

Bunnings is the WORSE for OnePass orders. The ordering system is a total mess even when not getting free delivery.

I once wanted some storage tubs, oddly I could order 2 for free delivery with one pass, but adding a 3rd triggered a $50 freight charge. So as any good ozcheapo I placed a order for 2 and a order for 1 to get 'free' shipping.

So I don't think it is purely One pass.

I did the same when two bags of potting mix attracted a $35 delivery fee being over the size limit. So I did two separate orders for one.

      • Crazy isn't it?

  • Had big issues with with Catch, not that that meant missing out on much… works well for KMART as you mentioned which is handy for small purchases and avoiding shopping centres

That's a Bunnings stock management website issue. Not a one pass issue.

    • I really don't know. You may be right, but perhaps the offering of free freight triggers something in the Bunnings system.

      • Are you clicking "convert cart items to delivery" or similar wording at checkout?

        • There was wording similar to that during the process. Without selecting that the order will not move forward.

Everything has been entered right, it is just that it will not allow a store with stock to fulfil the order. Ordering from local store is not an option as it has no stock. Can only select from stores close by, the option to choose another store is not provided while placing the order.

  • I got a onepass delivery today for a $2 item I bought on eBay. It sold for $1.75 at Kmart. I guess it is a staff member with discount or somebody keen to collect flybuys, otherwise seems a lot of work to list things on eBay for 25c profit before fees.

Considering eBay takes nearly 15% in 'frees' these days, there isn't much left in that. The staff discount I think is 5% from memory.

I'm sure you'll trigger something if a staff member is order 1000s of little $2 orders.

Maybe they are trying to get lots of positive reviews for small items to juice up the stats for their ebay store?

It's usually just worth assuming that Bunnings has absolutely no online presence - their online ordering system is so clunky, and stock management so disastrous, that basically the principle with Bunnings is to just go in store - if it's there, it's there; if it's not, it's not. There are plenty of other better options for purchasing online.

On the question about OnePass more broadly - I find it to be pretty good value for $20, Target and Kmart are pretty decent online these days, and I've snagged a few bargains on Catch and benefitted from free shipping. The $20 has definitely paid for itself.

I like one pass just so I can avoid walking through Kmart and walking out with $420.69 worth of extra shit I did not need but thought ehhhh $5-20 why not.

With Bunnings when the stock is less than 10 it won’t let you choose for delivery, 10 is there usual loss quantity.
I’ve confirmed this so many times over the phone and in store.
When for in store stock, shows in stock on website shows 9 in stock on nrby, goto store to pick up.
    Yeah nah no stock.

    • Same thing with Good Guys commercial - I was told you can’t do ‘collect’ if less than 4 in stock. And of course, you can only use GGC online, so going into a store with stock less than 4 won’t work either.

  • Totally agree. Online ordering is pathetic. Why do you need to find a store with stock? That's their job. Isn't Target in their group? If you order from Target you don't know at point of order what store its coming from until you get a delivery update.

    • Yes, that is what I was thinking. It wouldn't be that difficult to implement. Select closest store based on postcode. If stock is in fact not there despite there being stock showing in the system, have the option for staff member to reject the order, and then it goes to the next closest store. Or just fulfil all orders from largest store in each state.

  • I got the issue resolved this morning. I phoned Bunnings National Customer Support on 1800 797 586.

Took me 30 minutes to get through to someone. The person I spoke to also could not understand why it was not going through. He was competent however & put the order through for me.

I spoke to 4 different Bunnings store staff members yesterday - I don't blame them for not knowing what to do, but it would have been good if one of these staff members took ownership of the issue and saw it through. Instead, 2 different stores promised me a call back, but I heard nothing further from them.

I would normally expect to place an online order for a single item in about 7 minutes. Due to issues and time waiting on phone calls, this order took just under 2 hours.

At least I was able to get it resolved in the end. I needed the wheel, and did not want to have to drive 2 hours to the stocking Bunnings store to get it, so for that I guess I should be grateful.

  • My experience with Bunnings has been good. And they deliver very fast. K-Mart on the other hand… super slow delivery!
