Is This Brand New Dell 3190 Laptop $219 Cheap from Catch?

Dell Latitude 3190 11.6" Laptop - Black

As you can see, I'm very new at posting anything. Hope this makes sense to somebody who knows about PC hardware and may feel it's worth a post?

I haven't used a PC in a long time so decided to buy this to get a bit more organised, @$219 and has a RRP of $799 which is still being sold at the RRP if you google it.

Hope this helps.

Is This a Cheap Laptop from Catch?

    Yes, cheap.

Is that all your criteria ?

    • Yes. Somewhat. After all, this IS OzBargain. Where I referred to cheap, I meant as in value not quality.

      • I meant as in value not quality.

        Value is subjective.

I wouldn't buy it, it will be annoyingly slow for me, but it might be fine for you…

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

The screen resolution alone would rule it out for me. It is cheap junk.
You can get a decent used laptop for under $200 though. e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185498538827
Or not much more for an 8th gen that can run Windows 11.

It's cheap but what do u intend to do with the laptop? I bought a 10"(?) Atom powered LT a while back for use in the workshop and the slowness of it drove me insane. It was a poor use of $150.

  • too much for a 5 year old budget cpu

  • RRP is more likely $300. But it is old now, I'd say $219 is all its worth.

It's a piece of <swearword here> garbage. Price is low, value is much lower than the price.

Screen is 12" diagonal with a resolution is lower than a smartphone. It's running Windows 10 (probably upgradable to 11 but can't be arsed checking) which goes out of support in October this year. Storage is unspecified but it's probably slow eMMC instead of SSD.

This is exactly the kind of crap they try to market as low end Chromebooks or "let's give every kid in the Third World a computer!" I absolutely loathe this kind of hardware- it's aimed at people who don't know better and it is one step up from landfill.

A vastly better deal would be a secondhand ex-corporate laptop. Similar cost, better screen and five times the compute power.

$219 and has a RRP of $799 which is still being sold at the RRP

Anyone who buys this at RRP is probably also talking to Nigerian princes. You know that sellers on aggregated sales sites like Amazon or Ebay will keep listings with jacked up prices just to hold the stock code and URL, right? Doesn't mean that anyone is actually buying the product.

    • Yes, the OP's linked laptop is a N series CPU, eMMC 'hdd', and a B grade refurb.

There are far, far better deals for as little as $10 more.

  • 8th Gen+ gives you Win 11 and USB charging.

anything less is suitable only for project work now. Most common item to die (not get broken) on a laptop? Power supply. USB C and you are free of proprietary PSUs.

Screen resolution is the next item. Try for FHD

Disk: 8th gen it may be a spinning disk. Lower that that and it will be. Upgrade to SSD

Processing power (i3/5/7) is only needed for games and word. My 5th Gen laptop can only walk O365. Painful. (but has a ~3-4 sec boot time)
