What Radio Control Gear Do You Use for Your RC Cars?

Long shot here, but it's been quite a number of years since I was into RC, and now my kids are getting into RC cars so I'll need to get a few.

Specifically, I'm after transmitters and receivers, not the cars themselves. I remember I used to use JR Propo, Acoms and Futaba controllers and receivers, but what price-conscious controllers are people using today? For example, these ones seems quite well rated:

https://www.amazon.com.au/FS-GT3B-Transmitter-Receiver-Contr…

[I'm not committed to Amazon, those are just linked and well reviewed). And they don't need to be pistol grip either. But I'd rather not pay a huge amount of money. Thanks!

    WL-Toys from Ali/gearbest

Radio tech has come a long way. I too used to be JR Propo and Futaba many years ago.

Nowadays, the cheap cheap stuff is good enough for toy-level vehicles.

Plenty available on Ali express. Can get some decent brushless cars with gear for $100ish

I've used the flysky stuff with no issues. Gt3c comes with a rechargeable battery.

Are people still using ancient PPM tech for remotes? (27MHz etc)
Or is there something newer, packet based?

27mhz is no longer around except for the likes of Kmart cars. Manufactures use 2.4ghz and 5.2ghz etc

      • Aha! That explains why I don't see any crystals to keep the frequencies separate!

  • Thanks everyone! I ended up ordering a Flysky for myself, and a couple of HotRCs for the kids. Thanks very much for the suggestions! Now I will start looking for batteries.
