Got Random Interlink Roads Toll Notices Even with Etag

To my horror and first time in decades of driving in Sydney I got 8 toll notices from Interlinked Roads pvt limited even having my eTag from myRTA.

I checked my online eTag entries online and found I was getting charged on the day but interlinked and eToll had a time difference of 5-8 mins.

I’m confused as this never happened before. The battery seems to be okay on the eTag as I don’t hear it beeping or out of the ordinary.

On top of the confusion the rego number on which the notices came I sold it but swapped the registration which took a week. And yes I confirm I was driving the car on that day and I don’t see how A) the eTag missed tolls randomly or B) I’m being charged twice.

1) what do I do from here?
2) I get M5 toll relief and they are mostly on M5. The rego won’t match cause the charges were on the older registration plate which I sold.
3) Another Op posted a way to avoid the admin fees but my question here why do I even pay the admin fees even after I had my eTag. It’s not my fault.

  • Have you tried talking to Linkt? I really don’t understand what’s going on with your situation, so good luck.

If I take my eTag out of my vehicle, it will still charge me via the registration plate with a “video match” fee.

If you have agreed to pay tolls for a personalised plate and sold that plate to somebody else, it’s likely you’re still paying tolls for that plate, unless you have removed it from your toll account.

  • I don't get it. Does the plate on the ticket match the new car or the one you sold?

I think I confused everyone. Firstly I received the mails later today in my mailbox since it was after 7pm I couldn’t call them.
    Let’s give an example.

I had my customised rego no “Earth” and on Jan 25th I bought a new car with a Rego plate “12345”.
I drove the new car “12345” for few days 25th -29th Jan with my eTag on and got the toll notices. My eTag was charged during those days and the interlink toll notices show a gap of few minutes of both my RTA toll and interlink. So I’m suspecting the eTag was not working during those times?!

Now the twist of fate is I swapped my custom plate “Earth” to “12345” ie my new car has “Earth” and old car “12345”.

I sold the car “12345” few days back and the toll notices are on “12345”.

What do I do now? Calling interlink is pointless as google says to raise a dispute. It’s complicated and how do I even start.

      I'm still confused…. lol

What on earth don't you understand? It's as simple as 12345.

Perhaps reading the prequel will give you more context.

Season One will be confusing though because we all thought the car was being sold interstate.

Perhaps a third season will resolve this mystery thriller. I think OP is a ghost writer for David Baldacci.

      • Yeah I give up

      • Maybe a flow chart diagram may help?

Don't always trust Google. Call them and see what they say. Also maybe ask for the photos with time stamps to prove it all?

  • To also clarity, it sometimes can take time for the eTag to update the Rego the Tag is associated too. When my wife got a new car, I think it took 30 to 60 days for the Linkt account to update with the new rego. Even though I updated it within the app and removed the old rego from being associated with my account.

I am in VIC, not sure if that is different or not, but assumed it is all Linkt/Transurban related?

Raise a dispute. Follow the process. Itll probably be fixed once you do - but may take a while.

Theres a reasonnthey have a 'dispute' process. Ita becasue they screw up the tolls a lot, especially when changing rego plates

  • it is rego number on which the notices came I sold

Is it your newly sold BMW saga or another drama story?

  • Tell them that it can only be their faulty hardware and they normally just send you a new tag as the battery could be at fault.

  • So I contacted linkt they said to contact RMS eToll. They are closed now.

Do I really contact rms or linkt guy fooled me as he wasn’t sure and said he’s new.

    • Your issue is with the toll tag provider (eToll).

I think your tag battery is flat. I've had 2 go flat and they just die without noises (including no noise going through a toll gate).

The charges against your old registration plate are an administration error on your part and you'll have to wear that.

    • linkt guy fooled me

Or he is just as confused as everyone here.
