This is just a FYI for anyone doesn't know (I didn't) but when you get those rubbish notifications from LinkT for a Toll plus the admin fee of $10 you can transfer to MyEToll pay the Toll and just a $1.10 fee.

Select your city
Click Pay a Toll Notice
Enter your vehicle details
Select the Tolls
Click Transfer to eToll
You will notice that it now only charges $1.10 per Toll

My Tolls for the 4 i had went from $70ish to $30ish bucks

Hope this helps someone

Carry on, let the abuse fly

I do not remember that at all

      • +4

I was disappointed it wasn't a booze post.

  • Not for Victoria?

    • +1

Yeah not sure about VIC sorry

    • LinkTGO app is $1 fee

    • Both CityLink and EastLink in VIC are 100% privately owned so there's no governmental alternatives, well, or at least not in another 20 years (deed ends ~2043).

If you use toll roads occasionally just top up $20 and get a tag for free. I find it convenient when I actually need to drive on toll roads while no need to worry about all kinds of fees.

      • +1

I have postpaid account. Pretty expensive.

        • I assume it’s for the commercial account? That makes sense then.

          • @xmagic: I dont know, but I am not using it as commercial account

    • +4

The hidden tolling hack for Victoria is that if you have a personal ute then get a NSW E-Toll account as they go off weight breaks rather than personal vs commercial toll rates.

Therefore utes pay the same as their SUV equivalents, rather than the same as a truck.

    Fk Linkt scum

    • +6

      Yeah i hate them.

Talked to them trying to get it sorted as i had a tagless pass with eToll but it stuffed up on their side. Called eToll and they told me about the work around.

I happily paid the fee to eToll just as long as LinkT didn't get it

  • Nice

  • It’s more of a hack isn’t? btw great tip. thanks mate.

  • +6

I've always called in a stupid tax, they do specifically note on the toll notice you can attach it to an account to reduce the fee. A good PSA nonetheless.

One of the worst companies in Australia. Good tip though.

People in Queensland cancel your Linkt account and go through Eastlink. Same ownership but a far more pleasant experience.

    • +2

Eastlink is owned by ConnectEast. The only toll road not owned by transurban

  • +3

Why not create a MyEToll ? before you start your trip?

    • Yeah i did, the Tolls up to my holiday worked but on the way back didn't, was an issue on their side where it didn't try and top up my account when it should have

  • +10

I cant wait until the day Linkt collapses

  • I get about a dozen Linkt toll notices per week from the previous occupant of our house. I called up Linkt to tell them that they no longer live here and to stop sending the notices but they tell me they are unable to update the details on their end, or even try and contact the person another way. Hopeless company.

    • +1

have you Return To Sender them ?

    • You could try contacting the department of transport or equivalent in your state.

Each time the vehicle goes through the toll road Linkt would be getting the postal address for that particular registration through the department of transport.

So you may have more luck with them getting the owner of the vehicle to update their address?

I did not know, and I have two sitting on my desk. Thanks OP. I wouldn't have heard about this if it went to the forums.

    • Happy it helped

  • Great work OP

  • Thanks OP. Thanks for sharing.

  • I wish I saw this a week ago. I know I have 2 charges on my etoll. I tried looking my number plate up on Linkt, and it didn't say anything. I was down there between 27th and 30th of July. I also discovered that my Etag no longer beeps (time to replace).

  • Isnt that etoll always $1.1 for admin fees? Never thought others would charge $10, that’s bit pain.

  • +2

    I don't understand

    • +3

I think post is about single toll notice - which you could payed less via E-toll.
Not about regular link / Е-toll accounts

    • Same here. The post isn't very clear to understand, especially for occasional or rare toll users who have tags. It got me confused.

  • -6

I just call them and get the toll fee reversed everytime i use a toll.

I have a friend that swears he has never paid a toll. He just ignores the notice. Since its a private company they cant suspend your license. Most they can do is send debt collectors after you, but debt collectors will likely not accept it if its under a certain limit.

  • -3

Real ozbargain is to know your way around toll roads to avoid them

  • +2

Waiting on the Australian Toll Notices guide using Turkish VPN, that'd be a deal!

Can't believe the 'admin' costs on toll companies. Had one by accident years ago, and they were relentless in chasing it. I actively avoid the toll roads; though possibly fuel savings/time spent may in some cases be worth it - I am a man of principles.

My annoying experience with Linkt is unrelated -but perhaps symptomatic.

All our cars (incl for children in the ACT, NSW & Vic) are on our account. We don't use toll roads much (the time savings rarely justify the rent seekers rapacious demands). And we often have to pay a $0.55 fee for number plate matching when a car without a sensor goes through a detector.

THEN we noticed that we were getting charges for an ACT registered vehicle on Sydney toll roads when the said vehicle was safely tucked up in the warmth (not!) of Jindabyne.

Turns out that there is a NSW-registered vehicle with the same rego. Way to go! It looks like the Linkt infrastructure can't tell different colour plates apart (not helped by the bone-brained idea to have non-unique plate numbering across jurisdictions).

Anyway, an hour of stuffing around and Linkt agreed to reverse the charges. Not all of them - that would have taken care and diligence. And they are now meant to manually check every detection to make sure that I don't pay for more trips made by other drivers. Waste of time and effort for me.

Now I can see why so many other people have the hates for our toll bludger friends!

I joined a class action recently against Linkt for their admin fee in QLD if anyone is interested

    • +4

Good on you. I would too but I don't use roll roads at all. I have (mistakenly) used a toll road once by making a wrong turn in the last 10 years and couldn't drive back out. I would rather sit in a traffic jam and reach an hour late than willingly pay these low lives / burden on the populace a single cent.

  • The amount of spam I get with scammers using Linkt is staggering after Medibank data leak

  • -1

Doesn't the letter tell you? I remember the first time I got the notice with the admin fee ($16 at the time and years ago), It said, if you want to waive it, create an eToll account online

  • so overall, could anyone advice LinkT vs EToll, which one is better and cheaper?

    thanks!

  • +1

I love you! My admin fees went from 75 to 10 after seeing your post! Who said procrastination doesn’t pay off?
    These vultures…

  • Anything work for QLD linkt tolls?

  • It redirects you to use the secure parking app anyways.

For those who don't want to sign up with linky here are the promo codes to use in the secure parking app:

    PROMO CODES:
    Hourly Parking: LINKT20HOURLY

    Night Parking: LINKT20NIGHT

    Weekend Parking: LINKT20WE

    • What does this have to do with the deal which is waiving admin fees?
