BankWest Not Honouring Offer for 2x $25 Cashback

I noticed the deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873625 (“Open an Easy Transaction Account, Make 5 Eligible Debit Card Purchases & Get $25 Cashback, Per 30 Days for 60 Days @ Bankwest”) opened an account before 6 December 2024 and made my eligible transactions.
Yet I was denied the claim as the transactions allegedly had to be made between 15 October and 6 December.
BankWest have removed the original offer so I cannot refer to it.

Either the ozbargain deal is wrong or the bank is being dodgy

So I’d like to know:
1. Did anybody get the same issue?
2. Did anybody get the bonus in spite of the qualifying transactions being after 6 December?
3. Has anybody got a record of the original BankWest offer.

Yet I was denied the claim as the transactions allegedly had to be made between 15 October and 6 December.

between 15 October 2024 and 6 December 2024 by 6:00pm AWST and the below conditions are met:

Sounds like the bank is being dodgy and getting confused by the date the account needed to be opened and the eligible time period.

question is, how much effort do you want to go to in order to get $50.

you could ask them for the T&Cs of the deal.

    T&Cs are here.

Earn up to $50 cashback promotional offer is available when a new Bankwest Easy Transaction Account is opened via https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/bank-and-save/lp/cashback-offer between 15 October 2024 and 6 December 2024 by 6:00pm AWST and the below conditions are met:

    • Customers must not have held (either in your own name or jointly) any ‘Bankwest Transaction Account’ in the previous 12 month period from the date of account opening. In the case of joint accounts, all account owners must meet this condition to be considered eligible for the promotion.

    • To earn $25 cashback for each 30-day period commencing from the Account Open Date, for 2 consecutive periods, you need to make 5 ‘settled’ (fully processed and not pending) ‘eligible purchases’ for each 30-day period. For example, if the Account was opened on 24 October 2024, the following periods would apply: 24/10/24 – 22/11/24 and 23/11/24 – 22/12/24 in which the customer will need to make 5 settled purchases for each 30-day period. A maximum of $50 cashback is payable, i.e. $25 for each 30-day period.

Go to your local branch and speak to the manager.

    Oh…

  • I have the same issue. I have just sent chat messages through Bankwest app (contact us). I put the term and condition link above from alvian in the message chat too.

The human operator (from the chat said):
"Thanks for your patience, I will need to send a request to our products team to have this applied for you, apologies for the inconvenience.

When we have an outcome, we will advise via Bankmail, on the full site of your online banking

Please allow 2 days for a response from the team and we will be in touch via bankmail."

  • I've had similar issues with them in the past. Believe it was for their qantas points transaction account. After speaking back and forward on chat, they yielded and sent the points. But only after I argued how ambiguous the T&Cs were.

Pretty sure it was related to the account being opened middle of the month, the transactions needed to be done in that rolling period, not based on calendar month. So I processed 5 x transactions before month end. Then processed another 5 at the beginning of the next month, so on and so on. So at some point, the transactions didn't hit the "qualify" dates.

Very frustrating and wasn't keen to deal with their T&C's again in the future.

  • That deal has been closed for comments so that I couldn't have said it last month. Both lots of $25 were received automatically. The purchase period is dependent on your account opening day, mostly different for everyone. They can be beyond 6 Dec as some of my eligible purchases were.
