Aquarium Safe Spray Paint for Pipework, Ornaments etc

Anyone have any first hand experience with painting filter intakes/spray bars/fake plant bases/terracotta pots/rocks/other ornaments etc?

Apparently US fishkeepers rave about Krylon Fusion…Rustoleum Acrylic Enamel is up there too…would love to hear from any Aussies in the know?

Wondering if a can of Fiddly Bits from Bunnings would do the trick, true Ozbargain styles?

These guys seem credible on the topic… so long as you let your work cure for a week or so and soak prior to introduction, all toxic elements/solvents should be gone.?.

How much are your fish worth? You could save a few dollars on the paint, but you won't know what your fish think of it until it's too late.

    • options are pretty limited from my research…the link i provided in OP was where i drew best conclusion…hence wondering if any real world experience in Australia buying from local hardware stores etc…cheers!

  • I had to reseal an aquarium and instead of buying the expensive aquarium silicone I just used a cheaper neutral cure. I'm sure with a bit of research you could narrow down a type of paint that is safe.

  • On a similar note, I am researching for a pond. I believe expanding foam to be safe, now I am wondering about dyed mortar (as regular concrete and mortar is okay)

yep its a field littered with uncertainties, anecdotal evidences and the odd disaster, especially with DIY and mods. i find the biggest issue is the hobby is very US-centric with the available info on the net, so many products tried and tested are not available here, hence this thread…have a great day!
