+1 for the Flight of the Conchords reference in your username

    • -6

-1 for reminding me that show exists.

  • +1

I just ordered one of these direct from GMKTec during their Valentine’s Day sale. Same price except mine is barebones (no RAM or SSD). This is a great bargain.

Edit: ordered. Requested a cancellation from GMKTec…🤞

  • +3

    i nabbed their k8+ 2tb for $689 at 00:10 today
gmktec seems to generally offer a coupon when they first change the price to lower. the coupon doesn't last long on the k8+

    • Is that one better for gaming?

      • +1

        afaik the 780m igpu > 680m

    • +2

I just found the K8 Plus still has the $100 coupon available which brings it down to $683.99

      • +2

Thanks, bought one, pretty good price, with updated new design.

        • +1

          Just got one too :)

      • +1

        oh . i didnt know.
i assumed that because i couldnt see the coupon anymore, that it was gone.

ive been sniping of one of these for a while and always seemed to miss out if i waited more than 15mins to decide.
And yes i did mean $683.99 not $689.

      • A few weeks back the 5825u gmktec was available for $309 for about 30minutes (once coupon discount was taken into account) while i umm'd and arr'd

      • +1

Listing is here for other readers btw - a few of the listings for the same model don't have the coupon

    • +1

I'm giga annoyed. I bought this last week at $783 with 1TB… 😓. Already did way too much setup on this to return.

      • +2

Ive literally been watching the prices for two months now. :)
i missed out on the 1tb for $580ish early feb/ late Jan and last week at $700ish on the 1tb too (was $850 - $150 coupon for 30minutes last week)

        • +1

I secretly hate you 😂. I also didn't see that there's two separate Amazon listings for the K8+ from GMKTec.

One is in this post as one of the options, the other with the coupon is a listing on its own with 2TB. Had no idea. Need to hand in my OzB card.

Good deal! But I decided to purchase the AMD Ryzen 9 6950H 32GB/2TB variant instead for $519.99.

Paying $190 extra for RAM and SSD upgrade and 2 USB C ports instead of just 1 is well worth it IMO.

  • I wonder if you could power this via a portable battery bank

    • Looks like this particular model uses a DC barrel power plug, so not readily.

    • curious what's the use case?

      • Portability. Intending on using it for primary school kids homework etc and limited on stationary space in the house and vs laptop, budget and bang for buck, was looking at giving this a crack.

  • +1

They have the N97 with 12gb ram/512gb for $189.99. $10 more than the last deal.

  • How much idle power does it draw?

  • +1

Are the ram and ssd upgradable?

    • -2

      No

      • So they are sealed on the motherboard?

        • No, they are upgradable if you look at the images

  • How do these manage when the power cable is sudden pulled out.

I'm looking at getting a new PC, and it's either a laptop or one if these. The benefit of a laptop is I can switch which one is plugged into my dock with minimal interruption.

    • +4

How do these manage when the power cable is sudden pulled out.

Same as any other PC - it turns off.

You would have to get a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for it to handle a power outage.

  • that's a great price, the 6950h also comes out well

GMKtec Gaming Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 6950H 32GB DDR5 2TB SSD Windows 11 Pro,
    Dual NIC LAN 2.5G, WiFi 6, USB3.2, USB-C 4.0, BT5.2, DP, HDMI, Dual Fan
    $519.99

    • That one (https://www.amazon.com.au/GMKtec-Gaming-Windows-Pro-USB3-2/d…) WAS the real bargain, but the $240 coupon code has now gone.

Just gotta hope they stuff up again with adding a code to a discounted price.

      • Was that one of those 2am Sunday morning coupon codes someone here mentioned?

        • There was $240 coupon that was there 60 minutes ago. Came down to $519.

        • +2

i've noticed GMKTec will issue a juicy coupon when they lower their prices.

Amzn mini pcs generally change their pricing sunday night/monday morning at midnight.
but then it can take a few minutes for the coupons to roll in.

Sometimes they do lower prices during the day and also provide a coupon there.

My advice is use a tab-refresher plug in on your webbrowser during WFH days to check if it changes.
          And when it does, BUY
but pick as late as delivery as you can in case you have to cancel.

I bought the beelink gti12 at 2330. Then at 00:10 the k8+ and then cancelled the blink.

  • +2

Fyi. I bought a similar gmtek ryzen box and had to return it as the fan noise is really annoying, not loud, just that annoying background whine.

  • The Ryzen 6950H is closer to the usual discount (maybe a bit cheaper) whereas this 6600H deal is more of a genuine discount. Don't think I seen it this cheap before

  • still shows $329 for me

    • Weird. My account now says $110 applied……incognito is says "apply coupon".

      • +1

Once you tick the coupon it should show $329 when you are at checkout

        • Apologies. Yes….when checking out it is there.

  • +2

Has the coupon disappeared for you guys too?

  • +1

I can't see the coupon anymore. Even if I add it to cart

  • How much better is the iGPU on this compared to the other N97 deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/893785

  • coupon code has gone :(

    • Well, they just saved your money for something better!

      • -1

is this that bad? not even worth $300?

        • It’s not worth $300 if you’re only buying because it’s cheap and have FOMO.

          • @PainToad: good to know. was thinking about getting this as a backup when i need to use windows and sell my gaming pc

  • Grabbed one for the wife - laptop dock has been on the fritz and at this price probably better off just having a dedicated stationary rig.

    • +2

      And cancelled.

  • +1

    Order got cancelled..

  • +1

    Cancelled as well

  • +1

    My order is cancelled too.

  • Yep cancelled too. FFS, i converted $150 prezzee gift cards into Amazon cards for this

    • Boy that sucks.

  • +1

Anyone got their order honored? This is a shame because this is the kind of deal you keep an eye out for (the outside the normal yoyo pricing/actual properly discounted deals)

    • +1

Yeah got the 8845HS 2TB shipped

      • +1

Got mine, K8 Plus 8845HS 32GB/2TB delivered today for $683.

        • +1

Such a killer deal IMO, pretty lucky. Mines gonna be a bazzite rig

    • +1

Wonder if anyone got this one in the end for $519. That WAS the bargain.

      AMD Ryzen 9 6950H 32GB/2TB - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DDT2W31Y?smid=A2YXLRWT4USUK6&…

      • I did! ETA Thursday 😁

        • Winner!!!

      • +1

        Mine got delivered yesterday 👍

    • Yeah got the 8845HS 2TB shipped

    • I sort of did.

After having mine cancelled, i complained to Amazon. Got an agent who said if i bought it again, they would refund me the difference in gift cards (as i paid in gift cards). Came today and i have received the partial refund. Happy camper again.

      • What one did you get?

        • The one from this post - Ryzen 5 6600H 16GB DDR5 512GB SSD Windows 11 Pro $329.99

          • @Matt P: Well done. Also good purchase.

  • Price has been jacked to 549 now
